BWDC:SDDK Chapter 5: I'm Batman!

Ren Ichimonji looked down at the hang glider in his hands, which was now folded and mangled by nearly half, then looked up at Phantom Thief Kid appearing at the top of the stairs.

A feeling of "What the hell are you doing here?" spontaneously arose in his mind.

Seriously, brother? Shinichi Kudo, you had the advantage and the head start—how could you not handle your own little cousin? What does this mean? Am I supposed to fight Phantom Thief Kid? I'm not Makoto Kyogoku; can I even win?

"Excuse me, sir, what are you doing to my hang glider?"

Phantom Thief Kid remained silent for a moment before finally speaking up. As he questioned him, he began walking toward Ren Ichimonji.

Seeing this, Ren Ichimonji sighed. He released the corner of the hang glider and picked up the coffee cup he had set aside. He began walking toward Phantom Thief Kid as well.

"Instead of choosing to run away, you're choosing to approach me?" Kid whispered.

He had never seen such an arrogant thief. Even when he stole things himself, he wouldn't dare show his face in front of the owner without a disguise. Where did this guy get his confidence?

---Wait, have I seen that coffee cup somewhere before?

Kaito Kuroba's gaze fell upon the conspicuous white cup. He remembered now—this was the mysterious "Coffee Man" in the banquet hall who had seen through the contents of his heist notice before he even sent it out. He thought the man had left after speaking, but...

It turns out he came to the roof to steal his hang glider!

"Of course. If I don't get close... how can I make you return the Black Star?" Ren Ichimonji replied, his voice equally low.

His task still didn't show 100% completion, which meant something had gone wrong with the latter half. As long as the system viewed the "Riddler" Phantom Thief Kid's plan as not having failed, and the Black Star hadn't been returned, the mission wasn't over.

Though he wasn't sure why the situation had deviated like this, at this point, his only option was to take matters into his own hands.

"Phantom Thief Kid, the moment you appeared before me, you had already lost!"

As Ren Ichimonji spoke, he noticed the distance was just right. He immediately drained the rest of his coffee.

Simultaneously, Kaito Kuroba also felt the distance was perfect. With a flick of his wrist, several flash-smoke grenades slid into his fingertips and were hurled forward. He shut his eyes and performed a phased dash through the smoke toward his hang glider!

---Didn't see that coming, did you? This is my escape plan!

As everyone knows, Phantom Thief Kid is a lover, not a fighter. Fighting is impossible—it's not happening in this lifetime. He usually just steals things to maintain his presence; he never engages in illegal activities like brawling.

Besides, his hand-to-hand combat skills were quite pathetic. Since the opponent didn't have a gun and was only holding a coffee cup, it didn't feel right to use the Card Gun. Running away was the most cost-effective move; otherwise, he'd be in trouble when that "Superpowered Soccer Boy" caught up!

However, as he dove into the smoke, Kid suddenly felt a sense of unease. His sixth sense told him that something terrifying was right beside him.

But on the top deck of the Queen Selisabeth, there was no one else besides him and the mysterious Coffee Man. How could someone terrifying appear? It couldn't be... that the Coffee Man was actually some hidden master?

Kaito Kuroba instinctively stopped in his tracks. He realized something was wrong, and a chill ran down his spine.

As a world-class magician and thief, identifying positions by sound was second nature. Just now in the smoke, he could only hear his own footsteps. He hadn't heard the footsteps of the mysterious man at all—no, it wasn't just the footsteps; he hadn't heard any sound!

Where did the man go?

"This is your last chance."

A deep, raspy voice echoed behind Phantom Thief Kid. His neck went stiff as he slowly turned around.

He saw a figure standing there, obscured by the smoke. Only a pair of eyes were visible, carrying an inexplicable pressure that struck fear into the heart.

"What?"

Kid instinctively took a step back. He didn't understand how a person's aura could transform into someone else entirely in just a few seconds. But he could vaguely sense that he was in big trouble.

The smoke from the grenades gradually thinned and finally dissipated under the moonlight. The figure stood with his back to the moon, facing him. His face and front were shrouded in darkness, as if the night itself had draped a cape over him. Even without the classic black bat emblem on his chest, one couldn't help but marvel.

It was as if Batman had stepped out of the comics and into reality!

In fact, that was exactly what had happened.

"It seems you've made your decision."

Ren Ichimonji's eyes narrowed, projecting a look of disapproval. In the next moment, he spoke:

"Against you, I don't even need five seconds."

---To claim one doesn't even need five seconds against a world-class phantom thief was undoubtedly arrogant.

If any great detective in the world said this, it would seem boastful—even if it were the highly esteemed Sherlock Holmes. But when Batman said it, it felt like a matter of course.

There might be a debate over who the world's most famous or brilliant detective is. But if you were to ask who the world's most capable fighter among detectives is—

Without a doubt, only Batman earns that honor.

Indomitable will, honed techniques, and unparalleled experience. The terrifying Dark Knight of Gotham stood before Phantom Thief Kid. Even the Kid was intimidated.

Kaito didn't have time to overthink. His resilience as a top magician forced him to reflexively evade. With his reaction speed, he wouldn't normally be defeated instantly, even when facing a grandmaster like Makoto Kyogoku.

But he wasn't facing Makoto Kyogoku. He was facing Batman.

Batman, who had mastered 127 different martial arts from around the world.

To him, the human body held no secrets. Every movement of the Phantom Thief seemed to broadcast his next move, allowing Batman to anticipate him and place his fist exactly where Kid was about to be.

Thud—!

The Phantom Thief's figure was sent flying backward. The Card Gun he always kept in his breast pocket saved him, blocking the heavy punch. But even though it blocked the direct hit, the residual force made his expression turn bitter.

Tossing the Black Star in a different direction before he fell toward the sea, he asked, "Who are you?"

Ren Ichimonji appeared perfectly in front of the Black Star's trajectory and caught the precious gem.

By reflex, he replied:

"I'm Batman!"
