The grand courtyard of the Academy of Piltover was teeming with life.
Under the rich, amber glow of dusk, hundreds of common folk, scholars, visiting dignitaries, and eager students crowded the manicured stone plazas, their voices blending into a steady, energetic hum that echoed off the high marble pillars.
Banners bearing the elaborate heraldic crests of Piltover's ruling merchant houses fluttered gently in the cool evening breeze, catching the fading sunlight that gleamed off brass spires and polished clockwork monuments.
Near the central podium, Professor Heimerdinger stood with his arms folded behind his back, his oversized, furry ears twitching rhythmically at every burst of noise from the assembly.
He impatiently tapped his small, booted foot against the cobblestones, his bushy eyebrows drawn together in a tight, inquisitive line.
Alongside him, several senior academy faculty members anxiously checked their gold pocket watches, whispering amongst themselves with mounting concern.
"They are cutting it remarkably close," Heimerdinger muttered, adjusting his oversized spectacles with a subtle flick of his clawed fingers. "Punctuality is the bedrock of scientific discipline! A delay of ten minutes is practically an eternity in academic terms!"
Just as the old yordle was about to dispatch a student messenger toward the workshop corridors, Viktor and Kyle finally emerged from the arched side entrance of the courtyard.
Viktor walked with his characteristic subtle limp, though his gaunt face looked noticeably paler than usual, his dark eyes shadowed with profound exhaustion beneath the golden light of the setting sun.
"Ah, there you two are!" Heimerdinger exclaimed, shuffling forward quickly. He stopped in front of them and squinted up at Viktor with a stern yet paternal frown. "Kyle, is everything quite alright? Viktor looks as though he hasn't seen proper sunlight or tasted a wholesome meal in a fortnight!"
"Everything is perfectly fine, Professor," Kyle assured smoothly, stepping slightly ahead to offer a polite, perfectly practiced smile. "Viktor simply overslept from sheer exhaustion. He worked straight through the night finalizing the stabilization apparatus to ensure tonight's demonstration goes off without a single hitch."
"Overslept? Hmph!" Heimerdinger wagged a small, furry finger sternly in Viktor's direction. "Youthful enthusiasm is commendable, Viktor—noble, even! But neglecting sleep in favor of obsessive research will ruin your mind long before it yields lasting results! Rest is vital to cognitive function! The brain is not an engine you can run without oil!"
"My sincere apologies, Professor," Viktor said softly, inclining his head in quiet deference. His voice was low, laced with his deep Zaunite accent. "It was... an oversight. It will not happen again."
Heimerdinger grunted, though his expression softened slightly. "See that it doesn't. Now, take your position at the main microphone. The crowd is growing restless, and the light is fading rapidly."

As twilight fully settled over the City of Progress, illuminating the courtyard with soft Hextech streetlamps and glowing glass globes, the anticipation in the air grew almost palpable.
In an elevated glass pavilion overlooking the plaza—a plush VIP terrace reserved for high-society guests, academy patrons, and house delegates—Kyle found himself surrounded by representatives from several smaller merchant houses and aristocratic families.
Dressed impeccably in a tailored navy jacket trimmed with silver thread, representing the prestigious Kiramman family, he effortlessly navigated the sea of highborn pleasantries.
He shook hands with wealthy financiers, offered charming smiles to court matrons, and exchanged polite small talk with young aristocrats eager to gain favor with House Kiramman.
As servants drifted through the crowd bearing trays of sparkling wine and delicate pastries, the idle chatter naturally turned to the recent string of strange events unsettling the upper city.
"Master Kiramman, have you heard the latest rumors circulating from the Lower Gates and the Central District?" an older, elegantly dressed noblewoman asked, fanning herself rhythmically with a lace-trimmed handheld fan.
"I confess my time has been largely occupied with academy preparations and council reports, Lady Vance," Kyle replied gracefully, adjusting his cuffs with an air of nonchalant aristocratic ease. "What rumors do you speak of?"
