BWDC:SDDK Chapter 114: The Final Contingency Plan
Phantom Thief Kid saw it with his own eyes.
That flying Batarang tore through the non-existent spider silk. Consequently, his mind told him he could move, and in the next instant, the Phantom Thief truly regained his mobility.
Kuroba Kaito's body jerked back in a leap, dodging the attack.
The illusionist, who had previously appeared as a giant eight-eyed spider, finally revealed his true form. He wore a rotating three-eyed red-light night vision device and a black suit. He turned his head in shock toward the other side, looking at Ren Ichimonji—or rather, Batman.
The sharp knife in Spider's hand had been knocked away by the Batarang.
As a world-class assassin, Spider had killed people. Many people. By utilizing illusions, he could easily plunge others into terror, whether it was driving them to suicide, making them kill one another, or rendering his targets immobile so he could enjoy the victor's right to kill them one by one. He relished the pleasure of watching targets sink into inescapable fear, knowing they were in an illusion yet unable to act, left with nothing but to wait for death.
However, in this moment, Spider was stunned.
No one had ever cracked his illusions without external aid. How could this lunatic dressed like Batman reach such a level?
—No, it's impossible.
This man must have a device installed on him that releases electric currents to stimulate his body, hidden beneath that ridiculous costume so that it couldn't be seen or countered!
But it would end here.
Just as Kuroba Kaito landed, everything before his eyes changed once again. Countless spider webs coiled around his body, rendering him immobile. This time, it was even more intense than before.
Yet, Ren Ichimonji seemed entirely unaffected. He sprinted across the ground, charging rapidly toward Spider.
—He didn't have much time.
The moment he used the taser to break free from the illusion, Ren noticed Kuroba Kaito was about to be killed by Spider. Without hesitation, he threw the Batarang to stop him. However, in that brief interval, the illusion struck again.
But a moment before the world turned upside down, he had already pressed the switch in his palm.
Activated.
The electrical stimulation network built into the Batsuit by Professor Agasa.
The Professor had warned that this method would place an immense burden on the user, though it would significantly enhance physical attributes. But Ren needed more than just a stat boost.
Ren needed the pain brought by the current flowing through his body.
He couldn't take off the outer mask. From just a single attempt, he realized the illusionist was attacking from three sensory fronts simultaneously. The moment he lifted the mask, even in an electrified state, he felt the premonitions of the hallucination.
He couldn't use Batman's coffee cup this time. Ren Ichimonji could only rely on himself!
"What? So fast?"
A flash of shock crossed Spider's eyes. The speed Ren was displaying now far exceeded his expectations. Even among the other top-tier code-named members within the Secret Organization, the physical prowess shown was only at the level Ren was currently exhibiting.
He was not skilled in close-quarters combat.
The Dark Knight's figure closed in. A heavy punch swung toward Spider instantly, but Spider's figure suddenly took flight as if mocking a hero who couldn't fly.
However, in the next second, Ren whipped a high-frequency sonic transmitter from his utility belt. The transmitter stuck to the floor instantly, emitting high-frequency sound waves. The sound of shattering glass echoed everywhere, including the glass panels above Ren and Spider!
Crackle, crackle, crackle!
Spider looked up at the ceiling glass in shock. Under the impact of the invisible sonic waves, the glass shattered violently. The levitation illusion he had performed using pre-set steel wires was instantly broken, and he went plummeting toward the ground.
Suddenly, a fierce light flashed in his eyes. His body floated again without any visible support. On the other side, Kuroba Kaito felt the spider silk on his body begin to loosen; he realized Spider's weakness.
By using pre-arranged props combined with his supernatural abilities, Spider could plunge thousands of people in the Tokyo Budokan into an illusion. But to maintain the hypnosis when only his own power was effective, he had to exert far more energy than usual.
Once Spider's focus concentrated on one person, the effect on the other would wane—he couldn't maintain both!
Ren suddenly drew his Grapple Gun from behind him with a zip, snaring Spider's leg just as he prepared to counter-attack, dragging him out of the air by brute force.
Skills derived from Basic Combat Mastery allowed him to approach Spider using the most efficient movements. The physical boost from the electrical stimulation gave him the foundation to do so.
Slamming hard onto the ground, Spider felt a surge of pain. His expression changed drastically. Since his illusions had reached this level, few people had been able to inflict such intense pain upon him. Looking at the figure pouncing toward him like a literal giant bat, a long-forgotten emotion welled up in his heart.
In that instant, Spider pulled a handgun from his coat. He aimed at Ren and fired repeatedly.
However, Ren simply held his cape in front of him, not slowing down. He pushed through the impact of the bullets and lunged forward, throwing a heavy punch toward Spider's face.
In the next moment, Ren's body froze in place.
Spider was afraid. In this moment, ignoring the threat of Phantom Thief Kid, he concentrated all his illusory power on Ren, forcing him into a hallucinatory state to halt his attack.
But a second later, a Card Gun rapidly fired dozens of playing cards, streaking toward Spider.
Kuroba Kaito had made his move. He didn't believe Spider's energy was infinite. No matter how long he could maintain the illusion, he couldn't keep it at peak levels forever. As long as they attacked in turns, Spider would eventually show a weakness.
"Don't think it ends like this..."
"What exactly happened at the theater back then? Who are you people? I want you to tell me everything, word for word!"
The illusion struck once more. Even the electrical stimulation was beginning to lose its effectiveness.
Ren Ichimonji sighed. He realized the situation had reached the most dangerous point he had anticipated. At this stage, he had to activate the final contingency plan.
—He had reserved 500 points. These 500 points were Ren's final trump card.
Ignoring the various grotesque versions of Batman charging at him, a system screen appeared before Ren's eyes.
In the next instant, the options in the System Store lit up. The 500 points dropped to zero instantly.
The final resort was activated!
