Chapter 4 - 4. The First Mission

[Mission "Skyscraper Rescue" issued, please check!]

Leon hadn't even had time to open the system panel in his mind to see the mission details before he was pulled up by a hurrying Clint Barton, who shouted in his ear, "Mission's here, follow me!"

Following the command just now, Clint Barton seemed to have been injected with a dose of adrenaline, instantly becoming excited.

Without giving him much time to think, Leon was dragged by Clint Barton to the equipment room they had visited not long ago.

This was the place where firearms, bulletproof vests, and other combat gear were stored. Besides those, some specialized personal weapons could also be found here.

For example, the recurve bow in Clint Barton's hand and his specialized arrows.

Although Leon was still a bit dazed at encountering an emergency mission on his first day of work.

However, the good habits developed during his year of service in the Rangers allowed him to quickly enter a state of combat readiness.

He first put on a standard bulletproof vest over his S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, then took a standard glock 17 pistol from the wall lined with various firearms and holstered it at his thigh. Then, he picked up an iconic M4A1 carbine, pulled the bolt, checked the magazine, and tested the weapon's performance.

At that moment, Clint Barton, standing nearby, had already finished prepping his gear. Leaning against the wall, he began to tease, "I have to say, you're a lucky kid."

Leon was a bit confused, but his hands didn't stop. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Slinging the M4A1 over his shoulder, Leon thought for a moment and reached out to grab two suppressors, putting them into his tactical pockets.

He had a premonition that the upcoming battle would likely break out inside the building. Therefore, the quieter the sound after a kill, the less likely they were to be exposed.

After finishing these preparations, he heard Clint Barton's teasing:

"First day on the job and you get a Level 5 mission, and the most troublesome kind too—hostage-taking... Tsk, tsk, I just wonder if you're ready for your first mission?"

Leon turned around to face Clint Barton, his deep blue eyes filled with firm determination as they met the other man's scrutiny.

"From the moment I received my Agent credentials from Officer Coulson, I've been ready!"

"Good. Then I look forward to your performance!" With that, Clint Barton turned and left.

However, the sharp-eyed Leon still caught the inexplicable smile the man left behind as he turned.

What did that mean?

Before Leon could figure out the meaning of that smile, he and several other Agents on the mission quickly headed to the helipad and boarded a quinjet.

It wasn't until he was buckled into his seat on the jet that Leon had time to check the details of the mission that had just been issued:

[Mission Name: Skyscraper Rescue]

[Mission Content: Rescue the hostages, eliminate all enemies]

[Mission Status: Pending]

[Mission Reward: 2000 Experience]

The mission content wasn't complicated; it was very simple.

Based on the various missions Leon had taken over the past few years, this was undoubtedly a suddenly triggered side quest.

The characteristic of side quests was that they appeared anytime and anywhere, offering generous experience. However, there was usually a hidden requirement: the mission time was very short!

In other words, if this mission couldn't be completed quickly, it would fail, and the 2,000 experience points would vanish... Leon wasn't worried that his first mission would end in failure.

After all, the one leading the team this time was Hawkeye, Clint Barton, who stood at the peak of human physical limits!

Not to mention Terrorists, even against superpowered individuals or super soldiers, Hawkeye could hold his own.

What he was more concerned about was whether he could gain any benefits from this mission.

Benefits beyond experience... He had heard that the one targeted in this hostage situation was the famous technology conglomerate, the Osborn Group.

While he was making his own calculations, the jet's thrusters emitted blue flames, and the quinjet gradually took flight.

A medium-sized skylight slowly opened at the top of the helipad, allowing the jet to leave The Hub.

Through the jet's window, Leon once again saw the location of The Hub: a range of mountains!

Since the location was confidential, Leon wasn't sure exactly where The Hub, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters, was located.

However, as the jet flew southeast and reached bustling New York in less than half an hour, he roughly guessed The Hub's location.

Perhaps it was in some mountains in the central United States... This sudden mission was Level 5, and S.H.I.E.L.D. had sent a six-man Agent team led by Clint Barton, codenamed "Hawkeye."

During the flight, which was neither long nor short, Leon and his teammates exchanged names.

Leon was surprised to find that in this team, besides Hawkeye being a Level 6 Agent, his own level was the lowest.

The other four were all Level 5.

This made Leon feel a bit depressed.

Well, he was the rookie after all... On the plane, as the team Captain for this mission, Clint Barton gave a briefing to his subordinates via the headset communicator.

According to intelligence sent back from the local Police, FBI, CIA, and other agencies, this mission was not simple.

The enemies were a group of masked Terrorists who had suddenly appeared.

Well-trained and heavily armed, they had attacked the Osborn Tower—one of the buildings with the best security levels in New York—in a short period. Furthermore, they had locked down the entire building by taking control of its internal surveillance system.

And inside the building, there were over a thousand Osborn Group employees!

Even the top executives of the group, led by the Chairman and CEO of the Osborn Group, Norman Osborn, were trapped inside and unable to escape.

Such a dire situation left the local Police, FBI, and other departments feeling tied down.

Finally, they had to send a request for support to the elites of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, hoping these Agents with special skills would have a way to break the deadlock.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh... As the jet circled the building in mid-air, Lyon's team of SHIELD Agents got a more direct look at the situation they were about to face.

Looking down at the ground from the air, one could see that the towering, high-tech Osborn Tower was already surrounded by Police and SWAT teams in layer upon layer.

Not only that, snipers had been stationed on the rooftops of several surrounding buildings, seemingly waiting to shoot the moment an enemy showed their head.

When Hawkeye led Leon and the others to fast-rope onto one of the rooftops, they received further intelligence reports from the scene.

Pressing the communication button on his headset, Clint Barton, with his bow and arrows on his back, looked at the Osborn Tower right in front of him and felt a bit of a headache:

"Over twenty armed enemies and more than a thousand hostages?"

"This is going to be a bit tricky..."
