"Who is this ignorant girl, and where did she come from?" the elder Mr. Norton said sharply, his voice filled with authority. "Know your place. You are not qualified to call me Great Grandpa. You haven't even bonded into the Norton family yet. So stop interfering in our family matters."
Ashley froze.
The reprimand left her completely stunned. Regret flooded her almost instantly. She hadn't expected that the scheme she worked so hard to arrange would fail to harm me. Instead, she had only made herself look foolish in front of the elder Mr. Norton.
She lowered her head quickly, biting her lip hard.

For the rest of dinner, she didn't dare say another word.
