Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: The Art of Group Beating

The Very Bottom of the Pyramid—

The darkness here seemed to have existed since ancient times, so dense it was almost tangible.

In the pitch black, 'people' wearing black long robes gathered toward the center of the room.

There were eleven Black Robes in total, holding their breath, scattered around the area.

Terrifying red light flickered in their eyes. Infrared vision allowed them to see clearly in the darkness.

From time to time, they exhaled streams of hot vapor, as if a blazing furnace burned inside their bodies.

They waited quietly, waiting for the intruder to arrive.

They did not have to wait long.

Soon, two points of golden light lit up in the darkness above. The next second, golden beams swept across, cutting open the metal grating overhead.

Alex flew out of the passage, smashing into the ground like a small meteor, making the entire room shake.

Alex raised his head. Golden light lit up deep within his pupils, illuminating his eyes like two miniature suns.

Although he did not have infrared vision, by using the light of his 'heat rays' to pierce the darkness, he could still see.

And so he saw the Black Robes around him, some standing, some crouching, completing a full encirclement.

Standing within the encirclement, Alex calmly looked at each Black Robe and even counted them one by one, "One, two, three..."

"Mm, eleven. Plus the one I killed earlier."

"That meets the requirement."

These Black Robes could not actually understand what Alex was saying. The two sides did not share a language. But Alex's casual, unconcerned attitude enraged them.

In their ancient memories, fragments still remained. In those fragments, humans before them should be humble, fearful, terrified.

Not counting them like stray cats and dogs for fun.

A female Black Robe let out a hiss toward Alex. The muscles beneath her robe writhed violently, and with a whoosh, she spat out a mouthful of scorching white breath.

Like a car with the accelerator floored, she suddenly lunged at Alex.

Her speed had already exceeded the limits of what ordinary human dynamic vision could capture. Her entire body almost turned into a faint afterimage, ghostlike in form.

In her vision, Alex's figure rapidly enlarged. She could already see the powerful blood vessels pulsing at his neck.

The Black Robe opened her mouth and bit down fiercely.

Just as she was about to bite solidly, she suddenly felt as if she had bitten into alloy. A sharp ache surged through her teeth.

On the other side, a bald Black Robe's pupils suddenly shrank. From his angle, he could see clearly.

His companion had not actually bitten Alex.

Between her fangs and Alex's neck, there was still a tiny gap.

That gap was probably only wide enough for a single hair, or a sheet of paper.

If not for the Black Robes' astonishing eyesight, an ordinary person would never have noticed it.

Yes, what the female Black Robe bit was not alloy, nor was it Alex's neck, but air.

More precisely, a 'biological force field'.

At that moment, the female Black Robe's teeth suddenly shattered. Panicked, she tried to retreat.

But a fist suddenly burst out from her back. The black robe exploded apart, and on the woman's pale back, Alex's arm emerged, crushing a still beating heart.

"So filthy," Alex frowned. With his other hand pressing against the female Black Robe's face, he pulled his arm out of her body.

On his hand, a faint reddish glow appeared.

That was the natural reaction produced when the 'biological force field' encountered high heat. The temperature inside the Black Robes' bodies was astonishing, their blood like boiling magma.

'This might be the source of their power.'

However, the physical durability of the Black Robes was clearly far too poor, not even as tough as that superhuman 'Ice Princess'. They were agile, strange, fast, and powerful.

Yet they possessed fragile bodies. No matter how you looked at them, they seemed like a species with huge flaws.

Seeing Alex effortlessly kill one of their companions, the other Black Robes all hissed, simultaneously activating the power hidden within their bodies.

Their body temperatures rose at high speed. At this moment, the temperature inside them had already exceeded 1500 degrees.

Such extreme heat would undoubtedly damage their fragile bodies, but they did not collapse because of it. Within them was a peculiar physiological system capable of converting that heat into energy.

As a result, their skin shifted from pale white to a faint amber color.

Their skin became highly translucent. Beneath it, blazing heat seemed to flow like flames, causing wisps of scorching white vapor to rise from their entire bodies.

Alex shrugged, "Trying to bully one with many?"

"Heh! Then I will show you what real bullying with numbers looks like."

As he spoke, a phantom spread out behind him. That phantom quickly gained substance, revealing another Alex.

Self duplication!

Alex used this talent to create a duplicate.

Then Duplicate Number One duplicated again, creating more clones. In the blink of an eye, twenty duplicates appeared around Alex.

Because of the numbers involved, these duplicates only possessed part of Alex's original strength.

But Alex's foundation was there. Even with only part of his power, they were still stronger than these seriously flawed Black Robes.

Alex waved his arm, and the clones rushed out, forming pairs, each pair targeting a single Black Robe.

A Black Robe could not even beat one clone, let alone two.

Immediately, although the Black Robes used special methods to boil their blood in exchange for a short term boost in combat power, they could only barely protect themselves and were completely unable to kill a single clone.

In the dark space, figures darted back and forth, light crisscrossing everywhere.

Alex stood within this ever changing interplay of light and shadow, calmly observing his surroundings.

The first thing he noticed was a gray stone coffin. Egyptian figures were carved on it, surrounded by ancient Egyptian script.

Because zinc had been mixed into the material, Alex was unable to scan its interior.

But it was certain that this should be the coffin of the 'Undying Empire' elder, Brox.

At this moment, one Black Robe was caught by a clone while reforming after turning to mist. The clone's eyes lit up, and two golden beams instantly blasted into the Black Robe's chest.

The Black Robe screamed, barely managing to block the weakened 'heat rays' with both hands.

But then another clone's eyes also lit up, releasing golden beams toward the Black Robe's back.

Attacked from front and back, the Black Robe finally let out a scream and was swallowed by the raging flames released by the heat ray explosion.

As soon as this Black Robe died, the two clones split apart and moved separately to assist other clones.

With this, the balance between the Black Robes and the clones was broken. Like a domino effect, one Black Robe after another was rapidly killed.

When only one Black Robe remained, the creature seemed to finally feel fear. With a sharp scream, its body turned into mist and fled at high speed.

Twenty Homelander clones chased after it. When the Black Robe revealed its form, dozens of golden beams shot in from all directions.

The beams crisscrossed through the air, slicing across the Black Robe. Its body stiffened, then shattered into more than a hundred fragments.
