Chapter 1 - moonlit streets

Moonlit Streets

In the heart of the city, where neon lights flickered and shadows danced between towering buildings, lived a secret that few dared to believe. Among the bustling crowds and honking cars, there was a world unseen—one where magic whispered in the wind and wolves walked beneath the moonlight, hidden in human form.

Lena had always felt out of place. At seventeen, she knew the city like the back of her hand, but she sensed something strange lurking just beyond her sight. On nights when the moon was full and silver, she heard distant howls carried by the cold breeze. Most people called it the wind. She knew better.

One evening, as she hurried home from school, a sudden chill swept through the air. The streetlights flickered and a figure appeared beneath the glow of a flickering lamppost—a tall boy with sharp eyes that gleamed like amber, hair wild as if caught in a constant breeze.

"Lost?" he asked, voice low and calm.

Lena shook her head, heart pounding. "No, just... walking."

He smiled—a flash of sharp teeth that somehow felt safe instead of scary.

"My name's Kieran," he said. "I think you've been hearing the wolves too."

Lena's breath hitched. "You're one of them?"

Kieran nodded, eyes reflecting the full moon above. "We're the guardians of the city's hidden magic. We protect the balance between the human world and the wild."

From that night on, Kieran showed Lena the city she thought she knew but never truly saw. Rooftops where wolves howled under the stars, secret alleys shimmering with magic, and an ancient power pulsing beneath the concrete.

But their bond wasn't just about magic—it was something deeper. Every glance, every shared secret under the moonlight, pulled them closer. Lena found herself craving Kieran's presence, his warmth like the wolf's pack she never had.

One night, as the city slept, Kieran took her to the edge of the river where the moonlight danced on the water's surface.

"I have to tell you something," he whispered.

Lena's heart skipped. "What is it?"

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I'm bound to the wolf forever, but with you... I feel more human than ever."

Lena smiled, eyes shining. "Then let's face this city together—wolves, magic, and all."

And under the watchful gaze of the moon, they stood side by side—a girl and a wolf, their worlds forever entwined in a city where magic never truly sleeps.
