Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: I Don’t Owe You

[Brooklyn Bridge]

This is a suspension bridge between Manhattan Island and Brooklyn. At this moment, traffic flowed endlessly across it.

Inside a Cadillac, an eight or nine year old boy was lying against the window, looking at the brightly lit Manhattan Island in the distance.

Suddenly, the boy saw several streaks of fire shoot out from Manhattan Island like meteors.

He immediately turned around and said to a middle aged woman who was on the phone, "Mommy, look, shooting stars."

His mother put down her phone and made a shushing gesture.

The little boy covered his mouth, then looked out the window again. He saw those streaks of fire fly over the surface of the East River, and then something fell from the sky.

It dropped into the wide river, splashing up several bursts of water that disappeared in an instant.

Right after that, the streaks of fire turned and flew toward the Brooklyn Bridge. As they got closer, the boy saw that they were "people" wearing streamlined silver white armor.

Those "people" flew over the bridge, flames flashing behind them, trails of blue smoke rising.

Then the trails of smoke curved in midair and descended toward the bridge deck.

The next moment, in front of the Cadillac, fireballs exploded one after another on the bridge. One fireball after another blasted the cars driving on the bridge into the air, blowing the bridge apart.

At once, the bridge deck tilted. Cars kept sliding toward the broken end, plunging into the river below.

The Cadillac was no exception.

And similar things happened, in a very short time, on other bridges connecting Manhattan Island to the outside world.

The night was lit up by flames. Bridges were blown apart one after another. People's screams and the groaning of collapsing steel echoed through the sky.

New York welcomed another sleepless night.

After destroying several bridges, the silver armors did not stop for even a moment. They flew toward downtown New York.

———

A short while later, the lenses of a pair of glasses reflected the blazing trails of the armors flying at high speed.

Several fiery trails streaked across the lenses. Jeff, the former Olga Company employee wearing the glasses, smiled as he watched the silver armors crash into a building.

That was Olga Company's product research and development department.

Then Jeff focused his gaze on the glasses again. The image in the lenses no longer showed the R&D building, but instead Arnold's pale face on the stage inside the Empire Building.

Jeff spoke, "Have you thought it through, Arnold? My patience is limited."

"I hope you don't test it."

As he spoke, the image in the lenses shifted to the guests in the hall.

Then, inside the lenses, the Titan armor raised its arm. The muzzle spat fire, firing randomly into the crowd.

Some people screamed. Some cursed. Some cried. It was chaos.

There were also federal officials shouting at Arnold on the stage, demanding that he agree to Jeff's request.

But from beginning to end, Arnold kept a dark expression, teeth clenched, refusing to agree.

Jeff was not in a hurry. By now he could see fireballs constantly exploding inside the R&D building.

A moment later, a large section of the building's upper wall blew apart. Amid flying debris, several silver figures shot out.

The Raptor armors had left the building. Four of them were jointly carrying a massive object, like a bank vault.

Another one carried a three meter tall metal case.

The four silver armors carrying the vault flew toward Manhattan.

The single armor carrying the metal case landed in front of Jeff.

Then the armor shook its arm, ejecting a silver white short blade.

The blade was extremely sharp, cutting metal like mud. It easily dismantled the metal case.

Inside the case was a pitch black suit of armor, full of a dark style.

This armor was very different from the one Colonel Yuri wore. Though the main color was also black,

The armor in the case looked more like ancient armor. Its plates were sharp edged, heavy in presence.

The most special feature was the black cape on its back.

But the cape was not made of cloth. It was made of a special metal. It looked soft and light, but when needed, it could become as hard as alloy.

It could be used for cutting, or as a shield.

"Black Overlord…"

Jeff smiled, "This can be the ultimate weapon against Homelander."

"Although many of its parameters are still theoretical and haven't been tested in real combat, this is already the most powerful artificial intelligence armor available, aside from Zero, which cannot be used."

Jeff stepped forward, opened a hidden panel on the armor, and entered a string of commands into a concealed small computer inside.

———

[Manhattan District, Empire Building]

On the stage, Colonel Yuri's Titan armor suddenly went still.

Seeing this, a young man in his early thirties stepped forward and looked up at Alex floating above the stage.

"Hey, Homelander."

"Why don't you take him down and get us out of here?"

Alex gave a soft laugh, not even looking at the man below.

"If I remember correctly, Colonel Yuri has publicly stated more than once that incidents like tonight no longer require superhero intervention."

"And that they can even protect us."

"So I think you can relax and just wait for Colonel Yuri to save you."

Inside the Titan armor, although Colonel Yuri couldn't transmit his voice outside, he could still hear Alex's words.

At once, the colonel's old face turned red. At that moment, he was grateful for the faceplate covering him. Otherwise, he would have nowhere to hide.

The young man glanced at the blood on the ground and shouted, "I don't care about that!"

"I'm Joel from the Department of Homeland Security. I order you to take us out of here!"

Alex shook his head, "Don't order me, sir. I don't owe you."

"I'm not your father."

The man named Joel flushed red. A beautiful woman came to his side, her eyes red from fear. She grabbed Joel and said, "Didn't you say even Homelander has to listen to your agency?"

"So you were lying to me."

"That's not how it is, darling."

Joel looked around and shouted loudly, "Everyone, don't you think Homelander should rescue us?"

"Isn't that his duty as a superhero?"

"But what is he doing now?"

"He's standing by and doing nothing."

"Isn't that too much?"

"Where is his moral responsibility as a superhero?"

Under his instigation, the guests nodded one after another. Some even shouted loudly,

"Homelander, if you stand by tonight, you don't deserve to be a superhero!"

"Homelander, kill those bastards!"

"Kill them!"
