Chapter 1 - The Mission

"Lucy Fern?"

I nodded, looking at this hot Italian man in front of me. He's 6 ft tall, with a muscular tattooed body and a beard that suits his sharp features. He is dressed in a black turtle neck sweater paired with a black trouser and a leather shoes that surely cost half my annual salary. His thick Italian accent makes him more attractive, and his overall appearance hides how dangerous he is inside.

I scanned his face, taking the features that being described to him in every secret tabloids that were given to our department.

Lorenzo Morreti.

That's his name. The name that the department is trying to haunt down silently for years. Based on what I read about him, he is a calculating man, smart enough that no one could pin a hard evidence on him leading to the big crimes on the city. He plays the game right. He is the only man who can go out freely on a broad daylight without being caught. That is how clean he works.

"Who on earth would name their child a Lucy Fern?" he asked, scanning my biodata then eyeing me suspiciously, "Is your mom a fan of lucifer or any devil thing?"

I cleared my throat and took a step forward.

The room is almost dark, with an orange pinned lights, a high book shelves and a wooden floor. The interview happened in his study room, no distractions, and very hidden. It was heavily guarded outside this door, with two men who look like a bouncer in a bar. I was actually escorted here by three men in black suits, making sure I will not go in any other way except this room.

"My documents are real, sir", I said biting my lower lip in embarrassment, "And no, she is not a fan of lucifer nor a devil thing. She's...a devoted Christian"

'Lieutenant Sam would pay for this, for making a fake name that's like this. I asked him to make my documents, for it to be believable, and how did he comes up with a name 'Lucy Fern?' I said to my mind, cursing Sam in any way I can.

He threw the biodata on the table and looked at me, calculating and cold. His eyes wandered from my head to toe, as if his looks could strip my clothes off in any moment.

But instead of getting intimidated, I act normally, like I know nothing about this high profile criminal in front of me, and I am just a maid who's in need of this position.

He nodded before throwing another question.

"Can you fight?" he suddenly asked, pouring himself a whiskey.

I shot him a curious look, like I did not expect such question to be thrown. "Fight? Like a boxing match?" I asked blinking twice "Am I…am I being sent to a competition? Like boxing? Karate?" I asked stupidly.

He almost - almost - cracked a smile, but he stopped himself and took a deep exhale, "You are as dumb as your mom who named you Lucy with a family name of Fern".

And that is when my jaw dropped instantly. I opened my mouth and closed it for a moment, still in shocked about how he just said my mom is dumb.

"Did you just say my mom is dumb?" I asked like I did not hear any of it.

He smirked and nodded, unapologetic about it while sipping his whiskey casually and staring at me. "But I can make room for such a dumb question like that. The dumber it is, the safer I am".

I chuckled bitterly in silence because of course I knew what he meant, like I am some kind of dumb maid applying for a position in his house and his secrets would be safer if I remain stupid like this.

"You'll be a stay-in maid" he said suddenly as he put the conditions on hiring me, leaving no room for arguments.

My eyes widened in shocked. This is not the plan. I needed to go out, to report, to communicate with the department. I promised the department for a regular updates and his whereabouts, but how can I use my phone if I'll be locked in here?

"I-"

He suddenly cuts me off with a hand stop sign and looked at me coldly, "I said, you will be a stay-in. Foods are on me, your uniform, your room. I hate bringing someone in and letting them out of my mansion easily".

I swallowed, and took a moment to think. I exhaled roughly and found myself nodding at this point. This was never the plan, the mission that General Kim gave me is to disguise as a maid and go out to give him updates, not a maid who's taking a vacation inside a mob's house.

I sighed as I knew this is the only chance to earn his trust, before someone else do it.

"When will I start?" I asked hesitantly while playing with my fingers nervously on my back

He stood up on his feet, moving over the desk and walked towards me. His aura is demanding, controlling, and you will feel the second his scent lingers to your nose is that he's a man who's never caught red-handed for years.

"You'll start now, Lucy Fern"
