Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Dragon Balls Gathered, Shenron Appears

The three Super Dragon Balls found in Universe 6 were gathered with the four found in Universe 7.

Instantly, the seven planet-sized Super Dragon Ball began to shimmer, humming in unison.

"Come forth, Shenron."

Beryl spoke the words in the language of the gods.

Almost the instant her voice ended, the balls burst into blinding light.

A sky-blotting Super Shenron opened its maw and swallowed Beryl whole.

By the time she regained her senses, a golden dragon loomed before her.

The dragon coiled in folds of gold, every scale vivid, eyes shimmering with emerald light.

"Speak your wish. Any wish, and I shall grant it."

Everything was bathed in gold, the air thick with immutable law, the source of it was this golden dragon stretching across the heavens.

Beryl drew a long breath. "Shenron, please revive the former God of Destruction Rumsshi of Universe 10—perfectly. If possible, revive the former Supreme Kai Gowasu too."

Her aim was to resurrect her teacher, the former God of Destruction of Universe 10.

But Supreme Kai and God of Destruction share a life; the moment Rumsshi was revived, he might drop dead again if the Supreme Kai was missing—so she added the word 'perfectly'.

As for Gowasu, it was a private test—to see if she could exploit a loophole in the Super Dragon Balls.

One second, two seconds, half a minute passed.

The emerald light in Shenron's eyes dimmed, yet he did not speak.

"Can't you do it?" she asked cautiously.

"I cannot. Neither Rumsshi nor Gowasu can be revived after death."

Beryl frowned. "What do you mean, cannot be revived?"

"Is it your wish to know the reason?"

"No." She bit back the urge to punch the dragon.

Can't revive is one thing; charging a wish to explain why—aren't you too shrewd? Aren't you supposed to explain why you can't grant a wish?

Shenron saw through Beryl's thoughts and seemed to have no intention of tricking her anymore, he said, "This is a rule that has existed since the creation of the multiverse under Zeno: gods slain by gods cannot be revived—something that even the Dragon Realm cannot interfere with."

"Former God of Destruction Rumsshi and former Supreme Kai Gowasu shared a life. Supreme Kai Gowasu was slain by Supreme Kai Zamasu—a god killing a god—so it is equivalent to Zamasu killing Gowasu and Rumsshi together."

"Do you understand?"

Beryl remained silent.

"Very well, what other wishes do you have?"

"May I ask another question?" she tried.

"You may."

For some reason, Beryl felt that Shenron's reactions seemed quicker, less mechanical than before.

"Can a Universe erased by Zeno be restored?"

In the original story, apart from Universe 7, all other universes were restored by Super Shenron, which always seems unbelievable.

Beryl had once asked Angel Kusu about it; Kusu said that the Super Dragon Balls cannot exceed the God of Destruction's level.

It wasn't that it couldn't be done—it was that it wasn't allowed.

So how could Shenron restore what Zeno erased?

"Impossible," the dragon replied, certain.

"The Dragon Realm cannot interfere with the entire Universe unless Zeno explicitly allows it. Even so, if a universe is completely erased by Zeno, it is almost impossible to restore it."

"Unless Zeno never intended to completely erase the universe in the first place, leaving a backdoor, only then could the Super Dragon Balls fully restore it with Zeno's permission."

"I see." Beryl frowned slightly after hearing the dragon's explanation.

So in the original story, the restoration had Zeno's permission; the Omni-King left a backdoor, perhaps even had an agreement with Zalama.

The details didn't matter to Beryl.

"Then how might I revive the God of Destruction Rumsshi of Universe 10?"

"I cannot answer that. But you already have the answer in your heart," Shenron said, studying her.

"If you have no other wish, then we'll meet again next time."

"Wait, that doesn't count as a wish, right?" she asked anxiously.

After a moment of silence, the dragon said, "That doesn't count. So, what other wish do you have? You can only make one wish, and I can grant any wish you have."

Upon hearing those words again, Beryl's lips twitched slightly.

Still saying that after the last failure?

She kept the retort to herself.

A Super dragon ball wish was too precious to waste.

Wait...

Did the Grand Minister know Shenron couldn't revive Rumsshi?

Then why give her the Super Dragon Balls?

"Does this mean they have high hopes for me and are investing in me ahead of time?"

No, no, no, that's impossible, it must be an illusion.

Just like the three great illusions in life: "They like me," "I can win," "My phone vibrated."

Whatever his game, she couldn't waste the wish.

What else to wish for?

Her goal was still to revive her teacher.

Since that was blocked, she pondered other options.

"Let me become a Super Saiyan while controlling Destruction Energy perfectly?"

"Too trivial."

With time and the Chat Group, she could accomplish that on her own.

"Revive King Yama or the souls swallowed by hell?"

King Yama is a god; killed by Zamasu, he likely falls under the same restriction.

As for the souls of Hell—using a wish for a few wayward souls felt wasteful.

And through the Chat Group, she sensed eyes on her—probably Zeno or the Grand Minister.

"Don't waste the wish" he had said.

If he knew Rumsshi couldn't be revived yet still helped gather the balls, the words must carry weight.

What did "don't waste" mean?

"Could I wish for two more wishes?"

She could already see Zalama himself arriving to swat her for such a cheek.

One wish already denied—now asking for two more?

Who's shameless enough to try that? Isn't that pure provocation?

"Wait—'two more wishes'… does that mean what I think it does?"
