Chapter 22 - Drunk Driving? Congratulations, You’re Breaking the Law

"Dad really understands people!"

Ning Chen gave his father a big thumbs-up, then turned to his mother.

"Mom, aren't you afraid you'll actually run into a ghost?"

"If I tell you to wear it, just wear it!"

"Otherwise, wouldn't my money be wasted?"

Knowing his mother cherished money like her life, Ning Chen deliberately said that.

"I never said I wouldn't wear it!"

"Don't worry—something this expensive, I wouldn't dare take off!"

"What if I lost it?"

His mother fondled the jade pendant lovingly, smiling ear to ear.

Only after hearing her promise did Ning Chen finally relax.

To thank him for his filial heart,

his mother didn't have the heart to kick him out immediately.

She even made his father cook and prepared a full table of dishes.

The family ate lunch together.

They chatted about work, school gossip, and daily life.

His mother kept picking food for him from time to time, looking every bit the loving parent.

Ning Chen almost believed she'd had a change of heart.

But who could've guessed—

Right after eating, when he'd barely sat down on the couch and lit a cigarette with his dad—

His mother walked over, smiling brightly.

"Son! The gift's delivered, the meal's eaten!"

"Don't nitpick your mom anymore."

"In a bit, you're going back to school."

"Tonight your dad and I are having a candlelight dinner."

"You and Jiangjiang live your sweet double-life."

"Your dad and I enjoy our two-person world!"

"No mutual interference, okay?"

Ning Chen: "..."

Half an hour later.

Xuanwu District, Jiangbei Road.

A random cat café.

One man, one cat, one cup of coffee clutched to his chest.

His parents kicked their own son out so they could enjoy couple time—

Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Others might find it outrageous.

Ning Chen was already used to it.

To be fair, it wasn't that they didn't care.

They just never voiced their concern.

This kind of relationship was something most people would envy.

The main issue—

His parents' relationship was too good.

Which made him, the son, feel slightly redundant.

Being kicked out was inevitable.

Even if that person was their own kid.

"Ghost bus… ghost bus!"

"Where the hell am I supposed to find it?!"

9:00 PM.

At a bus stop somewhere—

Ning Chen stood on the curb, smoking.

He checked the time and cursed under his breath.

He'd left the café at six.

It was nine now.

Subtract dinner and buying cigarettes—

He'd waited two hours and fifteen minutes at this Route 13 terminal stop.

Forget a ghost bus.

He hadn't even seen a ghost.

"Young Master~ should we drive the spirit vehicle around instead?"

Hearing Hongdou's voice, Ning Chen took a deep drag, flicked away the cigarette butt, and exhaled hard.

"Fine—let's drive around."

"No way we came all this way for nothing."

"I don't believe we won't run into that ghost bus tonight!"

He crossed the road, planning to summon the spirit vehicle somewhere secluded.

But before he reached the crosswalk—

A blinding white light flashed beside him.

Then came an ear-splitting horn.

He turned his head—

A pink Maserati was charging straight at him.

Holy shit!

That speed had to be at least 180 km/h!

What kind of lunatic drives like that on a city street?!

If it were a normal person, they'd be dead on the spot.

Thankfully—

Ning Chen was no longer ordinary.

And earlier, he'd acquired a top-tier Confucian movement technique:

"Where There Is a Path, I Will Walk It."

Fast.

Ridiculously fast.

"Damn it!"

He cursed, stepping into an arcane footwork pattern and flashing aside at the last second.

The Maserati roared past him.

A second later—

Screeching brakes.

When he looked back, the car had stopped by the roadside.

Two long black skid marks were burned into the asphalt.

Waiting for hours without seeing a ghost had already put him in a foul mood.

Now he'd almost been run over.

His anger ignited instantly.

"Son of a bitch!"

"If I don't teach you how to be human today, my last name isn't Ning!"

Seeing no one get out of the car, Ning Chen strode over.

Golden light surged in his palm.

As he clenched his fist, it condensed into a thick golden gauntlet.

No need for finesse.

Just one punch.

BANG!

The window shattered.

He grabbed the door and yanked—

Ripping it clean off.

Only then did he see inside.

A pair of high heels lay on the passenger seat.

In the driver's seat sat a woman wearing a white blouse and a tight hip-hugging skirt from a Paris luxury brand.

Beautiful face.

Fox-like eyes.

Dark tea-colored long hair tied behind her head.

Her cheeks were flushed red.

She stared at Ning Chen in a daze, clearly not processing what was happening.

The overwhelming smell of alcohol hit him.

Ning Chen's face went black.

"Fuck!"

He tossed the door aside, dragged her out of the car, and slammed her against the hood.

Then—

SMACK!

"Drunk out of your mind and still driving?!"

SMACK!

"Don't you know 'don't drink and drive'?!"

SMACK!

"Driving recklessly—families cry in two lines of tears!"

SMACK!

"You know you're breaking the law?!"

SMACK!

...

One insult.

One slap.

Perfect rhythm.

Luckily, the road was remote.

Otherwise, a crowd would've gathered instantly.

After more than ten slaps—

The pain finally sobered her up.

She screamed.

"AHHH—!"

"You almost killed me, you know that?!"

SMACK!

"Still not awake? Then I'll keep going!"

Another slap.

"Wah—!"

"I'm awake! I'm awake!"

She hurriedly clutched her backside.

Seeing she was fully conscious, Ning Chen slapped once more for good measure, then released her.

Of course—

Purely out of habit.

She slid off the hood, wincing as she landed in her designer heels.

Her fox eyes filled with mist.

But when she saw the wrecked door, her pain was forgotten.

Drunk driving.

Speeding.

Almost hitting someone.

Golden glowing fists.

A door torn off by brute force.

The memories replayed—

Fear crept into her expression.

Ning Chen lit another cigarette, eyes cold.

"You remember everything now?"
