After his and Mukai promotion as Chunin, Shunsui and Mukai walked outside of the Hokage office.
The sun was shining brightly over the village streets. People were going about their daily lives while some shinobi moved quickly on missions.
Shunsui immediately removed the chunin vest from himself. He held it in one hand and looked at it with a slight frown. "The thing was ruining my style." Shunsui muttered these words as he folded the vest neatly.
He preferred his usual clothes and the straw hat that felt more comfortable to him. The official vest felt too stiff and formal for his liking.
"I wonder if I could exchange this vest for maybe a C rank jutsu or even a B rank perhaps. It is brand new after all." Shunsui muttered this idea while thinking out loud.
Mukai sweated a little at the suggestion. He could not believe Shunsui was already thinking about trading away his new rank symbol for something else.
It showed how carefree Shunsui could be even after a big achievement. Mukai shook his head but did not say anything right away. He was still getting used to his new friend's relaxed attitude.
"Well anyways, do you have anywhere to go?" Shunsui asked in a casual tone. He wanted to know if Mukai had plans after the promotion meeting.
Mukai said, "Not really. My family would not probably want to do anything with me after seeing that I have the byakugan and they would happily offer me to the Hyuga. We are still a distant family of the Hyuga after all." Mukai explained his situation honestly.
He felt a bit lonely because his branch of the family might reject him now that his powerful eye was known publicly. The main Hyuga clan was very strict about bloodline matters.
Shunsui said, "I wonder does that make you Hyuga's branch branch family." He chuckled at his own joke before saying, "Anyways you can come with me to the orphanage and then we will go somewhere to hang out. You still owe me a drink." Shunsui invited his friend warmly.
He wanted to spend some time relaxing after the exams. "Wait why am I the one paying?" Mukai asked confused.
He did not understand why he had to buy the drinks. "Because you lost the fight, of course." Shunsui said with a playful smile.
Mukai muttered, "He could have been nice about it."
The two chunin walked together toward the orphanage while talking lightly about the fights and their new ranks.
As they arrived at the orphanage, Mukai suddenly spun with a gentle fist as he hit his attacker that had tried to hit him with a metal kunai to his back.
Ika cried out in pain as he tumbled on the ground. "Wahhhhhhh!" The young boy lay there holding his side where the gentle fist had landed.
Shunsui sighed as he ran towards the boy. "Are you okay... Ika?" He asked with concern in his voice while kneeling down to check on the child.
Ika tried to control his tears even though he was in pain at his tenketsu being blocked. "I... am fine... I am going to become the best assassin there is... such weak attacks can't hurt me." The boy spoke bravely despite the tears in his eyes.
Mukai muttered, "A child?" He was surprised to see such a young kid attempting an attack like that. He had not expected anyone at the orphanage to try something so dangerous.
Shunsui sighed again. "Can you unblock his tenketsu?" He asked Mukai for help. Mukai nodded and gently used gentle fist again to unblock the tenketsu he had blocked. The technique was done carefully so the boy would not feel more pain.
"What was he trying to do?" Mukai asked with curiosity. "Trying to assassinate you this time instead of me." Shunsui said in a matter of fact way.
Ika said, "I saw you losing to big brother Shunsui in the Chunin Exams.... I thought you would be weaker than him and since I never seem to assassinate big brother, I thought I would be able to assassinate you."
The boy gave his reasoning honestly while still sitting on the ground. Mukai looked at Shunsui to ask if the kid was serious. His eyes showed disbelief at the whole situation.
Shunsui said, "Your reasoning is logical Ika. But Mukai still reached the final. You could have gone with targets like Obito. I think another lesson is in order for you. Always know how strong your opponent is."
"But even if you know your opponent never underestimate him. Even if you are sure that the enemy is dead, stay alert who knows what trick he is hiding." Shunsui gave the advice in a firm voice. He wanted the boy to learn important survival skills.
Ika nodded as he took out a notebook and started writing it down carefully.
Shunsui thought 'I should give him another lesson to prevent himself from getting killed in future.'
He wanted to make sure Ika stayed safe in his strange dreams of becoming an assassin. Shunsui said, "Ika, There are people in this world with cheat codes. Assassinating them would not be easy. This guy has a byakugan that he hides beneath his eyepatch and I am pretty sure he keeps it always on. And that's why he easily saw you approaching him. To assassinate them, you would have to find ways to bypass their cheats or find your own cheat."
Ika listened with full attention. "How can I bypass such cheats?" The boy asked eagerly.
"Learn about your target, gather information about them, find their weakness. That is the first way. Another is to become a cheat yourself by having a kekkei genkai of your own, a forbidden jutsu something like that." Shunsui said as Ika nodded and wrote all of it down in the diary which was titled 101 ways to assassinate enemies.
Mukai looked at Shunsui and asked, "What are you even teaching this kid."
He was a bit shocked by the unusual lessons. "I am teaching him how not to die Mukai... how not to die." Shunsui said as he walked into the orphanage.
