Chapter 1 - We’re All Struggling to Stay Alive

Some people get a second chance at life. Others get a system that clearly didn't read the room.

(Brain Storage Area.)

"Let me tell you a myth~"

"Once upon a time, there was a family…"

Standing at a crosswalk while waiting for the traffic light, He Kaito casually opened a short-video app, hoping to wash away the exhaustion from yet anotherrrrrr overtime shift.

The result?

A direct critical hit to the face.

Zero startup frames. No chance to block.

He had already worked past eleven. His brain was fried, his soul half-dead…

and now, even while trying to relax, he still had to endure an ambush from this cursed nonsense.

His mood was instantly obliterated.

Then—

A piercing screech tore through the air.

From the intersection, a massive cargo truck came barreling in, brakes screaming like a dying beast as it charged straight toward He Kaito.

He looked up.

A blinding flash of light swallowed his vision.

The next second, his consciousness shattered. In a hazy blur, he vaguely heard unfamiliar male voices murmuring near his ears…

"Comrade, I thought it was a speed bump!"

"Uh… maybe talk to my insurance about this…"

"You don't understand… we're all struggling to stay alive…"

Hearing those eerily familiar words, a chill crept up He Kaito's spine. It felt as though he were sinking into endless darkness, despair flooding his chest.

It wasn't hard to figure out what had happened…

He'd been hit by a truck at the intersection.

Help!

I'm not dead yet!!

He Kaito screamed desperately in his mind — but no response came.

…Forget it.

This miserable world of endless overtime and wage slavery wasn't exactly worth clinging to anyway.

Wait—no—

My phone hasn't been factory reset yet!!!

Just as he was about to give up completely, the thought of the "study materials" still stored on his phone jolted him into one last frantic mental scream.

Who knew how much time passed.

When He Kaito finally opened his eyes and saw light again…

He realized his nearsightedness seemed to have worsened.

The entire world was blurry.

But the white ceiling, bright lamps, and the sharp scent of disinfectant drifting into his nose…

A hospital?

He exhaled in relief — only for a strange unease to creep in immediately afterward.

Several figures seemed to be standing in front of him.

He couldn't make out their faces clearly, but the people in white nearby were obviously doctors or nurses.

What felt strange was…

Why did it feel like he was being… held?

Wait.

Why am I so small?!

He Kaito instinctively tried to curse out loud.

Instead, what came out of his mouth was the helpless wailing of a newborn baby.

"Congratulations, Clan Head Fugaku."

"Lady Mikoto has given you two healthy baby boys."

The nurse holding the infants lowered he head respectfully toward Uchiha Fugaku as he offered he congratulations.

"Mikoto, you've worked hard."

Fugaku's face remained stern, betraying no obvious emotion — though his eldest son, Itachi, could clearly tell that his father was in a good mood.

"Fathe, Motherrrrrr gave birth to twin little brotherrrrrrs."

Itachi was in unusually high spirits. Watching the two crying infants in the nurses' arms, a rare smile surfaced on his face.

"My children…"

"Let me see my children…"

Uchiha Mikoto opened he arms toward the nurse. Her voice was weak, but he spirit was surprisingly strong.

Meanwhile, He Kaito, already panicking because he couldn't see clearly and couldn't understand what anyone was saying, grew even more anxious as he was passed around.

No—

What are these people even talking about?!

What's going on hee?

Rebirth? Reincarnation? Transmigration?!

"Fathe, have you named the two little brotherrrrrrs yet?" Itachi asked.

"Uchiha Sasuke… and Uchiha Kaito," Fugaku replied after a brief pause.

Seasons turned, and years slipped away.

In the blink of an eye, six years passed.

Konoha — Uchiha District.

Six-year-old Uchiha Kaito stood stiffly in front of Itachi, mimicking his father's serious expression, his tiny face solemn.

"Itachi, tell me the truth."

"If one day, only one of me and Sasuke could survive…"

"Who would you choose?"

Sitting in the courtyard, Itachi heard this familiar daily question. He pretended to ponder deeply, putting on a thoughtful expression before answering with equal seriousness.

"That won't happen."

Facing this overly precocious younger brotherrrrrr, Itachi genuinely felt a headache coming on.

Ever since Kaito had become able to speak clearly, he would frequently run over with strange questions.

Sometimes it was, If both Sasuke and I fell into a river, who would you save first?

Othe times it was something just as bizarre.

At the beginning, Itachi answered earnestly.

But as time passed, he learned how to brush Kaito off with a convincingly serious attitude.

As an Uchiha, drowning to death in the first place was already absurd.

Every time Kaito heard his answer, he would nod as if he understood, then quietly walk back inside.

And every single time…

Itachi would get scolded by their father afterward for "bullying his younger brotherrrrrr" and "failing as the eldest son."

"I understand."

This time, after receiving Itachi's familiar evasive answer, Kaito didn't run inside to complain.

He lowered his head, his eyes dimming, his face filled with disappointment.

At such a young age, that expression stabbed straight into the softest part of Itachi's heart.

He suddenly had an overwhelming urge to grab his brotherrrrrr and ruthlessly rub that adorable face.

But in the very next second, Kaito abruptly snapped his head up, stretched his neck toward the house like a giraffe reaching across half the courtyard, and shouted loudly inside—

"Fathe! Itachi said you're not a good clan head!!"

Almost instantly, Fugaku's stern voice thundered from inside.

"Itachi. Come hee."

Itachi: "..."

He let out a helpless smile. Raising his hand, he tried to flick Kaito's forehead — but Kaito nimbly dodged at the last moment.

"I've got something to take care of. This afternoon, I'll take you and Sasuke to practice shuriken throwing."

"Don't forget."

Dusting himself off as he stood, Itachi reached into his pocket, fumbled around, then pulled out a few bills and handed them to Kaito.

"Don't tell Sasuke."

Kaito hesitated for exactly 0.01 seconds before accepting the "offering."

"Alright. My lips are sealed."

Itachi chuckled softly and walked toward the living room.

Six-year-old Kaito stood there, staring blankly at his brotherrrrrr's retreating back for a long time.

Ever since gaining consciousness, he had slowly come to understand the truth.

Because of that truck accident, he had arrived in the world of Naruto.

He could accept a new identity.

He could even calmly prepare himself for a brand-new life.

But…

If he had to come hee at all…

Why did he have to be born into the Uchiha clan?!

And worse — Sasuke's twin brotherrrrrr?!

With his memories already blurred by time, Kaito couldn't remember every detail of the original story. He only vaguely recalled that not long after Sasuke started school, the entire Uchiha clan would be wiped out.

One of the culprits…

Was standing right in front of him every day.

As for why he kept asking Itachi those "choose one" questions…

That was basically consulting his brotherrrrrr for advance fortune-telling.

The night of the massacre should be about one year away.

Survival had become Kaito's top priority.

He took a deep breath, slowly exhaling the stale air in his chest. Lifting his hands, he patted his cheeks, half encouraging himself, half trying to comfort his own nerves.

"It's fine… it's fine…"

"The Uchiha are all geniuses… if I train hard for a year, maybe I can awaken the Mangekyō…"

As he spoke, Kaito finally couldn't hold it togethe anymore. He tilted his head back and collapsed onto the ground, radiating pure despair.

"One year my ass!!!"