"Why, that ridiculous masked vigilante, of course!" another young noble added with a condescending chuckle, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. "The one the lower-tier tabloids have taken to calling 'Spider-Man.' They say he got into a violently destructive brawl just three nights ago near the Piltover Central Bank with a man wielding massive destructive gauntlets."
"Ah, the bank incident," Kyle said smoothly, maintaining a flawless, casual smile while mentally grimacing. "I did hear brief snippets of that rather absurd affair during breakfast yesterday."
"What is your official opinion on the matter, Kyle?" asked a young heiress standing nearby, tilting her head and hanging on his every word. "Some of the younger scholars are calling him a guardian. Is this masked person actually a hero, or simply a lawless nuisance?"
Kyle chuckled softly, leaning seamlessly into the arrogant, self-assured persona expected of a highborn Kiramman heir. "A hero? Hardly, my dear. In my view, he's nothing more than an attention-seeking menace in colorful tights. Real order and peace in Piltover are maintained by the Enforcers and proper civic governance, not by some theatrical lunatic leaping off roof tiles like an escaped circus performer."
Deep inside, Kyle cringed at his own grandstanding, offering a silent, wry apology to his masked alter-ego. You gotta do what you gotta do to keep suspicion off yourself, he thought to himself, stifling an internal laugh. If they only knew...
Suddenly, a sharp metallic tapping sound echoed across the grand courtyard, instantly cutting through the chatter of the terrace and the murmur of the crowd below.
Down on the central stage, Viktor stood before the grand brass microphone assembly. He tapped the heavy metal receiver a couple of times with his finger, followed by a quiet, strained cough into his elbow before clearing his throat to address the gathering.
"Good evening, citizens of Piltover, distinguished guests, and esteemed faculty," Viktor's deep, resonant voice echoed clearly across the plaza through the acoustic speakers mounted along the pillars. "First, I must extend my sincere apologies for the slight delay in starting tonight's demonstration. The technical preparations were... rather tedious, and I regrettably succumbed to exhaustion and overslept."
A wave of light chuckles and friendly laughter rippled through the audience, instantly charmed by his unpretentious honesty.
Viktor offered a faint, fleeting smile. "I wish to express my deepest gratitude to House Kiramman and our generous sponsors for making this public exhibition possible."
Up in the glass pavilion, Kyle raised his hand toward the stage and threw Viktor a crisp, two-finger salute. Down below, Viktor caught the gesture and acknowledged it with a brief, subtle nod before turning his attention back to the eager crowd.

Far below the sunlit towers, deep within the gloomy, smog-choked depths of Zaun where toxic chemical vapors hung like a suffocating green shroud, Stanwick crouched inside the shadowed ruins of a forgotten, rotting shaft house.
The heavy air was thick with the stench of rust, sulfur, and industrial grease. Strapped tightly across Stanwick's stooped back was a massive, jagged wingsuit—an imposing monstrosity forged from salvaged scrap metal, discarded hydraulic pistons, sharp titanium blades, and crudely wired Hextech conduits.
"Fools... arrogant, high-and-mighty Pilties," Stanwick rasped, his voice dripping with venomous malice as he pulled leather harnesses taut across his chest, locking the brass buckles in place with heavy clinks. "They sit comfortably in their polished marble towers, drinking fine wines, while we rot in the sump and choke on their leftovers. But tonight, they will learn what it means to bleed!"
He reached down to his wrist gauntlet and clicked a heavy master switch.
With a low, vibrating hum, the volatile Hextech core mounted between his shoulder blades sputtered violently to life. Vibrant blue electrical arcs danced wildly across the rusted metal frame, casting harsh, sinister shadows across his twisted, crazed features. The immense, jagged wings extended outward with a loud, mechanical hiss, locked into flight formation by pressure valves.
A raspy, hysterical laugh erupted from his chest. Stanwick primed the thrusters, bent his knees, and launched himself upward with explosive force.
The sheer kinetic thrust blasted through the decayed wooden roof of the shaft house, sending rotten beams, dust, and shattered glass flying outward into the dark abyss.
