The Immortal Banyan Tree, standing on the former lands of the Southern Celestial Capital, was like an entire living mountain range.
Its mere existence was enough for its crown to blot out the sun. Its very breath brought constant rain to the land for hundreds of miles around. Its undulating roots and dangling aerial roots resembled rolling hills and wooden pillars that held up the heavens, supporting the great tree's branches while also sustaining the region's ecosystem.
By day, the Divine Wood absorbed all light. But at night, its leaves would begin to shine, and their verdant Spiritual Light would take the sun's place, providing radiance for the many shrubs and plants below. Although no other tall trees grew beneath the Divine Wood, the land still supported a rich ecosystem, all of which it sustained.
But now.
At the very peak of this living mountain range.
From the Divine Wood's crown, which soared even higher than the clouds, the verdant Spiritual Light began to fade.
