Late at night, the emergency department of Hughes Private Hospital was overflowing with people.
A multi-car pileup had occurred on a nearby road, and the injured were being brought in one after another.
"Hughes!"
Hayes Hughes had just taken off his white coat when the door to his office was thrown open from the outside.
He glanced back, unfazed.
Dr. Spencer from the ER grabbed him. "Thank God you're still here! Don't clock out yet. Let's go, quick!"
Hayes was used to this. He kept pace with the other doctor while asking about the situation.
"A driver on the airport road had a sudden heart attack and lost control of his car. Drove straight off the overpass. All the ambulances have been dispatched."
"I can't believe that new intern. He just had to jinx it by saying tonight would be quiet. Dammit. Well, so much for that. No one's getting any sleep tonight."
"Wait, did you say the airport road?"
Hayes grabbed Dr. Murray, who was in front of him.
