Chapter 92 - PoR Ch. 90

Arata's throwing knife struck true, the grand fairy had her claymore stuck inside her shoulder with a precise throw. Rachamah's training proved fruitful yet again.

"Arata! We can't just let go of the other soldiers- what about the rest of the teams!" Chive shouts in panic

The grand fairy was in a position to sacrifice herself. By holding off Arata, the rest of the fairy knights would do far too much damage to the rest of the strategy, they had lost.

Just then, as the grand fairy recoils in pain, fairy knights rush out, forming a meat shield in case of follow-up attacks.

"Chive, the grand fairy is supposed to lead the fairies right? That is the other option but I bet everything on the fact she'd choose to save her own skin."

"The Erkling's corruption turns you into the antithesis of you. A good leader doesn't use others as a means to their personal end. She probably only takes orders from the Erkling due to fear but selfishness is what defines her character and strategy."

Even just to catch Arata off guard, she sacrificed ten of her men. It was ego under the guise of strategy, the men didn't attack because they could steal her credit for killing Arata.

Arata had played the fairy knights for fools. Despite all that, Chive's reaction isn't shocked at the plan nor excited to have a fighting chance. There is no vigor to win, there is no despair in the difficulty of their situation.

Her expression was that of mourning, a face in which eons spent at the eternal tea, despite the necessity for fairies to forget to remain sane. Chive had only truly then felt like she forgot the face before her.

"I was right, we are doing the fairies who made these things a favor by killing them."

Her next words are uttered through sobs, she chokes back her tears, "That thing is no longer mom… Arata, the gas I have left in the tank, it just might be enough to put her to rest."

The beast recovers, although one of its swords was stuck. It merely ripped it off, bare red underneath the point from which the great sword was torn.

It stumbled through its own men, swinging with wild abandon, some were knocked to the side, crushed under its stomps.

Arata's back was turned to the beast at the very time, huddling with a sobbing Chive, illustrating to him the final plan.

To the back of Arata's head, the great sword was swung, one fell swoop to kill him instantly.

The mirage born from fog dissipates, hanging above from the second blade of Bloody Mary, Arata jumps down, Cauterizer slicing its way into the open wound, making its way down and through the former grand fairy's chest.

Despite everything, in its final moments, it was shaking weakly. Fairies weren't fighters, they hated pain.

Muttering came through metal-infused windpipes: "dau er" was the final sound it made.

Chive flies down, caressing away a tear from the creature's cheek.

Suddenly, the mist shrouds the alleyway, expanding it systematically into every pore of the city.

Act XX

X Int. The cradle of Elves

The council meets to discuss the Mad King of Spades, sparking a clash in interests between Grand Fairy Charophllya (Female ???) and elven scholar Johann (Male 200)

Johann

You're all cowards! You don't get it! You're fighting for the cycle of gratitude and for what?!

Many of the elves whisper among each other and so do the fairies. The prudent nature of Johann highlights a lack of purpose in argument.

Johann (Cont)

Nature gave us this gift to be used. We've already paid our thanks in blood! Life does not exist to revere its creator. Expansion will continue, you cannot build houses without cutting down trees, you cannot eat without hunting creatures and we cannot preserve history in the face of annihilation.

Charophllya

Don't be selfish boy. It's more complicated, this isn't just about our history. Our future can only exist within this forest. The outside world has grown too harsh, neither humans nor demons take refugees. The extent of our value to the human king exists as a wall.

Various elven and fairy representatives murmur to each other at Johann's outburst. Some share rumors that he has been corrupted.

Johann

You say all that but you haven't seen what I have. Who here was the representative sent to negotiate our survival? Me! Opposing that man is hopeless, reality has to heed his command. He has created a new constant of this world which bends around his thumb!

Charophllya

If your thesis exists using the premise that the Mad King is supreme, why does he build armies? Why has he yet to conquer this world? What could hold him back thus far?

Johann

That- that is because.

The elven scholar clenches his fist, stuttering to come up with a further response.

Johann (Cont)

You bitch… That conceited stance? Do you care not for the preservation of our kinds? Ha. Hahahaha! Let me tell you something, he didn't just give me one answer yet he has given you only one out.

From his pocket, Johann takes out a Jack of Spades. With the ridges of the card, Johann flays open the skin on his face.

Johann

I kneel to thee, o' wise one. My noble king, avatar of the Deicida. Let us break it all my king, this never-waking world!

X Ext. The garden gate

Chive visits to find her mother as she cannot sleep due to a nightmare.

Chive

Mom! What happened to back by dinner? I thought the meeting was 2 hour-

The Child is stopped in her tracks, her psyche now shattered. Johann emerges from the meeting. Walking behind him, Charophylla, whose face is shrouded by its mutilation.

Johann

Sweet Chive, please return home to bed.

Chive

Yes.

The Johann waves goodbye to the little girl, donning his new plastic expression of joy.
