Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Lily’s Dragon Dream & The Stone “Monster”

"I want to draw a proper pseudo-legendary!"

Lily suddenly shot to her feet, her tone firm and resounding. Her delicate face was filled with determination.

This time—

She was serious.

She couldn't keep falling behind!

If this continued, even the Rookies would surpass her!

Unacceptable!

"Okay, okay!"

Ren was visibly moved by her passion. With solemn ceremony, he handed over the Store Manager Pokédex.

What conviction!

How inspiring!

Burn, youthful spirit!

"Dratini, Bagon, Deino! Dratini, Bagon, Deino!! DRATINI, BAGON, DEINO!!!"

Holding the Pokédex, Lily began chanting like a ritual priestess.

"Before coming here, I even went home to shower! I'm at my purest and most radiant state right now!"

Her expression was tragic.

If this didn't work—

She might as well burn incense and pray to the heavens!

"Go!"

She pressed the button.

Luna and Lucy leaned closer, watching curiously.

Emma folded her arms, looking at Lily with blatant skepticism.

One draw.

Nothing.

Two draws.

Nothing.

Three draws.

Still nothing.

Four.

Five.

Silence.

Then—

"Ooooooooooooooo—!"

Under everyone's strange stares, Lily collapsed dramatically into Emma's arms.

"Emma treasure! This isn't real! This can't be real!"

Mind shattered.

Five pulls.

Three Catterpie.

Three!

"I'm trash!"

"This is so unfair!"

Emma blinked, then gently patted Lily's head with an expression full of sympathy.

"There, there."

But slowly—

A satisfied smile curled at Emma's lips.

Yes.

Comfortable.

Very comfortable.

Dongshan Quarry

"Old Qin, be careful today. I heard things haven't been right here lately."

A bearded middle-aged worker spoke quietly to the bald man holding a mining pick.

"What now?"

The bald man flicked away his cigarette.

"In the last two days, stones have been disappearing. And Old Xu didn't come today. He said he saw a monster in the cave yesterday afternoon."

"Seriously?"

The bald man looked unconvinced.

What era is this?

Monsters?

Should he expect Ultraman next?

"I'm not joking! When Old Xu ran out, he was pale as a ghost! Said the monster was hundreds of thousands of meters long! Covered in stone! Eyes as big as lanterns!"

"He even said it swallowed a ten-meter boulder in one bite!"

The bearded man spoke gravely, as if recounting a legend.

"Old Wang… our mountain is only a few hundred meters tall."

The bald man rolled his eyes and put on his helmet.

Hundreds of thousands of meters?

If something that big existed, the mountain would be gone.

It's 2202.

Reject superstition!

Reject nonsense!

"Cough… I'm just repeating what he said. Still, better to be careful."

Old Wang called after him.

The bald man waved dismissively and walked into the cave.

Inside, it was dim.

"Stone monster… yeah right…"

He chuckled to himself.

Though… come to think of it, fewer rocks had been transported recently.

Strange.

But that wasn't his problem.

He reached the quarry cart.

Then—

"Huh?"

Out of the corner of his eye—

He thought he saw stones moving around the bend.

Moving.

Disappearing.

His scalp tingled.

And then—

A low, heavy rumbling echoed deeper inside.

"Hello? Anyone there?"

The miner's lamp flickered against the walls. Sweat formed on his forehead.

Silence.

No response.

After a while, the noise stopped.

He forced a laugh.

"See? What monster? I scared myself."

Blame Old Wang and his nonsense stories.

But just as he relaxed—

He froze.

From around the corner—

A massive stone head slowly emerged.

Two enormous eyes locked directly onto his.

Silence.

The world stopped.

The bald man's brain went blank.

The head was round. Horned. Made entirely of rock.

And it was alive.

His legs trembled violently.

Fear?

Yes.

Pure fear.

"Help—HELP!!! THERE'S A MONSTER!!!"

His scream tore through the cave as he scrambled toward the exit, stumbling and crawling.

He fell.

He didn't dare look back.

He ran.

Finally—

Sunlight!

He burst out of the cave, panting violently.

"Huh? Lao Qin? What's wrong with you?"

A curious voice sounded.

Standing there were his boss, Jason—

And beside him, a young man in a suit.

Lucas.

The bald man recognized him. Important background. Jason treated him with extreme respect.

But none of that mattered.

"Boss! We can't mine here anymore! There's a monster inside!"

Jason frowned.

Lucas's eyelids twitched slightly.

"Monster? Did you drink again, Qin? How many times have I told you—"

"I didn't drink! There's really a monster!"

He gestured wildly.

"I saw its head! All stone! At least ten meters big! Its eyes are bigger than a car! Its mouth is like a tunnel!"

"Boss… did we anger the mountain god?"

Jason's face darkened.

Ten meters?

Eyes bigger than a car?

What kind of visual estimation is that?!

Lucas, meanwhile, looked like he was trying very hard not to laugh.

"That's not a monster," Jason said with a stiff expression.

"That's Young Master Lucas's pet."

The bald man blinked.

"…Huh?"

Pet?

Inside the cave—

A massive rock serpent slowly slithered back into the shadows.

Onix.
