Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The Library of the First Blade

Chapter 19: The Library of the First Blade

The air around the crystalline door began to vibrate at a frequency that made the very sand on the ground dance in geometric patterns. Carson placed his palm against the cold, pulsing surface. He didn't use force; he used "Symphony."

He allowed his 30 strands of Qi to resonate with the symbols on the door. One by one, the etchings began to glow with a brilliant, blinding silver.

"Decoding the Prime-Saber Sequence," Aura announced. "90%... 95%... 100%. Lock bypassed. Welcome, Heir of the First Blade."

The massive doors didn't swing open; they dissolved into a cloud of glowing particles. Beyond the threshold lay not a dusty tomb, but a vast, cathedral-like space that seemed to exist outside of time. The walls were lined with thousands of "Memory-Crystals," each one containing the life's work of a Sovereign from an era before the Hegemony existed.

In the center of the hall, floating atop a pillar of pure light, was a single object: A hilt without a blade.

The Core of the First Blade.

"Don't touch it!"

A new voice echoed through the chamber. Carson turned to see a figure stepping out of the shadows of the library's pillars. It was a man who looked exactly like the statues in the Solaris capital—High Inquisitor Malphas, a Level 14 Peak and the man responsible for the "Silence Strike" that had killed Vane.

Malphas wasn't like the other Inquisitors. He carried no weapon. He didn't need one. His very presence caused the air in the library to ignite in tiny, white sparks.

"That Core is the property of the Emperor," Malphas said, his voice smooth and terrifyingly calm. "You have done well to open the door for us, boy. For that, I will grant you a quick death. I will even let the girl live as a servant in the capital."

Maya, who had crawled toward the entrance of the library, looked up with a glimmer of hope. "A servant? In the capital?" Her old greed flickered for a second, even in her terror.

Carson didn't even look at her. He kept his eyes on Malphas. "The Emperor has enough toys. This one belongs to the man who can hold it."

Carson moved toward the pillar. Malphas moved faster.

The two Level 14 Sovereigns collided in the center of the hall. The shockwave of their meeting didn't just shake the library; it rippled outward, flattening the sandstorm for ten miles around the Richat Structure.

It was a battle of "Concepts." Malphas fought with the Concept of Order—every strike he made was an attempt to freeze Carson's Qi, to bind him in a cage of absolute law. Carson fought with the Concept of Flow—every movement was an adaptation, a refusal to be captured by the "Order" of the Hegemony.

"You are talented," Malphas hissed as they locked hands, the energy between them creating a miniature sun. "But you are solo. The Hegemony is a billion souls. You cannot cut a forest with a single blade!"

"I don't need to cut the forest," Carson gritted his teeth, his 30 strands of Qi beginning to glow with a terrifying, white-hot intensity. "I just need to cut the heart."

Carson kicked Malphas back and lunged for the hilt on the pillar.

[Cliffhanger:] As Carson's fingers closed around the hilt of the First Blade, the library didn't just glow—it screamed. A 31st strand of Qi, pure and primordial, erupted from the hilt and shot directly into Carson's heart.
