Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: A Truly Massive Pokémon

The word handsome actually had a very broad meaning. After all, everyone's sense of aesthetics was different, and it was hard to define a single standard.

But at this moment, Miya genuinely didn't know what words to use to describe the Pokémon displayed in the Pokédex.

"Boss… what Pokémon is this?"

Lucas's eyes were shining as well. Staring at the image in the Pokédex, he turned to ask Ren.

"Let me take a look—oh," Ren said after a glance. "That's Onix."

"It's a Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon, considered a large-sized Pokémon."

After a moment of thought, Ren looked at Lucas with a somewhat strange expression.

A Rock-type Pokémon… and one with Onix's size…

There was no doubt about it—this thing would eat a lot. He just wasn't sure whether Lucas was ready for that.

"Rock-type again…"

Lucas's eyelid twitched.

Why was he so inexplicably tied to Rock-types?

"A large Pokémon?" Miya asked curiously. "Boss, how big is Onix?"

Lucas was curious as well. So far, the Pokémon drawn by others—like Emma's—were all quite small, barely half a meter tall at most. Probably because they were all in their initial forms.

"The size of Onix varies from individual to individual," Ren explained. "Its body length and mass can change depending on nutrition, development, or even special traits from birth."

"But according to standard data, an Onix can reach nine meters in length and weigh over two hundred kilograms."

"Hiss—"

Miya covered her mouth and sucked in a sharp breath.

Nine meters? Over two hundred kilograms?

"That's… huge."

Lucas was equally stunned.

Good grief—no wonder it was called Onix.

"And that's only the standard size," Ren continued with a smile. "After Onix evolves, it becomes even larger and heavier. Its final evolved form, Steelix, can even Mega Evolve in the future."

"At that point, it would truly be a monster—at least in a certain sense."

Steelix was a Ground- and Steel-type Pokémon, known for its terrifying weight and defensive power.

After Mega Evolution, Steelix's standard length reached 10.5 meters.

And that was still just the baseline.

Anyone who had watched Pokémon battles knew that individual Pokémon could differ greatly in size. With proper training, exceeding standard measurements was completely normal.

Steelix was, without question, a genuine steel monster.

"Boss," Lucas said, licking his lips as his heartbeat sped up, "can I see the Onix in person first?"

"Of course," Ren nodded. "But the space inside the shop isn't suitable for Onix. Please wait a moment."

He glanced around the shop. Although the interior was spacious, it still couldn't accommodate something as massive as an Onix.

Turning around, Ren headed toward the backyard. Only the open space there would be suitable.

"Please, both of you—Onix is ready."

A minute later, Ren returned and gestured toward the back.

Lucas and Miya immediately followed him.

Beyond the door was the same battlefield where they had fought earlier—but now, a gigantic figure stood quietly in the center.

"Oh—!"

Miya instinctively looked up, eyes wide with shock.

Lucas's gaze burned with excitement.

Onix's entire body was composed of massive gray stone segments connected together. A long rocky horn rose from its head, and its dark eyes quietly observed the two humans.

Big.

Really big.

People living in a modern metropolis were used to seeing skyscrapers—but this was completely different.

Because the Onix in front of them was alive.

The oppressive sense of scale coming from a living creature was deeply shocking. Anyone who had stood close to a massive elephant in a zoo could understand the feeling—especially those with megalophobia, who might even feel their legs go weak.

And this Onix was far larger than an elephant.

Nine meters wasn't just a number.

If you measured it by floors—three meters per floor—it was equivalent to a three-story building.

With a faint grinding sound of stone rubbing against stone, Onix lowered its head slightly and looked at Lucas and Miya with mild curiosity.

"Don't be nervous," Ren said with a smile, noticing their tense bodies. "Although Onix is very large, it's actually quite gentle. As long as it isn't provoked, it's easy to get along with."

"Haha… guess," Lucas said awkwardly. "But this really is something."

Seeing Onix up close for the first time had honestly made him nervous.

But now that he looked at it more carefully…

"Boss!"

Lucas's eyes lit up. "I want this one!"

He liked this massive Pokémon far too much.

As for his original plan of drawing a Flying-type Pokémon, he had completely forgotten it.

How could a Flying-type compare to such a handsome giant?

Besides, this was his last draw of the day anyway.

"No problem," Ren replied with a smile. "Onix costs 250,000."

Onix wasn't particularly rare, but its current combat strength was far from low—easily comparable to a second-stage Pokémon like Charmeleon.

"Swipe the card."

Lucas took out his bank card naturally and then raised the Pokédex.

[Onix — Rock Snake Pokémon]

Type: Rock / Ground

Ability: Rock Head

Moves: Rock Throw, Tackle, Harden, Bind, Slam

It burrows through the ground at astonishing speed. The tunnels it leaves behind are often used as homes by Diglett.

Lucas's eyes lit up with delight.

Five moves right from the start!

Ren wasn't surprised. Pokémon drawn from the shop's system pool were all beginner-level, but the number of moves depended entirely on the individual Pokémon.

In that sense, Onix had a natural advantage.

"I'll be your Trainer from now on, Onix," Lucas said with a gentle smile. "Let's become stronger together."

Sensing Lucas's goodwill, Onix let out a low rumble and slowly lowered its head toward him.

Was it… asking to be touched?

"It really is gentle," Lucas murmured.

He reached out and stroked Onix's rough, rocky head, feeling the coarse texture beneath his palm.

Despite its massive size, Onix's temperament was indeed peaceful.
