Kael crept through the silent forest, his heartbeat echoing louder than the rustling leaves. Ever since the king's soldiers had burned his village, he had learned to trust no one — not even the people he once called friends.
Then, as the moonlight touched his hands, shadows began to twist and bend at his will. Kael gasped. Magic… real magic… and it was inside him.
A distant shout pierced the night. Soldiers. He had no time to think. The shadows coiled around his feet, lifting him silently into the air. Kael's journey had just begun.
