I mentioned that Adam and I learned new arcane spells, well the first time we were ever able to utilize them in action happened the next day. Heading to dinner Adam and I were walking back to the cafeteria and had just exited the dorm when we heard Abby's voice screaming. Then we heard Maddy's voice as well as some laughs.
We made it to the back of the dorms and then heard Maddy scream for help. Both of us rushed forward into the woods behind the dorm expecting to find Maddy and Abby in trouble. The screams seemed to get closer as we ran, Adam had a look of worry on his face, I would imagine mine matched his. We entered into a clearing that seemed to be a dead end as a large cliff blocked our path forward just past the clearing.
We stopped as soon as we saw the group at the base of the cliff. Abby was being held down by two guys as two others were holding down her wolf who was growling through a muzzle that was on her mouth. One of the boys was holding a knife to the throat of the wolf telling Abby to shut up or the wolf will be silenced. Abby knew her wolf wouldn't die but didn't want to lose her wolf for a day to recover. Abby was furious and flailing in the arms of the two that were holding her.
Maddy was being held back as well by two third years. They were egging her on to bring out her faery so they could play with it. Then we noticed Devin standing in the middle talking to a group of six other guys. All in all there were eleven to the two of us, to me it was fair odds, to them they thought it would be slaughter. I guess they were right, it was a slaughter.
It's one thing to mess with someone thinking that you have the upper hand, it's another to be proven completely wrong in that assessment. Devin didn't even see us coming as Adam held back nothing. He blinked in before I even registered all that was happening. With his machete he chopped the hands off the two beast masters holding Abby in two quick swings. Abby lunged at the beast master holding a knife to her wolf's throat. The beast master had been startled by Adam's sudden appearance that he didn't react in time as Abby grabbed the knife and in one motion stabbed him in the neck.
Abby was trembling in rage standing over the kid who was dying. The realization that she had killed someone hadn't set in but she was frozen staring at the kid knowing he was her first. She suddenly puked all over the kid as her nervous system was overwhelmed. No one had seen her kill the kid but that didn't change the fact that we were fighting for our lives now that the arena wasn't going to save us. The third years standing with Devin saw the dead kid being puked on and it scared the crap out of them causing them to flee.
Adam didn't hold back either after chopping the hands off the two he moved onto the ones holding Maddy which they quickly let go of her seeing their friends hands removed. Maddy then ran towards me as quickly as she could to get away from the third years who had grabbed her. Maddy came running up to me and got behind me before she looked back at the scene that was happening. Abby was still puking her head off, Adam was scaring the third years away as they tried to collect the hands removed.
"Those hands are mine now, be glad I didn't take your lives." Adam roared at the fleeing third years as he stood above the four severed hands. Devin had already retreated which frustrated Adam the most. I know I sent multiple arcane missiles at him and I am pretty sure I hit his leg on my last attempt as he ran. My chain lighting arrow hit the last two fleeing causing them to stop which made the others yell at them to hurry up.
Adam turned and approached Abby who was still struggling taking in the scene of her first kill. Adam patted her back and whispered something to her that he never told me what he said. I think it was the beginning of their relationship even though they claim to start dating much later in life. Dante was off to the side eating the hands left behind, giving the entire scene a strange atmosphere, or at least different to say the least.
Maddy had been hugging me from behind and I didn't realize that she was still terrified till I felt her tremble against me. I turned around to look at her and her face was that of exhaustion and relief. She looked at me then at her friend and whispered "Poor Abby, I can't imagine what she just went through". Then she buried her head in my chest before continuing.
"I don't know how you got here so quickly but I thought for sure they were going to do awful things to us. The way they were treating Lacy made me want to kill that kid. I don't blame Abby for killing him, but what do we do now? Is Abby going to get in trouble for this?" Maddy blurted out at me, not really giving me a chance to respond to any of the questions.
"It's ok, you are safe now, let's first just get back to our rooms to get the hell away from this spot." I mentioned as I saw Adam and Abby gathering their composure and walking our way away from that area as well. As we walked Abby told Adam about how they were breaking Lacy's legs, her lightning wolf. I could literally see the anger build in his eyes as she spoke, it was frightening but understandable. Torturing a beast master's pet was considered a hideous crime especially at the school.
Teachers came rushing up to us and seeing all the blood on Abby they asked us what happened. Not sure why it fell on me but I spoke up after an awkward silence "Professor, Abby's wolf was tortured by third year students. We heard Abby and Maddy screaming from where both were being held against their will and one of them was holding a knife to her wolf's throat. We quickly freed the girls and the culprit for torturing the wolf will be found back there." I bluntly stated while pointing with my head towards the dead body.
The professors gasped seeing the dead body and told us to stay where we were but it was as if we no longer cared about what they had to say as all four of us kept walking back to our rooms. All four of us just sat up on our beds in my room not speaking, just staring off into the void while both of the girls shivered in our arms leaning into each of us.
