Chapter 3 - The Staring Eyes and the Coolest Night ①

Ever since that day, I haven't been able to stop watching Kajikun.

Well… we are classmates, after all. It'd be impossible not to know the name of someone you see every single day.

His name is Tanikaze Kaji.[谷風 梶]

A name that sounds like wind passing quietly through a valley—calm on the surface, yet hiding something deeper underneath.

Kajikun is the type of guy who stands out even when he's doing absolutely nothing. Even if you're not trying to look at him, your eyes just drift his way. He always sits by the window, quiet and composed, rarely talking, rarely laughing, hardly showing emotion.

But when you look closely, every movement feels deliberate.Even the way he tilts his head…Even the way he lifts a hand to touch his glasses…

It's like he's waiting for the perfect moment every time.

And there's one more thing the entire class knows about him.

His grades.

They're… strange.

Strange in a way that shouldn't be possible.

Math, Japanese, science, PE—Kajikun always gets exactly fifty points. Every subject. Every test. Every time.

Never forty-nine. Never fifty-one. Not even decimals.

At first, everyone thought it was just coincidence. Then the second time happened. Then the third. After that, people started whispering. And eventually, it became a school legend.

"Is he doing it on purpose?""Did he somehow bribe the teachers?""Maybe he's actually a genius who doesn't want attention?"

Honestly, doing something like that draws more attention than anything else.

But no one had the courage to ask him directly—and Kajikun himself seemed completely uninterested in his scores.

When teachers handed back exams, everyone else reacted—cheering, groaning, stressing out.

Kajikun just glanced at the number on his paper and gave a small nod.

Like—

[Yeah… according to plan.]

As if fifty points were the result he'd worked for.

No matter how hard I try, I can't forget the sight of Kajikun standing in the rain that day.

And that's why…

Tonight, I've been zoning out in front of my computer for who knows how long.

All the lights in my room are off except for the glow of the monitor.A microphone stands in front of me.Headphones press tightly over my ears.

And on the screen—

A bright blue-haired avatar smiles at the viewers.

My real name is Yuki Akane. But my other self is "Run"—my internet persona. The version of me who talks more, smiles more, and doesn't have to worry about anyone recognizing my face.

"Hellooo~! It's Ruuuun~!"

My voice rings out as the blue-haired character on screen waves energetically.

"It's raining super hard today, isn't it? Did everyone stay dry~?"

Comments flood in.

—Rain's crazy—Run don't go outside—The rain vibes are nice

I laugh softly, but in my mind…

One guy keeps overlapping everything.

"…Um, today Run has something kinda weird to talk about."

On screen, Run tilts her head slightly, like she's about to share a secret.

"So… there's this guy at my school. And he's, like… straight out of a manga."

The chat starts popping off.

—Main character!?—Super cool guy!?—Mysterious dude!?

"N-no! Not that kind of protagonist!"

I rush to deny it, even as my heart starts racing.

"He helped someone, you know. And when he does something… it's like the whole world is waiting for him to say one line."

That scene flashes back into my mind.

The red light. The rain. The speeding car.And that hand reaching out without hesitation.

"…And then he stood like this."

Without thinking, I raise my hand toward the camera.

On screen, Run copies the pose.

"And then the car stopped! He saved a kid and an old man. It was amazing!"

—That's insanely cool—He's totally the hero—Run you're totally into him lol

"I-I'm not!"

My face burns red as I wave my hands frantically. On screen, blue-haired Run shakes her head just as dramatically.

But deep down…

I really can't deny it.

Tanikaze Kajikun…

Do you even realizethat everything you domakes my heart race like crazy?