Like a terrifying creature born of soot, rust, and vengeance, Stanwick ascended rapidly through the dense green fog of the Undercity. The suit's unrefined thrusters flickered violently, whining under the strain, but the raw hex-energy held strong.
Breaking through the thick toxic veil that separated the two worlds, he crested into the crisp, clear night sky above Piltover, his metallic wings gleaming under the moonlight.
Turning his glowing red goggles toward the bright, shimmering lights of the Academy courtyard in the distance, the Vulture dipped his shoulders and swooped down for the hunt.

Back in the illuminated courtyard, Viktor gestured gracefully toward the central platform.
"For generations, mankind has dreamed of conquering the skies," Viktor explained into the microphone, his voice commanding the absolute silence of the crowd. "While large airships allow us to float across continents, they do not grant true personal freedom in flight. Today, through the refined stabilization of Hextech matrices, we present a new horizon for personal mobility."
With a smooth hand signal from Viktor, the heavy floor panel at the center of the stage slid open with a soft mechanical hiss.
Floating upward from the recess came Professor Heimerdinger's young research assistant, standing atop a sleek, wide-winged Hextech glider that hummed with a soft, cyan glow.
The crowd gasped in collective awe as the compact apparatus hovered effortlessly three feet off the ground, perfectly balanced.
Though visibly nervous under the gaze of hundreds, the young assistant gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and leaned forward, guiding the glider into a slow, smooth ascent above the courtyard.
He banked gently to the left, looped gracefully around the perimeter of the courtyard pillars, and dipped up and down to demonstrate pitch and responsiveness.
Gaining confidence from the enthusiastic gasps and thunderous applause echoing from the crowd below, the young man grinned broadly, performing a grand, sweeping wave from the air.
In the elevated VIP terrace, the wealthy elite began murmuring in hushed excitement, already calculating the immense commercial and military potential of personal Hextech flight. Kyle joined in the thunderous applause, letting out a loud, appreciative whistle.
Lady Vance laughed lightly, fanning herself faster. "My, Master Kiramman, you seem quite taken with this invention!"
"It's a magnificent step forward for the entire city, Lady Vance," Kyle replied with a polite, enthusiastic grin. "Progress at its absolute finest."
Down on stage, Viktor checked his gold pocket watch and raised a hand toward the hovering flight platform. "Alright, lad! That is more than sufficient for the initial demonstration! Bring her down safely!"
"Understood, Sir!" the assistant called back, easing back on the throttle control to initiate a gentle descent toward the landing pad.
Suddenly, a violent, electrifying prickle buzzed at the very base of Kyle's skull. His Spider-Sense flared with overwhelming intensity, alarm bells screaming wildly in his mind.
Danger. From above!
Before the assistant could lower the glider more than a few feet, a dark, jagged shadow streaked through the moonlit sky like a striking hawk.
With terrifying velocity, the Vulture swooped down into the open courtyard air, his sharp, mechanical metal talons clamping directly around the young assistant's throat.
The attacker ripped the screaming boy completely off the glider in one brutal, fluid motion.
The entire crowd shrieked in sudden horror as the Vulture swept back up into the night air, carrying the thrashing, choking assistant like prey in his clutches.
Abandoned and unbalanced, the unmanned Hextech glider wobbled wildly out of control, its engines sputtering and sparking violently as it pitched downward toward the panicked crowd below.
Pandemonium broke out instantly. Nobles knocked over chairs and spilled drinks in their desperate rush to escape, students screamed in terror, and the massive crowd surged backward in chaotic stampedes.
Up on the glass terrace, Kyle stood frozen for a split second, his eyes locked onto the menacing, bird-like silhouette soaring against the moonlit clouds and the flickering, unstable Hextech thrusters on its back.
"You've got to be kidding me," Kyle muttered under his breath, his calm aristocratic facade vanishing completely as his expression hardened and his hand subtly reached inside his jacket for his suit.
