Chapter 39 - Chapter 39:The Quiet before the storm

The frozen mountains had grown silent.

Too silent.

Snow drifted across the jagged peaks like pale ghosts, carried by a restless wind that whispered through the cliffs surrounding Kyro's hidden fortress.

The fortress itself was buried deep within the ice-covered mountain, a labyrinth of chambers carved over years by Kyro's immense strength and Miku's delicate environmental manipulation.

Warmth radiated softly from the cavern entrance, faint traces of mana shimmering in the air.

Inside, Kyro stood shirtless within the massive training hall.

The chamber walls were carved from dense granite reinforced by Miku's magic.

Even so, the stone floor beneath Kyro's feet was fractured with hundreds of old impact craters from previous training sessions.

His body had changed.

Years of relentless training combined with the Dragon Furnace had transformed him into something far beyond human.

His skin was partially covered with overlapping black-red draconic scales that shimmered faintly in the firelight.

Four jagged horns curved backward from his temples, giving him a savage, primal appearance.

His long studded tail lazily moved behind him, scraping against the stone floor with a low grinding sound.

When he inhaled

The air vibrated.

Mana poured through his body like molten steel flowing through a furnace.

Kyro slowly clenched his fist.

The stone beneath his feet cracked.

His muscles tightened, veins glowing faintly with crimson mana as the Dragon Furnace activated automatically.

He exhaled slowly.

Then

Void Step.

His body vanished.

A thunderclap of displaced air exploded through the chamber as Kyro reappeared on the opposite side of the hall, claws slicing through the air in a perfect Sekiro One Mind strike, the blade-less slash creating a crescent shockwave that carved a deep trench across the stone wall.

BOOOOM.

Dust and rubble collapsed from the ceiling.

Kyro stood still for a moment.

Then he muttered quietly.

"Still too slow…"

Behind him

A pair of arms wrapped around his waist.

Soft.

Warm.

Miku.

Her wings fluttered gently as she leaned her cheek against his back.

Even with her now very visible pregnancy, she still moved with the effortless grace of a high fae.

Her belly was large now, the two-year fae pregnancy well underway.

Yet somehow she looked even more radiant.

Her once petite frame had grown stronger over the years, her thighs thick and powerful, her hips fuller, her body glowing with supernatural vitality. Her fae magic pulsed softly around her like drifting fireflies.

She smiled warmly.

"You're pushing yourself again, my fierce dragon."

Kyro looked down at her arms around his waist.

Despite everything he had become…

Despite the monstrous power growing inside him…

Her presence still calbed him instantly.

He placed one clawed hand gently over hers.

"You shouldn't sneak up on me like that."

Miku giggled.

"You always notice."

Kyro smirked slightly.

"Yeah… but I let you."

She hummed happily.

Then her expression changed slightly.

Her ears twitched.

Her wings stiffened.

Kyro noticed immediately.

"…What is it?"

Miku slowly turned her head toward the cavern entrance.

Her eyes narrowed.

"War."

Kyro's eyes sharpened.

"What?"

She closed her eyes, sensing the distant environment.

Fae senses were not limited to sight or sound.

They felt the emotional currents of the world.

And right now

The world felt violent.

After a moment she whispered softly.

"It's begun…"

Kyro walked toward the cavern entrance.

Outside the snowstorm had cleared slightly.

From the distant horizon

Faint flickers of light appeared.

Explosions.

Chakra bursts.

Entire battlefields igniting across the borderlands between nations.

The Third Great Shinobi War had officially begun.

Kyro crossed his arms, watching the distant flashes.

His draconic eyes glowed faintly in the darkness.

"So… they finally started."

Miku floated beside him.

Her hand gently rested on her belly.

Inside

Two faint magical heartbeats pulsed.

Kyro glanced down.

His expression softened slightly.

"…We stay hidden."

Miku looked up at him.

"Are you sure?"

Kyro nodded slowly.

"For now."

His tail swayed behind him.

"Let the villages tear each other apart."

His gaze turned toward the war-torn horizon.

"…When the time is right."

A faint smirk formed on his face.

"We hunt."

Meanwhile

Inside the war council chamber of the Konohagakure.

War reports were piling up.

The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, stood quietly near the window overlooking the village.

Behind him,

The war council argued intensely.

Troop deployments.

Supply routes.

Enemy movements.

But one report sat quietly on the Hokage's desk.

A sealed intelligence scroll.

The title read:

Subject: Kyro — humanoid and Dragon type summons

Hiruzen slowly opened the report.

Inside were sketches.

Battle analysis.

Descriptions of the dragon.

Mana energy.

A chilling sentence written in bold ink:

"Subject power level continues to grow exponentially. If left unchecked, subject may eventually rival a tailed beast."

Hiruzen exhaled slowly.

Behind him another voice spoke.

Cold.

Measured.

Dangerous.

Danzō Shimura.

"The war may provide the perfect opportunity."

Hiruzen did not turn.

"…Opportunity for what, Danzo?"

Danzo's visible eye narrowed.

"To capture him."

Silence filled the room.

Danzo continued.

"A creature like that cannot be allowed to roam freely."

Hiruzen finally spoke.

"…Or perhaps it cannot be controlled."

Danzo's cane tapped the floor once.

"We will see."

Far Away — Deep Underground

Inside a dark laboratory lit only by flickering candles,

A pale man slowly smiled.

Orochimaru.

He held a vial containing traces of Kyro's blood collected during their previous battle.

The liquid shimmered strangely.

Almost alive.

Orochimaru licked his lips.

"Dragons…"

His golden eyes gleamed with obsession.

"…how fascinating."

Back in the Land of Frost

Kyro turned away from the war-lit horizon.

