Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Old Bastard Drops Loot

"Wind of Light!"

As Ryuu's final shout fell, her magic power erupted. Countless emerald-green orbs of light appeared high in the sky, illuminating the entire night as bright as day.

Boom! Boom! Boom!!

Wrapped in raging winds, the light orbs fell like a torrential downpour, relentlessly bombarding the Bodhisattva ice statue. Deafening explosions rang out one after another, the blazing flashes dazzling to the eye.

Douma's figure was swallowed by the explosions.

Boom!!

When the violent blast subsided, a massive crater remained where it had struck. Douma and the ice statue were already gone without a trace.

Roy smacked his lips. That was brutal!

Wind of Light—a dual-attribute magic of light and wind. It creates a large number of light orbs that attack the enemy while carried by gale-force winds. An ultra-wide-area attack with terrifying destructive power.

Roy's eyesight was sharp. Most of the light orbs struck the Bodhisattva ice statue. Douma himself was hit by only a single orb—yet a demon's body, once exposed to something like sunlight, was reduced to ashes. He didn't even have time to scream.

[Successfully hunted Upper Rank Two · Douma. Congratulations, you have obtained "Mystic Ice Blade"!]

[Congratulations on completing the instance quest. You have obtained 600 attribute points and a Bronze Treasure Chest!]

Roy's eyes lit up. Monsters really do drop equipment—and combined with the quest rewards, this felt pretty damn good!

Name: Mystic Ice Blade

Quality: Advanced

Special Effect: This weapon is a magic sword. It has no base attributes, but can cast freezing magic three times.

Roy thought to himself, "Open the treasure chest!"

[Bronze Treasure Chest opened. Congratulations, host, you have obtained: 10 Bottles of Low-Grade Health Potion, Refined Iron Longsword (Low-Grade), Windchaser Boots (Advanced)!]

[Low-Grade Health Potion: After drinking, restores 20% HP over 10 seconds. Multiple uses can extend the duration, but effects do not stack. Remaining: 10 bottles.]

[Refined Iron Longsword (Low-Grade): Forged from repeatedly tempered refined iron. No special effects.]

Name: Windchaser Boots

Quality: Advanced

Attributes: Increases speed by 10%.

Special Effect (Treading the Wind): Increases agility by 30% for 10 seconds. Each activation reduces equipment durability by 10%.

Durability: 99%

Looking at the long list of panel rewards, Roy's face split into a wide grin. Having a big shot carry you really is amazing.

The attribute points obtained from the system could be freely allocated to his stats. Roy didn't hesitate at all—he waved his hand and dumped everything into Agility!

Agility: 0 (I) → 600 (C)!

The muscles in Roy's legs felt as if they were being nourished by some kind of energy, bursting with powerful strength.

Why did all the major ninja villages in Naruto say that missions could be abandoned upon encountering Minato Namikaze? Because that guy was just too fast—he came and went as he pleased.

Agility was absolutely Roy's top priority. Even if he couldn't win, he'd still have a chance to escape.

It was also worth mentioning that as long as one attribute reached Rank D and he possessed enough "Great Feats," he could level up—and Roy had already met the first condition.

But as long as he had a functioning brain, there was no way he'd level up casually. With a system panel that allowed him to endlessly gain attribute points, of course he'd push his stats to the limit before upgrading.

After leveling up, the original panel would be hidden and a new one would appear—but the old one wouldn't disappear.

All the stacked values from each level-up would ultimately be reflected in his actual strength.

In the original timeline, Ryuu used an enormous amount of "Great Feats" to jump straight from LV.4 to LV.6 in one go. In the short term it looked impressive, but in reality she lost out badly.

She practically skipped all the stats of LV.5.

After reaching LV.6, purely in terms of numerical values, she was in the weakest tier and had to rely entirely on her new magic, Astraea Record, to hold her ground.

After finishing the fight, Ryuu walked over to Roy. Seeing him grinning so hard he couldn't suppress it, she asked, "What are you laughing about?"

"I was just admiring how extraordinary Miss Ryuu's strength is. Even among LV.4 adventurers, you're truly one of a kind," Roy replied smoothly, laying on the flattery.

System items were divided into five tiers: Low-Grade, Advanced, Epic, Legendary, and Divine. Without Ryuu, he'd probably have had to start farming goblins. There was no way he'd be opening with two Advanced items and 600 attribute points.

For such a major contributor, Roy wouldn't mind serving her tea and water.

Ryuu's expression didn't change, but the corner of her mouth lifted slightly. She wouldn't normally care about flattery—but this was different.

With Douma defeated, Butterfly Kanae—who had pushed herself to the brink, her stamina and spirit exhausted and held together only by sheer will—collapsed to the ground, a relieved smile on her face.

Roy sighed regretfully. "Such a beautiful girl—what a waste if she dies. Miss Ryuu, hurry and save her."

The more Ryuu listened, the more something felt off. She shot him a strange look. "What if it were a man lying here instead?"

"Then I could only wish him an early death and a swift reincarnation!"

"Scum."

While they bickered, Ryuu walked over to Butterfly Kanae, knelt down, and began casting healing magic.

"—Song of the distant forest at this moment, melody of past lives. To the one who seeks you, bestow the mercy of healing. Noah Heal!"

Ryuu chanted rapidly, her magic transforming into life force that flowed into the girl's body.

Whoosh!

A layer of emerald-green light surfaced over Butterfly Kanae's body. Her paper-pale complexion regained a hint of color, her breathing steadied, and her long eyelashes fluttered slightly—signs that she was about to awaken.

Noah Heal, Ryuu's second magic—a single-target recovery spell. Roy couldn't help but sigh. He'd really struck gold. Strong in battle, capable of healing, and beautiful to boot—a true all-purpose character.

"Let's go."

After Ryuu finished the treatment, Roy stretched lazily and turned to leave without a second glance.

Ryuu froze for a moment. Roy had specifically asked her to save the girl, so she'd thought he might try to leverage the favor—after all, adventurers who think with their lower bodies were everywhere, and she'd seen plenty of them.

Yet Roy's complete lack of attachment left her oddly confused. Could it be… that he was actually a good person?

[Instance quest completed. Please return within 24 hours. Countdown…]

Roy tapped the panel. A ripple of spatial distortion appeared, and his and Ryuu's bodies gradually vanished.

The two returned to a tent in Orario.

Ryuu clicked her tongue in wonder, her gaze toward Roy growing ever more curious. Could he be some god deliberately hiding his identity to toy with her? Although gods would be sent back to the heavens if they used divine power, they'd lived for billions of years and possessed mysterious, complex methods—she couldn't rule out the possibility.

"Miss Ryuu, let's keep going!"

Roy was brimming with excitement. Killing Douma had taken at most an hour. One hour for 600 attribute points—24 hours meant 14,400 points a day.

At this terrifying pace, even if he wanted to push all his attributes to SSS, he'd soon become a high-level adventurer. Then he'd punch the Loki Familia, kick the Freya Familia—yesterday you ignored me, today you won't be worthy of my notice!

And while he was at it, he'd even make the Black Dragon his pet!

Roy's voice was like a devil's whisper, filled with temptation. "The more monsters we defeat, the sooner we can revive Alise Lovell and the others…"

Ryuu looked at the overexcited Roy with a gloomy gaze, a hint of wariness and fatigue appearing in her eyes.

"But… that's a dangerous thing to say."
