Chapter 15 - CHAPTER 15: Before Everything Changed

**[Flashback — 1 Month Earlier | Morning — Kim Mansion | 06:42 AM]**

The mansion woke before the sun.

Not out of necessity—

but habit.

Soft light filtered through tall windows.

Curtains moved slightly with the breeze.

Somewhere downstairs—

utensils clinked.

Voices murmured.

Life had already begun.

Upstairs—

Aeri was still asleep.

Curled slightly under the blanket—

face half-hidden.

Peaceful.

Unaware.

For once—

her mind wasn't racing.

No calculations.

No control.

No system.

Just—

quiet.

A soft knock.

"Aeri?"

Her mother's voice.

Gentle.

Familiar.

Aeri shifted.

"…Five minutes…"

The door opened anyway.

Her mother stepped in—

quietly.

She sat beside her.

Brushed her hair back.

"You'll be late."

Aeri frowned.

Eyes still closed.

"…Then don't wake me."

A soft laugh.

"You always say that."

Aeri opened her eyes slowly.

"…And you never listen."

"Get up."

**[Kitchen — 07:08 AM]**

By the time Aeri reached downstairs—

the mansion was alive.

Not chaotic—

but full.

Voices overlapped.

Footsteps echoed.

Everyone was already moving.

Gun-woo's voice cut through first:

"I told you, you took my keys."

Do-hun didn't even look at him.

"I didn't take anything."

"You did."

"You lost it."

"I didn't—"

Aeri walked past them.

"…You both are exhausting."

Gun-woo pointed immediately.

"See? Even she agrees."

"I said both."

"Still counts."

"…It doesn't."

At the dining table—

Jin-su sat perfectly composed.

Tablet in hand.

Focused.

But the moment Aeri entered—

he looked up.

"Aeri."

She paused.

"…Yes?"

"Sit."

"…Why?"

"Sit."

She sighed—

but sat anyway.

He pushed a glass toward her.

"Drink."

Aeri narrowed her eyes.

"…Suspicious."

"Drink."

She did.

Ki-nam appeared from the kitchen—

placing a plate in front of her.

"You didn't finish yesterday."

Aeri looked at him.

"…You all track my eating habits?"

"Someone has to."

No escape.

Behind them—

the bhabhis stood together.

Watching.

Observing.

Min-hee spoke first:

"She looks tired."

So-ra nodded.

"She didn't sleep properly again."

Eun-chae added quietly:

"She's pushing herself too much."

Yoo-na crossed her arms.

"She always does."

Aeri paused.

Just for a second.

Then smiled.

"I'm fine."

Same answer.

Every time.

Ha-na stood slightly apart.

One hand resting unconsciously over her stomach.

Subtle.

But there.

Aeri noticed.

Her gaze softened—

just a little.

"…You should sit more."

Ha-na blinked.

"You too."

Aeri didn't respond.

**[Living Room — 07:36 AM]**

The noise shifted.

Lighter now.

Warmer.

"AERI FOI!"

Min-jun ran first.

Fast.

Too fast.

Aeri caught him instinctively.

"…Slow down."

"But you're here!"

"…I live here."

"Still."

Seo-joon followed—

talking nonstop.

"You woke up late today."

"…Thank you for the update."

"You always wake up early."

"…Not always."

"Today is proof."

Aeri blinked.

"…You argue too much."

Do-yoon stood quietly behind.

Watching everything.

Aeri noticed immediately.

She always did.

"Come here."

He hesitated—

then walked closer.

She pulled him beside her.

Gently.

No words needed.

Si-woo ran in—

holding a toy behind his back.

Eyes shining.

"Aeri foi!"

"…What now?"

He revealed it proudly.

"Play later?"

"…After class."

"Promise?"

Aeri sighed.

"…Fine."

Behind them—

Tae-yun dropped onto the couch.

Half asleep.

"…Why is it so loud this early?"

Aeri threw a cushion at him.

"…Because you exist."

He caught it.

Grinning.

"Violence already?"

"Deserved."

Sung-min leaned against the wall—

arms crossed.

Watching.

"You're spoiling them."

"They're kids."

"And you're worse."

"…Maybe."

Myung-soo adjusted his cuff calmly.

"She handles all of you too well."

Gun-woo laughed.

"That's because she has no choice."

Aeri shot him a look.

"…Keep talking."

Jin-su stepped in.

Calm.

The room shifted slightly.

Not quieter—

but steadier.

"Aeri."

She turned.

"Sit."

She sat.

No argument.

He pushed juice toward her again.

"Finish it."

"…You're all controlling."

"No."

A pause.

"You're predictable."

Around her—

everything continued.

Voices.

Movement.

Laughter.

Min-jun clinging to her arm.

Seo-joon talking non-stop.

Si-woo climbing onto the couch.

Do-yoon sitting quietly beside her.

And in the middle of it—

Aeri sat.

Surrounded.

Needed.

Pulled from every side.

For a moment—

she didn't speak.

Didn't react.

Just—

looked.

At all of them.

At the chaos.

At the warmth.

At the life built around her.

Then—

slowly—

a small smile appeared.

Soft.

Real.

"…You're all exhausting."

A pause.

"But fine."

Laughter erupted.

By late morning, the mansion hadn't quieted—

it had only softened.

From loud chaos—

to comfortable noise.

It shifted.

The kind that didn't demand attention—

but filled the space anyway.

Aeri stepped into the hallway—

phone in hand.

Unread messages.

Missed reminders.

Ignored notifications.

For once—

she didn't check them.

"Aeri!"

She turned.

Min-jun again.

