A Mandarin voice with a thick regional accent rang out from ahead.
"Go get him! He dared to hurt one of our guys? I'm gonna skin him alive!"
"The first one to catch him gets a hundred thousand from me!"
As the words faded, Zoe Sawyer clearly heard cheering from the other side.
It was followed by the sounds of running and things being overturned.
Zoe felt a knot of tension in her stomach. They were hunting a police officer!
But hearing the commotion outside, she knew that if she went out now, she'd be walking right into the lion's den.
Zoe could only pray silently, hoping the fleeing officer would run in her direction. That way, she might be able to help.
Soon, a gunshot cracked through the air. Zoe heard a heavy grunt not far away.
It was immediately followed by the sound of a body hitting the ground.
"Boss! I hit him!"
"Nice one. Now go bring him over."
