Chapter 14 - The Heart Awakens

"What's gonna happen when we arrive?"

I asked Toki on our way.

"Where are we even going?"

"To the Heart Tree! But this time the tree is our challenge. The Forest already knows we have four pieces, and the fifth piece hides in the Core. When you touch the Core with your right hand, the tree.... dissapears. But you and Kai, if you're connected, both swap back."

Toki explained, jumping from tree to tree. (that always reminds me of a squirrel, why isn't she a squirrel??)

"What about touching it with left hand?"

"Then... You dissapear.."

"Oh... And if the tree dissapears, the forest dissapears too?"

Kai decided to join the conversation.

"I think another tree will become a heart because a forest can't be without a heart and such a powerful magic can't dissapears, either."

Toki thought.

"I'm not sure what will happen, but you can be right!"

Then she froze.

"But... When it'll work, will you still remember me?"

Silence.

"Of course we will— HUH"

me and Kai accidentally said at the same time. We looked at each other.

"Stop it!! No, YOU stop it!!"

Toki giggled.

"Alright, I believe you! But I'll really miss you, you all are my very first friends..."

"Aww.. We'll miss you too. But don't worry, Snow and Rosy will be still here!"

"Talking about us..."

Rosy said, then she did puppy eyes.

"Will you never forget us?"

"Yeah!"

Snow added, doing puppy eyes too.

"We'll remember you all!"

I said, hugging them all.

After a cute hug moment, we finally arrived. Toki threw away a few bushes in our way, revealing the Heart Tree in front of us.

"Alright... What is the Core?" I whispered to Toki beside me.

"It's the wood. Touch it with the right hand. Avoid its punches. Do not fight back. This is your moment."

Toki whispered back, ready for anything.

I was supposed to be ready too, but to be honest, I was kinda nervous heheheheh...

But it was too late, Toki pushed me there.

Heart Tree noticed me.

Oh no.

The tree's branches went right to punch me, but luckily, I quickly dodged it and tried to run right to the Core.

But branches kept coming, and I kept dodging.

I thought it'll be forever like this!

"Oh, c'mon! Ignore the branches! Just run to the Core!"

Toki yelled from the distance.

So I did.

I leaped through one branch.

Second branch.

Third branch.

I raised my right hand—

But a fourth branch grabbed my waist—

And threw me on the core on my LEFT hand.

The last thing I remember was hearing everyone screaming my name, and then—

Everything went white.
