Chapter 8 - The Peculiar Members of The Sword and Aura Discipline Circle[1]

Cassian looked at the field from a balcony before joining them. Roland was there and gave the new cadets a hard time.

That was obvious, Roland was one to prioritize strength but that didn't mean he didn't care for the weak. It was quite the opposite, as a kid he was always bullied by his siblings due to him being obese just a year before he started the academy.

But he proved everyone wrong, and became one of the top students of the academy, only second to the current student council president, Luna Ironveil.

Cassian walked down to the area, just that he had his sword in his hand. It was a longsword, black in color with a red guard and a pommel in the shape of a scythe.

Roland saw him coming and stopped the activity for a moment. "Welcome to The Sword and Aura Discipline Circle, Cassian." He said and smiled at him.

Behind him stood Eric along with five other seniors.

"Cassian, we meet again," he said and shook hands with Cassian. "Have you seen my sister anywhere? I saw you two earlier while you were going to The Grand Strategy Hall.

"She's probably trying another club, and I feel like she chose this one as the last she'll visit today." Cassian replied and walked towards a stand with cheap and normal iron swords.

As he walked, the seniors present greeted him with a smile, he was confused about why they were treating him like that. Once again he cursed himself inwardly, subtlety was just a dream of his now.

Why do I keep bumping into bastards who are loudmouths? Ugh, keep it low Cassian…keep it low.

"Now Cassian, I take it that you know how we do this?" Roland questioned as he picked up one of the swords from the stand.

He raised it in front of him and kept his body steady and unmoving, then a golden aura enveloped the sword instantly, it was rather thick and solid instead of being more gaseous or watery.

'So he can already form this much solid aura, that's great. I need to see the progress of others because my transmigration has affected the world in a weird way.' He was lost in thought as he observed Roland.

Roland then took a stance, and swung his sword. A huge arc of aura jumped off of his blade and cut the target in half.

"So, Cassian, you just have to leave a cut on the target with your aura. That's all and we'll welcome you with open arms." He smiled and threw Cassian his sword.

Cassian walked and stood besides Eric and Roland. He took a deep breath and changed from standing to a stance.

From his hands jumped a reddish black aura onto the sword, it felt as though it was thick blood which had covered the sword.

The color made it hard for people to see the thickness and solidness of the aura so he could go for a rather weaker swing but still enough to leave a cut on the target.

Then he swung his sword in a diagonal slash, the red aura jumped from his sword and cut through half of the target.

Just as he put the sword down, two powerful pats came at his back. Both Eric and Roland shook hands with Cassian as he was the first one in the whole day to actually leave a cut, and a pretty deep cut on the target.

"Welcome to The Sword and Aura Discipline Circle, Cadet Cassian Morrigan."

Meanwhile in the Headmaster's office Edmund was now sitting on a chair and took a sip of his coffee.

"Thank you for brewing the coffee, Headmaster. I will now begin." Hawthorne declared.

"The student I was talking about is Cassian Morrigan, the youngest son of Count Morrigan. Initially he was not supposed to join our academy but suddenly he joined."

"And what about it?" The Headmaster asked calmly.

"Initially I believed he was probably an assassin from that city, but my doubts faded away. He is really smart and strong as well."

Hawthorne stopped to catch his breath and to take another sip and then continued. "Now, I know you will not believe me if I didn't give you anything in regards to my praise. First of all he fired a chantless spell at me, albeit only a wind bullet, somehow it was faster and the composition was slightly altered thus it cut my cheek."

The Headmaster chuckled at what Hawthorne said, it had been a long time since they saw anyone other than themselves cast a chantless spell.

"Interesting. This student, Cassian Morrigan, seems interesting. But what about the issue here? If he is a genius then our academy will give him everything and nurture his growth."

Hawthorne put the cup down on the table and sighed, he was making assumptions as nothing was proved but he kept being paranoid about Cassian potentially being someone other than a normal student.

"Well, the thing is that Alista Ironveil was supposed to join the Academy this time but for some reason he did not do so, instead no one has heard from him in months." He paused but no reply came from the Headmaster, meaning he was supposed to continue before they could get to a conclusion.

"While on the other hand Cassian had not planned on joining us but Alista's sudden disappearance aligns perfectly with Cassian's arrival. Maybe I'm just overthinking things, but I wanted you to know about this so that we could take measures against him if he poses any danger to the academy."

The Headmaster chuckled again, this time louder. Somehow this was all funny, Hawthorne was confused but he didn't question.

"Professor Hawthorne." The Headmaster said and rotated the chair, their face now visible.

She had long black hair tied in a ponytail, shining black eyes and a face which was youthful, making her seem too young to be a Headmaster.

"Don't worry about Cassian, he poses no danger as of right now. I'm curious about all that you've told me, on my behalf call the Duke and Count Morrigan to the ball tomorrow."

"Noted, anything else before I take my leave?"

"Ah, yes. Why not recruit him into The Red Ledger? If he is as good as you say, he should be perfect for your rag tag group of misfits." She chuckled as Hawthorne got up and left her room.
