Chapter 24 - miles apart , yet unfinished

"Final boarding call for Flight 9W–London."

The announcement echoed through the terminal, loud and final.

Kashvi stood near the gate, Kriday sleeping peacefully against her shoulder.

Krish stood beside her, silent but steady—like he had been for the last five years.

Behind the glass walls, the past remained.

Unspoken words.

Unlived apologies.

The gates began to close.

And just like that—

India was left behind.

London

The plane touched down smoothly, but Kashvi's heart didn't.

London greeted her with cold air and familiar streets.

This city had once been her escape—

now it was her responsibility.

Within days, she was back at work.

Meetings.

Contracts.

Endless files.

Kashvi didn't allow herself to break.

She took charge of her company again, her presence firm, her decisions sharp.

Employees saw a successful woman.

No one saw the quiet nights where she sat by Kriday's bed, watching him sleep, wondering what scars the truth might leave on his future.

Kriday adjusted faster than she expected.

"Mumma, he said one evening, excited.

"I made a new friend today."

Krish smiled at him, genuinely happy.

Slowly, life found a rhythm again.

Krish and Kriday grew closer—not out of obligation, but comfort.

Morning breakfasts, evening walks, bedtime stories.

Not a father.

Not just an uncle.

Just… someone constant.

And for now, that was enough.

India

Back home, Ved stood alone in his room.

No files.

No meetings.

No noise.

Just silence.

For the first time, he didn't run from it.

He stopped drinking.

He started working—but differently.

Not to escape guilt, but to rebuild something meaningful.

Every night, he opened the same folder on his phone.

One picture.

Kriday—laughing at the mall.

Ved didn't try to justify his past anymore.

He didn't blame circumstances.

He accepted the truth:

He had failed as a husband.

And worse—

as a father.

"I'll become worthy," he whispered into the empty room.

"Even if it takes a lifetime."

Two Cities. Two Lives. One Truth.

London moved on.

India healed slowly.

Miles apart, their lives continued—

not together, not yet.

But fate had only paused the story.

Because some bonds don't end with distance.

They wait.
