Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Leave the Rest to Me

Dust and smoke billowed.

The officers and soldiers who had just been slammed to the ground crawled back up, covered in dirt, and then saw a figure walk out of the smoke.

Golden hair slicked back, sharp and angular facial features, a warm, sunny smile at the corner of his mouth, dressed in an azure battle suit. Although he lacked the Stars and Stripes cape, people still recognized who he was.

"Homelander."

"Why is he here?"

"This is bad."

The soldiers whispered among themselves, showing no excitement at all.

Their words reached Alex's ears, and their expressions did not escape his eyes.

Alex found it strange and casually stopped an officer to ask, "Who is the highest-ranking person in charge of this camp?"

The officer pointed at a tent, "Colonel Yuri, sir."

With his answer, Alex did not say anything else. His feet left the ground and, with a whoosh, he flew straight into that tent.

———

The man in charge of the last international airport hijacking incident, Colonel Yuri, had likewise been assigned to handle the Sylvester Town incident this time. He was staring at a screen when he suddenly heard the sound of wind.

Then Homelander arrived in person, and his eyebrows almost tied themselves into a knot.

During the last airport incident, he had already experienced Homelander's complete disregard for others.

Seeing this superhuman again gave Colonel Yuri a massive headache.

"Hello, Colonel," Alex got straight to the point, "You should not be here."

"I suggest you evacuate immediately. This place will soon become a battlefield."

Colonel Yuri put his hands on his hips and said with some authority, "That is exactly what I wanted to say to you, Homelander."

"I do not know how you found out that something was wrong in Sylvester Town, but unfortunately, this time we cannot let your Seven get involved."

Alex gave him a questioning look.

Colonel Yuri gestured, "Come with me."

He led Alex to a screen, picked up a remote, and pressed a button. An image appeared on the screen.

It was clear that the footage showed some kind of basement. The lighting was dim, but many people could be seen lying on the ground.

Those people were curled up, breathing rapidly. When the camera moved closer, Alex saw that their skin was pitch-black, their hair had fallen out, their veins bulged. They had undergone some kind of mutation.

A word flashed through his mind.

'Night Servants?'

Then a ridiculous, comical face appeared on the screen.

More precisely, a clown.

["People of the Department of Homeland Security, by the time you receive this video, more than two thousand residents of Sylvester Town are already in our hands."]

["Oh, did I introduce myself? I didn't, I guess."]

["My name is… never mind. You can just call me 'the Clown.'"]

["Midnight Clown."]

The clown on the screen made an exaggerated expression, stuck out his tongue, and let out a 'wah' at the camera.

Then he stepped back a couple of steps and took out a dagger, peeling an apple.

["Right now, over two thousand residents of Sylvester Town are suffering immense pain."]

["They have been poisoned."]

["A very powerful and terrifying virus. This virus will make them irritable, highly aggressive, and extremely bloodthirsty."]

["You would not want them to be released. You would not want to see them wandering around other cities or towns."]

["For now, we are temporarily controlling the situation."]

After finishing peeling the apple, the clown took a crunching bite, then pointed at the camera, ["Originally, it did not have to come to this."]

["But again and again, you ignored our demands, and you let that damn Homelander of yours kill two of our important companions."]

["That made me very angry, you know?"]

["So now it is time for you to bear the consequences."]

The clown spat out the apple core and showed a sinister smile, ["Now, not only do we demand the release of two of our companions currently serving sentences in Lux Island Prison."]

["We also want you to designate a region for our use and recognize our right to autonomous governance."]

["If you do not give us an answer within 24 hours, look at those poor people behind me. They will become killers, and all of this will be caused by you with your own hands!"]

The clown raised another finger, ["Oh, and one more thing. If you notify that damned murderer who flies around in the sky. Then no matter the outcome, the negotiations will immediately collapse."]

["I will instantly release these cute little puppies."]

["On the other hand, if you agree to our demands, I will provide the antidote and let these pitiful souls return to normal."]

["Whether these 2,174 people can continue to live as normal human beings lies entirely in your hands, gentlemen."]

["Think carefully, but do not take too long."]

The video ended there.

Colonel Yuri turned around, "That is why you cannot be here, sir. I must ask you to leave."

Alex smiled slightly, "Believe me, they already have no future left."

"I mean those residents. True mercy is helping them find release, not letting them become bargaining chips for extremists."

"So from here on out, leave it to me. You can either evacuate, or surround the town and make sure those black things cannot get out."

At that moment, the sound of helicopters landing came from outside the camp. Shortly after, a soldier jogged in to report.

"Reporting, sir. The other members of the Seven have arrived."

Colonel Yuri's temples throbbed as he shouted, "Homelander, this involves the lives of two thousand people. You cannot just take over like this."

"This is an operation under the Department of Homeland Security!"

Alex had no intention of arguing with him. He strode toward the tent exit.

At that moment, a young officer stepped in front of Alex, blocking his path.

"That is enough. What do you think this place is?"

"This is the military. A sacred place that cannot be violated!"

"Not a playground for you to play hero games!"

He noticed Colonel Yuri looking over.

The young officer felt a surge of delight inside. He thought this was a good opportunity.

A good chance to show off in front of his superior.

As for Homelander, he was not too worried.

After all, just like he said, the military was here. Surely Homelander would not dare kill him, right? If that happened, Vought would be waiting for bankruptcy.

So he became even more aggressive, even poking Homelander in the chest with his finger as he shouted.

"And from the very beginning, I never trusted you so-called superheroes."

"You lack oversight, you are arrogant and reckless, especially you, Homelander!"

"If you did not have superpowers, what would you be? Maybe just a farmer, or some bottom-level employee busting his ass at a company and still despised by his boss!"

"Without superpowers, you are nothing!"

"So what right do you have to point fingers here?"

The young officer pointed at the door, "Now I want you to get out, take your superpowered friends with you, and get the hell out—"

Before he could finish, Alex had already grabbed him and tossed him upward.

The officer screamed as he smashed through the tent, flew into the air, and disappeared into the distance.

Looking up at the blue sky and white clouds overhead, Colonel Yuri stood there dumbfounded, unable to believe Homelander had actually done this.

"You…"

"Do you know what you just did?"

Alex spread his hands, "What did I do?"

"I just helped you get rid of a rude kid."

"May God bless him. That's why I sent him to God."

Alex made an utterly insincere sign of the cross on his chest, then flew up into the sky, heading toward Sylvester Town.

Colonel Yuri shook his head, "He is crazy! Absolutely crazy!"
