Chapter 17 - Chapter 16: You're Not an Ancient Person from 1200 Years Ago.

Su Yu looked at her cute attempt to cover up her embarrassment, which only made it more obvious. The smile at the corners of his mouth just couldn't be suppressed.

This girl was becoming more and more "human."

Right.

He remembered something.

Kiana didn't have a mobile phone.

In this era, a mobile phone was basically a person's second organ.

No phone meant no way to communicate, no way to pay, no way to navigate, no way to... do anything.

He would have to go buy one in a bit.

Soon, the dishes were served one after another.

The Red Braised Pork was bright and glossy, the Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs were temptingly tangy, and the Dry-Fried Shredded Beef steamed with a charred aroma... Various domineering scents mixed together, forming an irresistible force over the small dining table.

Kiana stared at the table full of food, her throat bobbing noticeably.

But she didn't move her chopsticks.

Those hands rested obediently on her knees, her eyes staring straight at Su Yu, like a child who wouldn't dare eat until the parent gave the word.

Su Yu froze for a moment, and then his heart felt a little sour.

This girl, she still couldn't let go.

She was clearly craving it so much, yet she still had to wait for him, her so-called "Feeder," to nod. That barrier named "living under another's roof" wasn't that easy to eliminate.

But it didn't matter.

Time would solve everything.

Whether it was those pains or this barrier, they would eventually be smoothed away, bit by bit, by this daily life filled with the smoke and fire of the human world.

He believed that before long, that carefree, idiot Kiana who dared to snatch Mei's chicken leg would definitely return.

"What are you dazing off for?" Su Yu picked up his chopsticks and placed the largest piece of Red Braised Pork into her bowl. "Eat. It won't taste good if it gets cold."

Kiana's eyes lit up.

She quickly picked up her chopsticks, grabbed a piece of Red Braised Pork, and stuffed it into her mouth.

The soft, tender meat melted on the tip of her tongue, the salty and sweet sauce stimulating her taste buds.

Her eyes narrowed, and a look of near-intoxication floated onto her face.

Then came the second piece, the third piece...

Her speed got faster and faster, her mouth stuffed full, her cheeks bulging into two small buns.

Su Yu watched her appearance, looking like a starving ghost reincarnated, and couldn't help but laugh out loud.

This was right.

This was the way Kiana Kaslana should be.

Able to eat, able to sleep, heartless and carefree.

Kiana was startled awake by his laughter, only then realizing how ugly her eating manners were.

Her face went red with a whoosh.

She swallowed the food in her mouth, trying hard to straighten her back, attempting to retrieve a shred of the Kaslana family's elegance.

A Nordic Young Lady.

Must have etiquette.

Cannot lose composure.

She picked up a piece of Sweet and Sour Spare Rib, elegantly delivered it to her mouth, and chewed slowly and methodically.

Very good, she was maintaining it.

However, this forced aristocratic vibe only lasted less than ten seconds.

The numbing, spicy, fresh aroma of the Dry-Fried Shredded Beef was simply too domineering, and there was that bowl of steaming, distinctively grainy white rice...

To hell with etiquette!

If one isn't active when eating, there's a problem with one's thinking!

In less than ten minutes, the bowl of rice in front of Kiana had hit the bottom, and the meat in the dishes had been annihilated by more than half.

Sauce stained the corners of her mouth again, and a few grains of rice had fallen by the bowl.

But this eating manner, which couldn't be called good-looking, seemed inexplicably pleasing to Su Yu's eyes.

Watching her eat so happily, it was as if even this ordinary home-cooked meal had turned into some peerless delicacy.

"Want more?" Su Yu pointed to her empty bowl. "Add another bowl of rice? I know you martial artists have big appetites."

Kiana was just about to send the last shred of beef into her mouth; hearing this, her movements paused.

She raised her head, those heterochromatic eyes holding a little bit of embarrassment, and a whole lot of expectation.

As if asking: Is it really okay? Will I be eating too much?

"...Can I?" she asked in a small voice.

"Of course you can, eat until you're full."

Su Yu smiled and waved to the waiter, his tone as grand as a nouveau riche.

"Miss, bring another big bowl of rice over here! The kind that's heaped high!"

.....

After a full meal.

Su Yu paid the bill, and the two walked out of the restaurant.

The lights on the street had already come on. The orange streetlamps and the neon signs of the shops intertwined, dyeing the entire street in a warm hue.

"First, we go to the phone store," Su Yu said. "I'll buy you one. Modern people are equivalent to being half-crippled without a mobile phone."

Kiana continued to follow behind him like a little tail, the fingers pinching his cuff subconsciously tightening a bit.

"The phones in this world..." she hesitated and asked, "Is there any difference from the ones in my place?"

Su Yu thought for a moment, stopped, and turned back to look at her. "Hardware-wise, there shouldn't be much difference; they're all just a slab of glass, and the operation logic is about the same. You can understand it as the civilian terminals from your world. However—"

He paused for a moment, then added, "However, those apps and websites from your original world definitely don't exist here."

"But it doesn't matter. You aren't some ancient person who transmigrated from 1200 years ago; you'll get the hang of this thing very quickly. After all, I saw that you played on your phone quite a bit during class back then."

Kiana blinked.

She felt that Su Yu's words seemed to be implying something.

What did he mean by "ancient person who transmigrated from 1200 years ago"?

Also, how did he know about me playing on my phone in class?

Su Yu coughed once and didn't explain, simply speeding up his pace toward the phone store not far away.

The phone store was brightly lit.

Behind the glass counters, various models of mobile phones were displayed neatly—silver, black, rose gold—shining under the lights.

The shop assistant was a young girl with a high ponytail, wearing a uniform blue outfit. Hearing the door open, she immediately revealed a professional smile and looked up: "Welcome—"

Then, the word "in" got stuck in her throat.

Her gaze moved past the ordinary man and landed on the girl behind him.

A head of rare, waterfall-like white long hair, and a pair of eyes that looked just like heterochromatic gemstones.

Although she was wearing a men's black T-shirt that clearly didn't fit, it conversely made the girl's skin look glowing white. That special temperament, situated between a young maiden and a warrior, was simply more dazzling than all the latest flagship phones in the counter combined.

Was that... a cosplay?

Or some trainee idol who hadn't debuted yet?

The shop assistant's professional enthusiasm instantly turned into gossipy enthusiasm. She walked up quickly, her gaze locked dead on Kiana: "Good evening, Little Sister! Do you want to check out the latest phones? We just got in—"

Kiana was startled by this sudden enthusiasm.

Her experiences of long-term wandering and being wanted made her possess an instinctive wariness toward the approach of strangers.

She subconsciously retreated half a step. That movement, like a frightened small animal, was extremely natural as she hid directly behind Su Yu, revealing only half a head.

The shop assistant froze. This reaction... wasn't it a bit too cute?

She looked somewhat confusedly at the man she had been ignoring the whole time.

Su Yu smiled and moved a step to the side without batting an eyelid, perfectly blocking that overly direct gaze for Kiana.

"Sorry, she's a bit shy and not very used to this," he explained gently. "How about this, I'll just pick."

He scanned the phones in the counter and made a decision very quickly.

A tech UP-loader he followed before had recommended a new phone; the price-performance ratio was good, and the system was easy to use.

"This one." He pointed to one of them. "Throw in a protective case and a tempered glass screen protector."

The shop assistant withdrew that gaze that wanted to get close to the pretty young lady with some regret.

Sigh, such a good-looking girl is actually so shy.

But business still had to be done.

"Okay, please wait a moment."