Miku gently took his hand.

The wind howled across the mountains.

And somewhere deep inside the system space

Dreadbringer shifted in his sleep.

A low rumbling growl echoed through Kyro's chest.

The dragon was dreaming.

Dreaming of fire.

Dreaming of war.

And the world of shinobi had no idea what kind of monster was quietly waiting in the frozen mountains...

Elsewhere...

Root Headquarters — A Shadowed Decision

Deep beneath Konohagakure, hidden tunnels twisted through the bedrock like the veins of a sleeping beast. This was the domain of Root.

Inside a dimly lit chamber, masked operatives knelt in absolute silence.

At the center stood Danzō Shimura.

A map of the northern war front was pinned across the stone table before him. Several regions were marked with red ink, locations where mysterious sightings had been reported.

Witness reports.

Destroyed enemy squads.

Massive claw marks burned into the earth.

And one repeated description:

"A dragon in the sky."

Danzō's cane tapped softly against the stone floor.

"Confirm the reports again."

One Root operative spoke.

"Yes, Lord Danzō. Multiple squads from the Kumogakure have been found destroyed. No survivors.

The battlefield shows extreme heat damage and unknown energy signatures."

Danzō's visible eye narrowed.

"Dragon fire…"

Another operative spoke.

"And some survivors claimed the creature was controlled by a shinobi."

The room grew even quieter.

Danzō finally spoke again.

"Prepare a capture squad."

The Root agents did not react, but tension rippled through the chamber.

"Alive?"

The operative asked.

Danzō paused.

Then answered coldly.

"If possible."

His eye glinted.

"A weapon like that belongs to the village."

Far across the war-torn plains, a squad of Leaf shinobi sprinted through a forest scarred by recent battles.

At their head moved a young man with bright blond hair and calm blue eyes.

Minato Namikaze.

He landed lightly on a tree branch as the squad halted.

A wounded scout rushed toward them.

"Captain Minato!"

Minato helped steady him.

"What happened?"

The scout swallowed nervously.

"It wasn't the Cloud shinobi…"

Minato raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"

The man pointed toward the distant mountains.

"There was something in the sky."

Another shinobi stepped forward.

"We saw it too. Huge wings… red fire…"

The man's voice dropped.

"A dragon."

Minato's expression remained calm.

But inside

His curiosity sparked.

"A summoning contract?"

Another shinobi shook his head quickly.

"No. It didn't look like any summon we've ever seen."

He hesitated.

"And there was someone riding it."

The wind rustled through the broken trees.

Minato gazed toward the distant horizon.

Somewhere far away…

Something powerful was moving.

And the battlefield itself seemed to fear it.

He smiled slightly.

"Well…"

He adjusted his kunai pouch.

"That certainly makes this war more interesting."

High Above the Northern Mountains

Far above the clouds

A massive shadow moved through the sky.

Wings large enough to blot out the moon beat slowly through the cold air.

Dreadbringer.

The ancient dragon's colossal body cut through the heavens like a living warship.

His black-crimson scales shimmered faintly with internal heat, and each powerful wingbeat sent rolling thunder across the clouds.

Sitting casually atop the dragon's broad back was Kyro.

But unlike his terrifying dragon hybrid form

He was completely human right now.

Black cloak.

Calm expression.

Arms resting on his knees.

His hair whipped slightly in the freezing wind as he looked down at the war-scarred lands below.

Beside him floated Miku.

Her wings shimmered softly in the moonlight, her glowing fae aura contrasting beautifully with the terrifying dragon beneath them.

She rested one hand on her belly.

The twins inside stirred gently.

Kyro noticed.

He leaned forward slightly and placed his hand over hers.

"You should rest."

Miku smiled softly.

"You worry too much."

Kyro raised an eyebrow.

"You're carrying our kids."

She giggled.

"And I'm still stronger than most shinobi down there."

Kyro chuckled.

"Fair point."

Below them

Faint lights flickered across the battlefield.

Entire armies were moving.

The war was escalating quickly.

Kyro exhaled slowly.

"…Cloud ninja."

His crimson eyes glowed faintly.

"They're closest."

Miku nodded.

"They're also the most aggressive."

Kyro stood up on Dreadbringer's back, completely balanced despite the dragon's flight.

"Perfect hunting ground."

Miku drifted closer to him.

She wrapped her arms gently around his neck.

Then kissed him.

Soft.

Warm.

Loving.

When they separated, she smiled happily.

"Don't take too long."

Kyro smirked.

"I'll try."

A glowing portal of swirling system energy opened beside them.

Kyro gently lifted Miku in his arms and placed her inside the space.

Inside the System Realm, a peaceful forest environment instantly formed around her, soft grass, glowing flowers, and warm sunlight designed to keep her relaxed.

She waved at him playfully.

"Bring back snacks."

Kyro laughed.

"Cloud ninja count?"

She stuck out her tongue.

The portal closed.

Kyro's expression immediately changed.

The warmth vanished.

Now there was only the hunter.

He stepped toward Dreadbringer's neck.

The dragon's enormous golden eye opened slightly.

A deep rumbling voice echoed in Kyro's mind.

"War?"

Kyro grinned.

"War."

Dreadbringer's wings expanded wider.

The clouds parted beneath them.

Far below

A massive Kumogakure war battalion marched across the battlefield.

Hundreds of shinobi.

Lightning chakra flickering across their armor.

Kyro cracked his knuckles.

His body shimmered slightly as draconic power surged through him.

"Let's introduce ourselves."

Dreadbringer's maw slowly opened.

A glow of crimson fire built deep within his throat.

Then

They dove.

Like a meteor falling from the heavens.
