Nyx's POV
Even my powers had abandoned me.
It wasn't a gradual fading — it was an absence so complete, so sudden, that it felt like a betrayal. Like something I had trusted without question had simply turned its back and walked away, leaving me alone on the cold ground with two creatures standing over me and nowhere left to run.
They looked down at me with that same unreadable stillness, heads tilting almost in unison, like they were having a silent conversation about what to do with the broken thing at their feet. The moonlight caught their eyes — that unsettling, bloodshot red — and neither of them moved.
Neither of them blinked.
The waiting was almost worse than anything else.
'Our bond is stronger than anything.' Frost's voice surfaced through the dark like a candle in a cave — small, distant, but there. 'Soon you will understand.'
