"Now let's fight fire with fire."Shunsui muttered these words to himself as he prepared for the next part of the battle.
He did not have fire affinity or know any fire jutsu so how was he going to do it? The question might have confused others but Shunsui had his own way of solving problems.
Simple, he was going to play Diabolo. No not the video game Diabolo but diabolo as in what was called Chinese Yo yo game.
He smiled as he lazily rested one sword on his shoulder.
Shunsui activated the game. The instant he activated the game a thin strand of chakra connected the hilts of his twin blades.
It looked almost like a string made of chakra, a very durable string. Mukai narrowed his eyes. His byakugan could see the string clearly.
Mukai studied the string, trying to understand what Shunsui was planning next.
Shunsui only grinned as he flicked his wrist. One of his swords shot forward, still attached to the spiritual thread. Instead of spinning end over end, the blade rotated around the taut string with incredible speed, exactly like a diabolo racing across its cord.
One of his swords was acting as the Yo-Yo while his other sword was working as the handle that controlled it.
With a pull of his other sword the flying blade accelerated. The air screamed from the rapid movement.
A crescent of fire burst from the spinning edge and tore across the arena towards Mukai.
Mukai ducked underneath it just in time. The flaming slash carved a burning trench through the arena floor.
Before Mukai could counterattack the sword was already returning. Shunsui caught its momentum with his second blade instead of his hand.
The instant steel met steel, he redirected it back across the string. The blade became even faster on its return path. Another fiery arc exploded outward toward Mukai.
Mukai sidestepped quickly to avoid the second slash. Then a third attack followed right after. Each exchange between Shunsui's swords increased the blade's speed.
Each successful pass strengthened the game and made the flames hotter. The thread hummed with energy as it vibrated from the rapid movements. The sword blurred until it looked like a ring of fire dancing between the two blades.
Shunsui never stopped moving. His wrists rolled effortlessly, sending the sword gliding from left to right, high to low, behind his back, and over his shoulder.
Each motion was smooth like a street performer entertaining children with a simple toy. Yet every redirection launched another blazing crescent capable of slicing through solid stone.
The arena floor was soon covered with burning lines from the missed attacks.
Mukai had to use his fire lion fists to intercept the slashes as they had become to fast for him to dodge but all he got was his hands being cut.
The attacks were too fast and sharp even forthe Hyugas secret art. His hands sported lots of burns.
But he did not give up as he decided to close the distance between them. Mukai thought,'Whatever this is, he needs to build momentum before he sends out a flying fire slash from his sword. He could still hurt me from just the spinning sword itself but I could also counterattack if there is less distance between us.'
Mukai moved carefully at first, dodging the fiery arcs while looking for an opening. Small cuts appeared on his arms, legs, and shoulders, but he kept pushing forward.
The burns from the flames added to the pain, yet Mukai stayed determined.
Mukai finally found himself in range. "I've got you!" He threw a punch toward Shunsui's chest with one of his flaming lion fists.
The attack was fast and powerful, aiming to hit a vital point. Shunsui simply smiled.
With a tiny flick of his wrist, the flying sword wrapped once around Mukai using the chakra thread as its guide before snapping back.
The sudden change in direction was impossible to predict. The spinning blade slashed across Mukai's shoulder before flying back toward Shunsui. The cut was deep enough to cause more bleeding and pain.
Mukai sighed as he saw Shunsui's sword again spinning and coming back towards him.
"I give up."
Mukai raised his hand and admitted defeat before the damage became too severe. He knew he could not keep up with the increasing speed of the sword as well as the fire that was being generated by the sword.
Shunsui ended the game as Mukai gave up. His swords returned to normal as he summoned the blade that had turned into Yoyo back into his hand.
Shunsui would have liked if Mukai figured out the rules of the game. Another player could also play the game. Even Mukai could do the same if he had two objects in his hands like two kunais.
A chakra string would form connecting them and thus acting as a yoyo and he could do what Shunsui was doing. Of course, one had to have practice with a yoyo to do so.
Shunsui believed that with enough understanding and skill, others could join in his games and make the battles even more interesting.
But Shunsui was not someone who would just explain his rules to people even if they were from the same village in the middle of such a large crowd with Orochimaru as the proctor.
He was not that stupid. Revealing too much could give enemies ideas for later fights or cause problems for him. Shunsui preferred to keep some mystery around his abilities to stay one step ahead.
Orochimaru appeared in front of Shunsui. "The winner is Kyoraku Shunsui."
And the crowd erupted in cheers. People stood up from their seats and clapped loudly for the winner.
Shunsui gave the crowd a small bow by tipping his strawhat a little.
