Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

The room was spacious and save for the space where the circle was drawn, the rest of the room was covered with tables that held every witching ingredient ever. Searching for salt and wormwood was easy, and he was quickly presented with the items he needed.

He didn't waste time, a puppy was very well needed, considering the witch wasn't found, and to keep searching, they had to go to the very person who wanted him dead, the Queen of Alderth. He immediately got busy with preparing the final steps, lighting up the candles.

There had even been a rack with weapons of different kinds of metals, so the silver blade he had lost had been reacquired. So he cast the summoning spell with ease, the flame turning into liquid gold when his blood spilled over it, prepared for the blast this time.

Dulce stared at the towering Demon with gold eyes and a matching glowing golden mark on his forehead, he hadn't gotten a hound this time either. He pressed a finger to his temple in frustration, this was starting to look like another one of his bad decisions.

"You summoned me?" The elegant Demon asked, it was the least violent reaction a Demon had had to seeing him.

"My apologies," Dulce bowed politely, "I wanted to summon a Hellhound. I apologize for the trouble, I'll undo the summons right aw-"

"Don't," The Demon cut him off, the request tinged with desperation.

Dulce straightened up, his confusion evident on his face. "My intention was to summon a companion to accompany me for all my days, I'm a Vampire." He laid out all his transgressions despite the danger.

The Demon listened intently, thinking deeply, as if he really liked the options that were being offered to him. "You say you simply want a companion for all your days?" He reaffirmed flippantly.

"I... I c-can... I mean, yes, but you don't..." He stumbled over his words, at a loss. He had only prepared for a negative reaction, he had no idea of what to do with someone enthusiastic to take on his request.

"Then I'll fulfil your wish," The Demon offered magnanimously, approaching, "I only have two requests."

Dulce looked around nervously, more than an enthusiastic Demon, he was more worried about the other two's reaction to another mistake. If he had suceeded, he would have been excused, but now... "What requests?" He asked awkwardly.

The Demon's gold eyes narrowed, watching him closely. "Can you break this off?" He asked roughly, pointing at the crisscross of golden vines around his throat.

Dulce studied the jewelry, it was made of a very clear gold, it must be incredibly expensive. "Y-You want me to break it?" He affirmed, reaching out to touch the glowing, smooth metal.

"Yes." He deadpanned, gold eyes flicking down at the brief contact with the jewelry.

"Very well, I'll try." He said hesitantly, snapping the delicate jewelry with ease. "M-My apologies," He apologized, not expecting the ethereal jewelry to snap at the first try.

"Snap that one as well," The Demon immediately directed without stopping to listen to his apologies.

Dulce crouched and gave the jewelry around his ankle the same treatment, rising with the pieces of the jewelry that had lost their glow. "Do you want them?" He held them out to the Demon.

Ruoxi waited, tense. He waited to be found, but nothing happened, all that was, was the pale-haired Vampire with limpid, silvery eyes holding his shackles up to him. "No. You can keep them."

He looked the Vampire over, gold eyes hypnotising. "Now onto my second request."

Dulce felt a shiver go down his spine, he didn't remember agreeing to the Demon's acceptance to stay. He was still holding onto an armful of broken gold jewelry when he was spun off his feet and into the Demon's arms. He was pressed up against him, his feet barely touching the ground.

"Ever so often, I'll need to eat." The Demon delivered calmly.

Dulce tried to wiggle free, "Eat?"

The door getting broken in interrupted the conversation, a loud crash heralding the appearance of two familiar figures. They hadn't been seen yet, but it was only a matter of time.

"Dulce!" He heard a scarily familiar voice yell his name. "That better be a bloody Hellhound!" Rage threaded the words, the thundering steps getting closer.

Ruoxi frowned at this unexpected obstacle, he hadn't considered the involvement of other Demons. He kept the Vampire close, he hadn't learned the full story, but he would do anything to not return, even if it meant going up against two other Demons.

Dulce winced, he could feel his neck getting wrung again. "I can explain," He tried, unable to break free of his captor.

Kath'tan and Asael walked up, blankly staring at the Vampire and the trouble he had gotten himself into.

Everyone went quiet, three sets of eyes focusing on the Vampire. Dulce grimaced, not exactly sure what he could say that would exonerate him.

"I saw a perfectly drawn circle in the witch's shop, so I thought I could succeed this time..." His voice got smaller as he spoke. "I already offered to undo the summoning."

"Then what is keeping these ones here?" Ruoxi spoke up, sizing up the other Demons.

"I-" Dulce opened his mouth, about to divulge all of their secrets.

"It's complicated," Asael cut him off, his voice cold. "You can leave now."

"Leave?" Ruoxi smiled, it was an alluring expression, that begged one to drown in the liquid gold pools he had for eyes. "I'm not doing that. We were even about to come to an agreement." He said, focusing his attention on Dulce.

He lowered his gaze, "Yes, eat. Do we have an agreement?"

Kath'tan scowled, he knew the ditzy Vampire had gotten tricked. "Foolish Vampire," He muttered under his breath, infuriated. "Do you know what it means for an Incubus to eat?" He bit out.

Ruoxi's sharp gaze cut to the Fiend, he would prefer to resolve this peacefully. He didn't even mind the other Demons sticking around.

Dulce's eyes widened, realizing for the first time what he had summoned. "D-Does it involve killing people?" He asked, aware of the myths surrounding the Cubi. Perhaps if no one had to die, it wouldn't be a terrible thing to let the Demon stay.
