Chapter 10 - best friends

Late evening wrapped the Watson mansion in soft gold light.

Kaizer and Jasfer sat in the private study—

not as businessmen…

but as best friends.

Two untouched cups of tea rested between them.

Silence first.

The comfortable kind.

Then Kaizer spoke, leaning back slightly.

"She changed him."

Jasfer didn't pretend he didn't know who he meant.

A slow smile touched his lips.

"…I was thinking the same."

Kaizer exhaled through his nose, almost a laugh.

"I raised Keifer to be sharp. Controlled. Always ten steps ahead."

He looked at the window.

"Lately… he looks like he finally stopped running."

Jasfer stirred his tea gently.

"Jay stopped hiding."

Kaizer turned to him.

"She comes home lighter," Jasfer continued quietly.

"Talks more. Eats with me. Even argues with me again."

A small smile.

"I missed that."

Kaizer nodded.

They didn't speak for a moment.

Two fathers who had seen too much ambition and too little rest.

Kaizer broke the silence.

"You noticed it early, didn't you?"

Jasfer chuckled.

"You noticed it earlier."

That earned a rare, genuine smile from Kaizer.

"They still think they're being professional," Kaizer said.

Jasfer raised an eyebrow.

"Of course they do."

Kaizer's voice softened.

"They don't know how loud peace can be… when you've only lived in pressure."

Jasfer leaned back.

"For Jay… it's the first time she isn't carrying everything alone."

Kaizer's jaw tightened slightly.

That hit home.

Then he said, slowly—

"Jasfer…"

"Yes."

"If one day… this becomes more than sneaking out and long drives…"

Jasfer already knew what was coming.

Kaizer met his eyes.

"…I don't see a problem."

Jasfer's smile was small.

But steady.

"Neither do I."

Not business.

Not alliances.

Not shares.

Just two fathers, sitting in a quiet room…

realising that the best decision their children might ever make—

was choosing each other.
