Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Wait and See

As Yamato and the entire Beasts Pirates continued their expedition, the massive commotion caught the attention of various powerful forces, including the overlords of the sea: the Marines.

At Marineford, the Marine Headquarters, the atmosphere grew tense. When the news arrived that Kaido was leading his crew on a massive expansion in the New World, the entire base was put on high alert.

"Kaido and his Beasts Pirates have finally started getting restless. After staying quiet in Wano Country for so many years, does he intend to dominate the New World as well?" one officer wondered aloud.

"Speaking of Kaido, he's a legend from the same era as Whitebeard and Big Mom," another replied. "His strength is exceptionally formidable. As a Mythical Zoan-type user, he's an incredibly difficult guy to deal with."

"Since the Beasts Pirates have begun expanding their territory, it's clear that Kaido's ambition is stirring. We, the Marines, must respond to this; we cannot tolerate these dangerous fellows growing any stronger!"

"But then again, the New World has always been a paradise for pirates. If we are to take action, we must carefully consider our strategy."

Upon hearing the news, many Marine officers engaged in heated discussions. In his office, Sengoku, the current Fleet Admiral, sat at his desk looking at the documents in his hand with a furrowed brow. This leader of the Marines wore his white military uniform and reading glasses, with his signature seagull perched atop his hat. Known across the seas as "Sengoku the Buddha," he was a powerhouse of the strategist type.

"Finally, has that guy started moving too? It's been over ten years since the Great Pirate Era began, and now the pirates of the New World have fully established themselves. They're becoming harder and harder to deal with," Sengoku said, rubbing his temples.

Decades ago, Kaido was just an apprentice pirate on Rocks' ship. Now that so much time has passed, Kaido's strength has undoubtedly grown to a terrifying level. In the past, Kaido had fallen into the hands of the Marines countless times, yet they could never kill him. Every time they tried, he would sink the prison ship and escape.

Although Kaido allowed himself to be captured by the Marines many times on purpose, there was one time he didn't. He had been sent to a World Government research facility, but even then, he managed to escape. Since that incident, he has never been caught again. It was also after that escape that Kaido began to grow rapidly, forming his own crew and conquering Wano Country, taking it as his private territory.

Kaido had remained settled in Wano for nearly twenty years. No one expected him to suddenly emerge to expand his borders.

"Is he influenced by Whitebeard and Big Mom? Or has he had this idea for a long time and was simply biding his time in Wano?" Sengoku mused, trying to figure out the situation. "It's likely the latter. After all, he's a man who followed Rocks; it's impossible for him to be without ambition."

"However, if the Marines act, we will inevitably clash head-on with Kaido. He isn't someone a Vice Admiral can handle, and then there's the rest of his crew. It's best to first get a clear picture of the Beasts Pirates' strength before considering whether to act. After all, things are also very tense with Whitebeard and Big Mom," Sengoku thought, arriving at a plan. As the Fleet Admiral, he couldn't just casually send a Marine fleet into the New World and hope for the best.

Bang!

Suddenly, the office door was pushed open with great force. A tall, sturdy old man walked in. His hair was almost entirely white, and despite his advanced age, he was full of energy and possessed a powerful aura. This was a legendary figure of the Marines, the Marine Hero, Vice Admiral Garp. He was also known by his famous nickname: "Iron Fist."

"Sengoku! I heard that brat Kaido is making a move?" Garp's voice was loud and full of vigor.

Sengoku looked up at him, annoyed. "Don't push the door so hard every time, Garp, you bastard!"

"Hahaha! Don't worry about such small things. Sengoku, tell me first, is it true that Kaido has taken action?" Garp sat down on the sofa of his own accord and skillfully began brewing tea.

Sengoku sighed, used to this behavior. "Yes, it's true. Over a month ago, Kaido left Wano Country with his crew. Their goal is territorial expansion. They are currently on an expedition, and I suspect they will sweep up all the islands in the waters surrounding Wano."

Garp wasn't very surprised. He took a sip of his tea and nodded. "So even Kaido has finally started moving. I'm afraid he'll soon become one of the strongest overlords of the New World."

Hearing Garp say this, Sengoku fell silent. He was thinking the same thing. As a fellow Mythical Zoan-type user, he knew exactly how powerful those abilities were. Combined with Kaido's freakish natural physical talent, he could practically be called the strongest man alive in terms of constitution. Most importantly, Kaido is not even fifty years old yet; he is in his absolute prime.

"Sengoku, what's the next step? Is the Marine Headquarters going to act?" Garp asked. After a pause, he added, "If the Marines act, I'm afraid it will turn into a major war. The battlefield would be in the New World, which is a disadvantage for us."

"Yes, the New World is currently full of troublesome characters. The Marines cannot easily make a move, and the Beasts Pirates are among the worst of them. Therefore, we will wait and see for now. Even if we are to act, we must clarify the situation first—for example, the exact combat power and numbers of Kaido's crew," Sengoku said slowly.

"True. It's dangerous to launch an operation in the New World without understanding the situation. Moreover, since Kaido is out on an expedition, they are bound to clash with other pirates. It's better to see how things play out first," Garp agreed.

"Currently, Kaido has powerful subordinates like King and Queen, and now someone named Jack has appeared. My fear is that more such troublesome fellows will continue to appear among his subordinates," Sengoku said, narrowing his eyes.

"It's not impossible, but the likelihood isn't very high. At least no monster like him has appeared among Kaido's subordinates yet. If one did, that would be the real headache," Garp laughed.

"If such a person truly appeared, that would be the worst-case scenario. We must clarify the situation of the Beasts Pirates as soon as possible," Sengoku glanced at Garp, his expression becoming serious. The unknown is the most terrifying thing.
