Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: VIOLIN AND MASK

10. BROOK'S VIOLIN (FULL SET)

Lili looked at the rewards he had drawn. With his usual uninterested expression, he muttered, "Even a dildo and milk can come out of the roulette… I wouldn't be surprised anymore if a shit appeared from the system."

"Oh… the draws are ordinary and personal items… but I think I hit a jackpot this round. Oni mask… a great deal for me. Just seeing this body's fucking face makes me somewhat feel like I'm staring at a love-struck bitch. I think this is the best roll I've had so far… Shanks' left arm? Isn't this the arm that Eel shit had eaten… I guess I'll keep it as a collection. Oh, a newspaper from One Piece… I'm quite curious about that. Then a suit of Hina—the Hina who always says 'Hina' when she talks… some desserts… and a carrot, which is salty… probably also wet… and my tenth draw… a vi-o-lin. At least days won't be boring anymore; I can waste some time… Merzzy, you really do play tricks, don't you… you gave me a full-set violin. Do you really want to hear me play so much? Well, like I care… so no power-ups for now. I guess my confession didn't work… or maybe someone got jealous and rigged the roulette.

"Well, there's no loss on my part… Shakky gave me the oni mask—I want to cover this body's stupid face."

Materializing Yamato's oni mask.

Lili heard Shakky's voice, and in front of him, an oni mask materialized.

He grabbed it while it hovered in the air.

Then, slowly, he put on the mask. Covering his face, he felt a sense of disgust.

The oni mask looked pale, its demonic face featuring a wide, leering mouth revealing sharp fangs and bulging metallic eyes. Two sharp, bull-like horns protruded from the top. A long, wild blue wig formed a massive mane, and a matching long blue goatee hung from the chin. The mask was designed to look frighteningly angry when viewed straight on, but sorrowful or pained when tilted downward.

After Lili put on the mask, he felt a sense of comfort settle over him, as if this were the right thing, at the right place, and the right time. Then, he asked the system to materialize Brook's violin—he wanted to see what kind of material it was made from, its stories, and its mysteries.

Brook's Violin Materializing

In front of Lili, the violin appeared. His pale, long fingers wrapped around its neck and fingerboard. He held it loosely, without tightening his grip. With his calm, bored, deep hoarse voice, he asked, "Where's the bow, Shakky?"

Before him, an item materialized. It wasn't made of wood, plastic, or iron—it was a long, purple cane.

Lili's voice remained cold as he murmured, "Oh… I see. Brook uses his sword-cane as a bow in the anime… so the full set means this: his cane as bow, the violin as pair. Both can be used musically—or offensively."

His expression was hidden behind the oni mask, but his voice betrayed a spark of interest. He grabbed the purple cane with his right hand, holding it by the arc-shaped hilt. He felt its texture, tracing it along with the violin under his fingers. Closing his eyes, he whispered, "Deadly… loss… sorrow… mourn… and promise… so this is your music, your passion…"

Slowly, Lili opened his eyes. He positioned his left hand on the violin's neck, resting the instrument neatly on his upper shoulder near the clavicle. With his right hand, he lifted the cane, brushing off any dust, and adjusted his grip like a professional. Every finger, every placement was precise, as if he had mastered the technique for years.

Then, he pressed the bow against the strings. One unhurried swipe. The sound of the violin echoed through the forest. Lili whispered softly, "Perfecto."

He closed his eyes, letting the forest breeze brush past him. His left-hand fingers found their places on the fingerboard; his right-hand fingers guided the bow. He exhaled and played. His movements were rhythmic, solemn, precise. Every note carried emotion, as though the forest itself had paused to listen.

The violin sang through iconic works, but it was Paganini's 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, especially No. 24, that drew Lili's full attention. Each note, each rapid arpeggio, each daring shift of position was executed with effortless precision. It wasn't about showing off or creating an effect for anyone—it was entirely his own feeling, his own mastery manifesting through the instrument.

The music flowed from him naturally, unforced, as if the violin had always been an extension of his body. He wasn't performing for anyone, nor was he conjuring power through it—the brilliance lay solely in his skill, in the absolute control and understanding of the violin. To him, it was simply music, perfected through years of intuition and experience, nothing more, nothing less.
