I woke up to find two strong arms wrapped around my waist, their warmth a brief, comforting reminder of last night before reality rushed back. The room was still dim. Carefully, I slid out from Keifer embrace, not wanting to wake him.
After showering and dressing, I glanced back at the bed — he was still asleep, peaceful, unaware of the storm that was about to hit. I scribbled a quick note on the bedside table:
Kwanan,
I'm heading to work. See you later. Bye.
Reaching for my necklace, the sleek gold one that was as our gang's emergency alert, I froze. It blinked — a harsh, pulsing red. My heart lurched. That light only meant one thing.
Something was wrong. Really wrong.

"N-nothing," she stammered quickly. "Let's go. There's an alert from NSB — the Night Shadows Base." Her voice was brisk, her tone clipped, desperate to change the subject.
I let out a low chuckle. "You really need to work on your poker face, Mia."
But when I glanced again at my necklace, the steady red pulse sent a chill through me. My amusement evaporated.
In seconds, both of us slipped in the car.i checked the weapon in the back and slammed the door. The engine roared to life, and we tore down the street, tires screeching as city lights blurred past.
Mia tried calling Andrew. No answer. Then Drake. Nothing. Brooke's line went straight to voicemail.
"They'd never all go dark," I muttered, gripping the steering wheel tighter. The red light from my necklace cast strange shadows across the dashboard, blinking like a heartbeat — fast, frantic, and terrified.
Mia glanced at me, her voice barely a whisper. "Do you think they've been compromised?"
I didn't answer. The fear in my gut already had
