Amara's POV :
Adrian Cross walked toward our table with Jessica Sinclair on his arm and she was even more beautiful up close. Tall with blonde hair that fell in perfect waves and a red dress that fit like it was made for her, moving like someone who knew everyone was watching.
Roman's hand tightened around his wine glass.
"Roman," Adrian said when they reached us with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "What a surprise."
"Adrian." Roman didn't stand or smile back.
"And this must be Amara Reyes." Adrian looked at me. "The journalist."
"Former journalist," I said.
"Right. Those photos caused quite a stir, didn't they?" His smile got wider. "Unfortunate timing."
Jessica's eyes moved between Roman and me like she was studying something. "You didn't mention you were seeing someone, Roman."
"I don't tell you anything anymore, Jessica."