Always the first.

"You promised!"

"…I said later."

"It's later."

Aeri blinked.

"…You manipulate time now?"

"Yes."

She sighed.

"…Fine."

Easy.

Familiar.

**[Game Room — 11:26 AM]**

The four of them gathered.

Min-jun.

Seo-joon.

Do-yoon.

Si-woo.

And in the middle—

Aeri.

"This one."

Si-woo pushed a game controller toward her.

"No, that one is mine!" Seo-joon protested.

"You always take it!"

"Because I win!"

"You cheat!"

"I don't!"

Aeri took both controllers—

placing them down.

"…None of you are playing if you keep fighting."

Silence.

Immediate.

Min-jun whispered:

"…She's serious."

They settled.

Quickly.

The game started.

Noise returned.

Laughter.

Arguments.

Excitement.

Min-jun leaned against her shoulder.

Focused.

Seo-joon kept talking—

even while playing.

Do-yoon stayed quiet—

but his eyes followed every move.

Si-woo kept trying to distract everyone.

"…You're losing," Aeri said calmly.

"I'm not!"

"You are."

"I'll win."

"You won't."

"…You're mean."

"…Accurate."

Laughter again.

For a moment—

Aeri forgot everything else.

No system.

No pressure.

No control.

Just—

this.

**[Kitchen — 12:40 PM]**

The atmosphere softened.

Warm.

Calm.

Aeri entered quietly.

Ha-na was still standing.

Cutting vegetables slowly.

Carefully.

"…You're still working."

Ha-na looked up.

Smiled.

"I like it."

Aeri stepped forward.

Took the knife from her hand.

"Sit."

"…You don't have to."

"I know."

Aeri continued cutting.

Clean.

Precise.

Yoo-na leaned against the counter.

"She won't listen."

Min-hee adjusted a tray.

"She never does."

So-ra added softly:

"She gets that from all of you."

Aeri didn't look up.

"…I'm right here."

"We know."

Eun-chae stepped closer.

Adjusted Aeri's sleeve slightly.

"You don't notice small things."

Aeri glanced at her.

"…That's why you're here."

A small smile passed between them.

Ha-na slowly sat down.

One hand resting lightly over her stomach.

Aeri noticed again.

Her movements slowed—

just a little.

"…You need more rest than me."

Ha-na smiled softly.

"…Then sit with me."

Aeri didn't.

But she stayed.

**[Afternoon — Hallway | 02:55 PM]**

Aeri walked past quickly—

focused again.

Back to routine.

Back to control.

"Still working?"

Sung-min's voice.

She didn't stop.

"…Always."

"You'll burn out."

"I won't."

"You will."

Aeri paused.

Turned slightly.

"…Then I'll fix it."

Sung-min watched her.

"…You can't fix everything."

A pause.

Aeri's gaze didn't change.

"…Watch me."

**[Rooftop — 03:10 PM]**

Silence.

Finally.

Aeri stood near the edge.

Looking out.

Breathing.

Footsteps approached.

Jin-su.

"You're here."

"…Needed space."

He stood beside her.

"You're pushing yourself."

"…Everyone says that."

"Because it's true."

A pause.

"You don't have to do everything alone."

Aeri looked at him.

"…I'm not alone."

Not wrong.

But not complete.

"…Still."

"…I know."

**[Evening — Dining Hall | 06:58 PM]**

Dinner was louder than usual.

Everyone present.

No one missing.

Aeri sat between Gun-woo and Do-hun.

Bad decision.

"You're eating slow,"Gun-woo said.

"You're watching too much," she replied.

Do-hun smirked.

"She always does."

Aeri glared.

"…You talk too much."

Gun-woo leaned forward.

"She talks more."

"I do not."

"You do."

"I don't."

"See? Talking."

Aeri grabbed a spoon—

pointing it at him.

"…One more word."

Silence.

Then—

laughter.

Across the table—

Min-jun whispered loudly:

"Aeri foi is scary."

Aeri looked at him.

"…Eat your food."

He immediately obeyed.

Seo-joon giggled.

Si-woo copied him.

Do-yoon just smiled quietly.

Jin-su watched everything.

Calm.

Observing.

Then spoke—

just once:

"Enough."

Silence.

Instant.

Aeri smirked slightly.

"…Useful."

**[Transition — Before Birthday Scene]**

The house slowly settled again.

But the warmth didn't fade.

It lingered.

In small touches.

In small words.

In presence.

**[Evening — Kim Mansion | 08:12 PM]**

The moment she entered—

she stopped.

Lights.

Decorations.

Warm glow.

Everyone gathered.

Waiting.

"Happy early birthday."

Silence.

"…You remembered?"

Her mother smiled.

"We always do."

Kids ran toward her.

Brothers smiled.

Bhabhis watched.

Warm.

Proud.

For a moment—

Aeri didn't move.

Didn't speak.

Then—

"…Thank you."

Soft.

Real.

**[Night — Kim Mansion | 11:48 PM]**

The house was quiet again.

But not empty.

Warm silence.

Aeri sat near the window.

Phone in hand.

Messages filled the screen:

"Sleep early."

"Eat properly."

"Don't skip meals."

"Good night foi"

She stared at them.

Long.

Something in her chest shifted.

Soft.

Unfamiliar.

The messages felt warm.

But for the first time—

silence felt louder than them.

She typed:

"Good night."

She placed the phone aside.

Leaning back.

Closing her eyes.

No system.

No control.

No pressure.

Just—

peace.

"They gave her everything—

attention, care, love."

A pause.

"They just didn't realize…"

"how quietly… it would all disappear."
