"You knew I would come?" Victoria asked.
"Of course," Thalia said. "You're desperate. Lilith is the last piece of family you have left that's worth saving. You would do anything to bring her back. Cross any line. Make any deal. Even come to me."
"Will you help me?" Victoria asked.
Thalia was quiet for a long moment. Then: "That depends."
"On what?"
"On whether you're willing to hear the rest of the truth," Thalia said. "Because Victoria, there's more to the story. More about what really happened fifteen years ago. More about why the hunters attacked. More about our family and the Morvaine gift and the secret Mother died protecting."
Victoria felt ice slide down her spine. "What secret?"
"The reason we were hunted," Thalia said quietly. "The reason our family has been persecuted for generations. The reason Mother insisted we hide instead of using our power."
"Tell me," Victoria said.
