Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

"Who will drive who?" Zama asked.

"You done kissing your man there, sisi!" Zee said as we laughed.

"Drive me back home, my love. They're talking about me," I said to Zama.

"Oh okay, kanene a wife doesn't sleep without her husband," Zama said.

"You got it sana!" Trish added.

We laughed and I stood up. "Let me go to the bathroom," I said. My bladder was full.

I walked back into the house to the toilet and released. The music was not as loud as it was outside, and a song by Mlindo Emakhaya was playing as I washed my hands. I admired myself in the mirror, moving my head a bit and feeling the vibe. I couldn't stop smiling, and the wine was to blame. I walked out of the toilet and looked up. I saw him, and suddenly my breathing pattern was at a loss.

"Lioness," Wayne said.

I blinked multiple times, my brain going all fuzzy like there was a malfunction. The noise got louder outside as another song began to play.

"Hello," I said. I couldn't help but smile.

"You really should stop looking at me like that," he said.

"How am I looking at you?" I asked.

"Like you want me," he replied.

Oh, straight like that.

"I am married, and besides, I just got off a phone call with my husband, which is why I still have a smile pasted on my face. It's not for you," I said.

Yes, that'll put him off. He chuckled and shook his head.

"What!?" I asked.

He took both my hands and held them. He took a step closer, leaning over to reach my ears. I inhaled his scent; it was not a perfume or cologne, it was something of nature, like herbs. It was refreshing and calm. I loved it.

"You are wearing a dress without pockets and your hands are not holding a cellphone like a person who just got off a phone call," he whispered.

Oh, busted! He moved back, still holding my hands, and looked at my flushed face.

"It doesn't prove that I want you," I said. This wine was making me weak.

"Still, stop searching for me with your eyes, okay," he said.

"I wasn't," I replied.

"Don't lie," he said. I just shook my head. "If you were not lying, your body would stop getting tense. You are a bad liar too."

"I am not tense," I insisted. He smiled again.

"Madlomo, I am holding your hands and I can feel you. I wouldn't be able to explain it to you, but I feel a lot of tension in you. I easily connected with your soul or if that is a big word, let's just stick to energy," he said.

"Maybe the tension is caused by the pain inside me. Let's say you easily connected because you ought to heal me," I said.

"That depends on you and your belief," he replied.

"Meaning?" I asked.

"If you believe I can heal you, then it will be that way. But for now, stop drooling over me," he said.

"Stop saying I am drooling over you. I was just amazed to see you here," I told him.

"If you say so, Lioness," he said. He let go of my hands and smiled, then walked away from where we were standing.

He left me caught between thoughts and smiles over what had just transpired between us.
