My heart sank the moment Ashley mentioned my mother.
How did she know so much about Mom?
"What about it?" I asked coldly, tightening my grip on the phone.
"Don't be like that, dear sister." Ashley's voice was syrupy sweet, the same fake kindness she always used. "I'm concerned about Ms. William too. When I heard her hospital fees might increase, I was worried. I kept thinking about how I could help you."
Help me?
I let out a cold laugh. "And how exactly do you want to help?"
"I have a friend who runs a magazine company," Ashley said smoothly. "They're hiring right now, and the employee benefits are excellent. With your talent, you'd definitely be treated better there."
The moment she finished speaking, I understood.
After all the unnecessary politeness, she simply wanted me out of Glamour Magazine.
And the reason was obvious.
Fabian.
A mocking smile tugged at my lips. "Ashley, are you that worried about me and Fabian?"
