Chapter 70: Po-ta-to
Pebbles remained seated for a long while after the system message faded, though "seated" hardly described the stillness that had taken over him.
The world around him continued as it always did... the quiet rustle of leaves outside, the faint murmur of distant goblins settling for the night, the uneven breathing of Erst somewhere in front and beneath him, yet none of it seemed to reach him properly. His thoughts had sunk somewhere deeper, somewhere far less forgiving.
The mission sat in his mind like a stone that refused to be moved.

If it was a suggestion, Pebbles would think about it. If it was an opportunity, Pebbles would nod and think about the advantages and disadvantages. It was none of these.
It was a demand.
It was a clear order and while there were lucrative rewards, the punishment was equally worse.
