BWDC:SDDK Chapter 48: As Everyone Knows, Gin Has No Credit!

Fusae Campbell Kinoshita.

The first love of Professor Agasa and the president of the Fusae fashion brand.

Investigating the circumstances of such an international designer would typically be quite a hassle. However, for Ren Ichimonji, no matter how troublesome it seemed, it didn't really count as a problem.

"I sent an email to someone at the Fusae company and made an appointment for Professor Agasa to meet her," Ren Ichimonji said, snapping his fingers with a relaxed tone. "Though I don't understand much about these matters, after all these years, it's better to talk to her close associates about her recent situation first to avoid stepping on any landmines."

The person he contacted was, naturally, Billy—the man who accompanied Fusae to the ginkgo tree in the original TV plot. In the original story, Billy was very supportive of the relationship between Agasa and Fusae. This time would likely be no different; he would serve as a perfect wingman for their reunion.

"I see..." Conan rubbed his chin with his finger, suspended in mid-air. "So that 'Kinoshita' was actually Fusae Campbell Kinoshita?"

Ten years ago, he and Ran had met this international designer near Teitan Elementary School. Back then, she wasn't nearly as famous as she is now. If he had known she was the first love Agasa kept talking about, he would have told him sooner.

Suddenly, Conan snapped back to reality and asked, "Wait, how did you get in touch with the president's inner circle? Those numbers aren't public, right? What did you do?"

Damn, I hate sharp kids like you, Ren thought. He let go, allowing Conan to drop to the floor.

"Let's talk about serious business," Ren said, his voice becoming solemn.

Conan, sitting on the floor after his fall, looked up confused. Are you just changing the subject? You devious old bat, I ought to...

"I found Sherry's sister, Akemi Miyano."

Ren's words instantly diverted Conan's attention. He sprang up, his expression turning serious. When it came to the Black Organization, Conan's moral boundaries were relatively flexible. Dealing with a criminal syndicate using the same restraint one would use for a common thief was absurd.

This was why Conan didn't complain about Akai Shuichi using a corpse as a decoy during the "Clash of Red and Black"—desecrating a body is illegal, but some things are more important than the letter of the law.

Conan couldn't say for sure what Ren's information channels were. Except for this morning, Ren had been in the same place as him, so he shouldn't have had time to investigate. But since he was investigating members of the Black Organization, that was another matter entirely.

"You mentioned before that Miss Masami Hirota is working at a bank and might be planning a robbery," Conan recalled, putting his hands in his pockets. "Since you're telling me this now, I assume you've found the specific bank?"

Ren lowered his voice. "I need you to plant a tracker on Akemi Miyano or her car. If I remember correctly, she and Sherry meet every so often. With a tracker, we can determine their meeting location. Conan, you don't want to miss out on the APTX-4869 antidote, do you?"

Conan stared. Even though your name says you're not local, you really talk like a local internet troll.

Despite the delivery, Conan accepted the suggestion without hesitation. "Fine. Tell me the location; I'll head there tomorrow."

Last time he met Masami Hirota, he had stuck a tracker on her watch, which allowed him to save her at the last second. Doing it again caused him no psychological burden. It was a "necessary evil" for a Great Detective.

However, Conan finally asked the question that had been bugging him: "You said she's working there to rob it. But based on my last contact with her, she doesn't seem like a greedy person. Why would she rob a bank over and over? Is it a hobby, or is there a reason she has to?"

Conan had never seen a criminal go for a "double feature" on a bank robbery. If there wasn't some irresistible force involved, he wouldn't believe it.

Ren didn't intend to hide it. "Akemi Miyano's goal is to take her sister, Sherry, and leave the Organization. The member she's dealing with demanded ten billion yen in exchange—a member you know well. His codename is Gin."

Gin?

At the mention of that name, Conan's expression shifted. The image of the black coat and long silver hair surfaced in his mind.

Conan had learned that codename on a train. Gin and Vodka had been trading with someone and mentioned their names. What left the deepest impression of Gin's ruthlessness was that he didn't just take the trade; he gave the trader a suitcase rigged with a timer bomb. If Conan hadn't reacted in time, the entire train car would have been wiped out.

There was no doubt: Gin was a man without a shred of morality. He never kept his word; he had no credit.

If Akemi Miyano actually believed a promise from such a dangerous man, wasn't she just walking into a fire?

"Akemi Miyano is currently working at the Beika branch of the Yotsubishi Bank," Ren said, snapping Conan out of his thoughts. "When the time comes, put two trackers on her car."

Conan looked up, puzzled. "Why two?"

"Better safe than sorry," Ren replied.

If necessary, Ren would go and plant a third one himself. But there was no need to tell Conan that. Always keep a card up your sleeve to prevent being screwed over.
