Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – Spending Money Like Water

Jiang Mi hadn't expected him to show up here directly. Her brows knitted tightly, and her tone turned icy."What are you doing here?"

Xue Wenxuan sneered."Jiang Mi, have you no shame? We're getting engaged tomorrow, yet here you are flirting with some wild man?"

As he spoke, his gaze fell on the extremely tall and well-built man in the black hoodie standing beside Jiang Mi.

Jiang Mi's eyes grew colder and colder as she stared at him. She didn't bother responding. Instead, she turned to the man in the black hoodie and handed him a business card."Sorry. This is my contact information. I didn't notice you earlier and ran into you. If there's any problem, please call me."

The man lowered his head to glance at the card. When his eyes landed on the four words Wanteng Group, a flicker passed through his gaze. After a moment's thought, he accepted the card and said in a low, hoarse voice,"It's fine."

After that, he glanced at Xue Wenxuan in the distance, said nothing more, and took a few steps into the elevator, leaving.

Once the man was gone, Jiang Mi didn't spare Xue Wenxuan even a sideways glance. Her face cold, she walked toward apartment 2603 and said flatly,"Since you mentioned the engagement, let me inform you now: it's canceled. You, Xue Wenxuan—get back to wherever you came from."

Xue Wenxuan's expression changed instantly. His face darkened as he shouted angrily,"Jiang Mi! Do you even know what you're saying?!"

"And one more thing," Jiang Mi continued coolly. "Over the past few years, you borrowed a total of seven million from me. On top of that, I bought you two apartments, five cars, one apartment for your parents, and apartments and cars for your younger brother and sister, plus various other gifts. Altogether, that comes to thirty-four million. I'll give you a discount—thirty million. Pay it back within a week."

As she passed him, Jiang Mi shot him a cold, mocking glance.

By now, Xue Wenxuan's face wasn't just ugly—it was livid. He roared,"Jiang Mi! Don't forget how you chased after me back then! You gave me all of that willingly. How dare you ask for it back?!"

Jiang Mi sneered.

If Xue Wenxuan hadn't deliberately set traps back then, how could she have fallen so deeply she couldn't pull herself out? She only hated that she had been blind, failing to see through his hypocritical and despicable face!

"If this is just another one of your playing-hard-to-get tricks, then Jiang Mi, I'll tell you—you've succeeded," Xue Wenxuan said, tugging at his loosened tie, suppressing his anger with a dark expression. His eyes were full of impatience."I've been a bit cold toward you lately, but that's because I've been busy preparing for our engagement ceremony. Can't you be more sensible?"

As he spoke, he reached out to pull her into his arms.

Jiang Mi's gaze turned sharp. Without the slightest hesitation, she grabbed his arm, twisted her body, and flung him hard to the ground. Then she lifted her high heel and mercilessly ground it down on his calf, her expression utterly unmoved.

Xue Wenxuan's face twisted in pain as he screamed miserably, cursing nonstop.

The commotion immediately drew the attention of the workers renovating apartment 2603. One by one, they poked their heads out to look. Even apartment 2602 next door cracked open, revealing a small, curious head peeking out.

Jiang Mi stepped on Xue Wenxuan's face and said coldly,"If you don't get lost now, I'll break your leg."

She looked with disgust at the hand that had touched him, pulled a wet wipe from her bag, wiped her hand, and casually tossed it onto his body. Looking down at him from above, she said icily,"Don't show up in front of me again. Just seeing you makes me sick."

Xue Wenxuan never imagined that the woman who had once obeyed his every word would turn into someone so ruthless and heartless. He instinctively wanted to say something, but when he met those eyes overflowing with killing intent, he swallowed hard, a chill running down his spine.

He had a feeling—if he stayed any longer, she really would do it.

Thinking this, Xue Wenxuan struggled to his feet and limped away, dragging his injured leg. But as he turned his back on Jiang Mi, his eyes were filled with deep resentment.

Bitch. I'll deal with you sooner or later!

Jiang Mi didn't have time to worry about him. She walked to the door of 2603, then tilted her head and looked toward apartment 2602, where the little head was still peeking through the crack in the door.

Raising an eyebrow, Jiang Mi deliberately put on a fierce expression, lifted her hand like a claw beside her face, and growled,"Rawr! Keep looking and I'll eat you!"

The child's wide, curious eyes instantly squeezed shut. With a pout that looked like he was about to cry, the door slammed shut with a bang.

Teasing the child lifted her mood slightly, easing the disgust Xue Wenxuan had left her with.

Entering apartment 2603, Jiang Mi saw that several workers were already back at work. They greeted her when they saw her, and she nodded in response. Her gaze fell on the already-installed floor-to-ceiling window as she asked the foreman,"I want to replace this window with something sturdier—preferably something that can withstand a Category 12 typhoon. Money isn't an issue; quality is what matters. Can it be done?"

The foreman wasn't surprised by her request. He chuckled and said,"Miss Jiang, although we do get typhoons along the coast, none have ever exceeded Category 8. This window is more than enough for normal typhoons. And a Category 12 typhoon? I've never seen one in my life, nor heard of it. If one really came, wouldn't the whole building collapse? Hahaha."

"I want it rebuilt to withstand a Category 12 typhoon, according to that standard," Jiang Mi said calmly."If that's not possible, then find a way to reinforce this entire wall."

Seeing that she was serious, the foreman hesitated."Well… rebuilding the wall definitely isn't realistic. Typhoon Julu is coming soon. If we rebuild now, the work won't set properly and might even be destroyed by the storm. As for relying on a floor-to-ceiling window to withstand a Category 12 typhoon—it's not impossible, but one or two layers won't be enough. It will definitely sacrifice aesthetics."

"I only care about safety. Put other work on hold. Can this be finished within a week?" Jiang Mi asked, calculating the time.

The foreman nodded repeatedly."As long as the materials are ready, it'll be fast!"

"Good. Then I'll leave it to you," Jiang Mi said, nodding.

"Also, replace this door lock with one that has the highest security rating. Install an additional security door—absolutely solid. And that person outside—if he comes again, throw him out immediately."

After finishing discussions about the renovation, Jiang Mi left Moon Bay Apartments, stepped on the gas, and drove straight to the outskirts of the city.

This was an air-raid shelter she had known about in her previous life. By then, there were barely any survivors left in H City. Someone had discovered this shelter and turned it into a base, gathering survivors—but those who entered lived no better than slaves. She had personally witnessed the birth of cannibals here.

Even now, recalling it sent chills down her spine.

Looking at the air-raid shelter built halfway up the mountain, Jiang Mi narrowed her eyes slightly.

"Don't let its age fool you," the agent beside her said enthusiastically. "Even though it was built last century, its safety is absolutely guaranteed…" He rambled on nonstop, afraid that this client—who looked like she had more money than sense—might run off.

"No need to explain. How much to rent it? Let's sign the contract," Jiang Mi said, not wanting to waste words.

Buying it wasn't impossible, but unnecessary. In half a month, the apocalypse would arrive. Whoever lived here then would be its true owner.

"And also—ah?" The agent froze, clearly not expecting her to be so decisive. He sized her up again, his gaze strange, then coughed lightly and said vaguely,"Miss Jiang, there used to be military forces stationed here, so if you're planning to do… certain things, it's best to be cautious…"

Jiang Mi cut him off."Nothing illegal. Don't worry."

The agent laughed awkwardly and didn't press further. He quickly pulled out the contract and a pen and handed them to her.

Three years for five hundred thousand, a thirty-thousand deposit—five hundred and thirty thousand in total. Jiang Mi swiped her card without batting an eye.
