Chapter 83 - Chapter 82: The Akimichi's way

Shunsui was eating barbecue at Yakiniku Q. He was taking full advantage of the discount that Choza got here and shared it with them.

The restaurant was warm and filled with the delicious smell of grilling meat. Smoke rose gently from the tables as customers enjoyed their meals.

Shunsui sat alone at a corner table, calmly chewing on piece after piece of perfectly cooked meat. The discount made everything taste even better, and he was in no hurry to leave.

He savored each bite, enjoying the peace after the tiring second round of the Chunin Exams. The restaurant was a good place to relax and think about the upcoming matches while filling his stomach with good food.

As he calmly ate alone, Choza arrived at the restaurant with his father, Akimichi Torifu. Choza was surprised to see Shunsui here.

The large jonin paused at the entrance for a moment before walking over with a big smile on his face. "Shunsui, what a surprise to see you here," Choza said warmly.

Shunsui finished the piece of barbecue in his mouth and bowed his head a little in greeting. "Sensei, Torifu san." His voice was polite and relaxed as always.

Choza and Torifu sat down at the table with him, clearly happy to see someone other than their family enjoying the family discount. Choza asked,"Why are you eating here? Not that I mind, the food is good here."

"I am eating here sensei because Matron made some food that she says is very healthy and I need the nutrition to perform well in front of the Hokage to show my will of fire or whatever. The plate only had green in it. Can you imagine only green? If I were a nature lover, I would have sued her," Shunsui said with a sigh.

"It looked like a plate of grass and leaves. I almost thought I was supposed to feed it to a rabbit instead of eating it myself. How is a growing shinobi supposed to get strong from green things only? I need meat to fuel my flames of... well, whatever flames I have."

Choza had a serious expression on his face. "Every food is good, Shunsui. You should have eaten it and then come to eat barbecue. A balanced diet is important for a shinobi. Vegetables give you vitamins and energy that meat alone cannot provide. You need strong bones and clear mind for the tough battles ahead."

"Skipping proper meals will only make you weak during the exams. I know barbecue is delicious, but you cannot live on it forever. Your body needs all kinds of nutrients to grow properly and perform at its best." Choza continued his lecture with care, explaining why a good diet mattered for young genin like Shunsui.

"Cut the crap Choza, even you did not eat your veggies when you were a kid. And I still notice you sliding your own veggies to my plate," Torifu said with a huff.

The older Akimichi crossed his arms and gave his son a knowing look. Choza looked embarrassed and tried to defend himself, but Torifu just laughed at his son's reaction.

"Anyways, what are you doing here? Should not you be training?" Choza asked, turning the conversation back to Shunsui.

"I am training," Shunsui said as he pointed at the two swords by his side. Choza thought for a moment about what was different here since Shunsui always had the swords with him, but then he realised the swords were in their Shikai state.

"They are in Shikai state? What for? You are not in a battle right now," Choza asked confused.

Shunsui decided to explain further. "I am training to keep my Shikai form of sword active at all times. Normally, it is straining but I am trying to make it natural for me so that I can always fight with my Shikai state of swords."

He spoke calmly while continuing to eat. "While I could now just use Shikai with just saying Katen Kyokotsu instead of the long poem, I have come to understand that I have to focus on one sword shape."

"My sword changes shape with their transformation and that makes my kenjutsu style fall off. As both the pair of swords require different kenjutsu styles. And that means much more training to master both forms of kenjutsu. It also makes it hard. I have decided to focus on just using my Shikai form of state as my basic kenjutsu style." Choza nodded in realisation and thought that it was a good decision on Shunsui's part.

Torifu looked confused since he did not know much about Shunsui's abilities. In fact it was the first time he was meeting Choza's student. "So this is your student Shunsui Kyōraku, Choza. He is as carefree as you say considering he is using the free month time before the next round to eat barbecue which by the way as the Akimichi clan head, I approve of," Torifu said with a wink.

"But I guess he might have a right to be carefree if he is as strong as you say him to be," Torifu added.

Shunsui said while taking a bite of his barbecue, "Choza san just exaggerates. I am just a little bit stronger than the other genins." Torifu chuckled.

"Choza says you wanted to learn Fuinjutsu and Barrier ninjutsu in the future. Since you have nothing to do for this month before Chunin Exams, why do not you come at the Akimichi compound and I would personally teach you." Choza looked surprised at his father offering this.

He complained, "He is my prodigious student. Do not steal him from me old man."

"Stop complaining Choza. This way you can focus on your other students a little more," Torifu said with a huff for which Choza had no retort to.

Shunsui was also in deep thought about this proposal. 'Hmm, I do not have anything to do except get used to my Shikai state of swords. I might as well learn some Fuinjutsu and Barrier ninjutsu.' He thought it was a good opportunity to improve his skills during the break.

"Thank you Torifu san. I accept your offer. Would you like some barbecue?" Shunsui offered him a skewer.

Torifu smiled. "And you speak the language of Akimichi bahahaha." He took the skewer and skewered it all in a second.

The older man opened his mouth wide and ate the entire skewer of meat in one big bite, chewing happily with a satisfied expression.

Meat juice dripped a little from the corner of his mouth as he grinned widely. "This is the good stuff. Nothing beats good barbecue after a long day," Torifu said while reaching for another skewer.
