"Mm… the amount of Chakra you have now is about Jonin level."
Vegapunk glanced at a control screen on the Training Pod and said, "Not bad Chakra volume, though your adaptability to Space-Time Chakra energy is still rather low."
"There isn't even a Space-Time attribute in Chakra!"
Sara couldn't help retorting, "Don't think I'm clueless just because I'm not a Ninja. I've only ever heard of the five nature transformations—Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lightning. I've never heard of any Space-Time attribute Chakra!"
The so-called Space-Time adaptability training inside the Training Pod left Sara not only physically exhausted but also dizzy and disoriented. Those bizarre Chakra formulas gave her a sensation ten times worse than the worst seasickness, and that was what she found unbearable.
"To be precise, it should be the seven nature transformations: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning, Yin, and Yang."
Hearing Sara's words, Vegapunk couldn't help but explain:
"But Chakra does possess a certain Space-Time property. It's derived from Chakra that has been transformed by various Space-Time Ninjutsu, then reverted and refined. In theory it isn't pure Space-Time, yet through this Chakra a Ninja can indeed increase adaptability to Space-Time Ninjutsu."
"All right, Space-Time adaptability training is over. Time to boost your perception!"
As he spoke, Vegapunk produced a helmet, and Sara's face turned ghastly.
"Can I rest? I feel like my brain's about to explode—I really can't take it anymore. This is my limit…"
"What you think is your limit isn't your real limit. Only by training at that supposed limit can you raise your ceiling!"
"Whether it's physical training, mental training, or what we're doing now, one minute at the edge of your limit beats an hour of ordinary training. Enough talk—let's start perception training!"
While speaking, Vegapunk snapped the helmet onto Sara's head, and she instantly fell silent.
This method of stimulating the brain to increase mental power and thus perception was hardly specialized; it was the most basic of all perception drills.
Vegapunk feared that overly specific guidance might shift Sara's ability away from its original path. Originally focused on sensing the Dragon Veins, if it were replaced by generic Chakra sensing it would be a terrible waste, so only this fundamental strengthening could be used.
Before Sara could control the Dragon Veins, Vegapunk had no intention of studying them. The Dragon Veins' power was still unsettled and sealed; to study them he would have to break the seal, and once broken, who knew what era he might be flung into?
He performed no bodily modifications on Sara for the same reason: if tampering destroyed her bloodline and she lost her ability to sense the Dragon Veins, it would be the idiocy of buying the casket and returning the pearl.
In the blink of an eye a month passed. Without any bodily modification, but with the black-tech training of a super-scientist like Vegapunk, Sara's innate talent was fully developed.
As her talent awakened, Vegapunk finally understood what path Sara was meant to walk. In the terms of certain xianxia novels, she should be a formation master or a feng-shui adept.
Pinpoint Dragon Veins, gather feng-shui, kill foes with arrays, and cultivate through various formations—this was likely the way of her ancestors in ancient times.
Now, even without any knowledge, Sara could instinctively see the illusory flow of ley lines in the earth. With her power she could influence terrain, gather feng-shui, and turn desert into oasis.
Of course, that was the limit. Influencing earth and water veins to converge and slowly evolve into mountains or lakes would take several years.
Without Vegapunk, Sara with this awakened ability would have become a national treasure of the Land of Wind, her importance countless times greater than Pakura the Kazekage.
Unfortunately, Vegapunk was here. Compared to Sara creating one large oasis at most over several years, Vegapunk could alter the Land of Wind's climate and turn it fertile in the same time, making her ability far less significant.
Still, Sara was quite satisfied; with this power, finding a homeland for her people would be effortless.
"How marvelous—so much energy flows within the earth. The so-called Dragon Veins must be condensed from that energy!"
Sara sat quietly on the ground, sensing the planet's endless inner cycles, her face lighting with understanding. "Perhaps the Dragon Veins of Rōran were formed by our ancestors using ley-line energy. Sadly, we descendants can barely sense and control that power—far inferior to our forebears."
Even Vegapunk looked regretful. As a scientist he had no prejudice against supernatural power; science is essentially dialectical thinking, and once the laws of any supernatural force are grasped, they can be integrated into science.
To Vegapunk, a profession like Sara's formation master had extremely high compatibility with science. If he could obtain that legacy, he might well develop powerful scientific arrays or methods to cultivate using planetary energy.
No—given his personality, developing such ability would be only natural. What Vegapunk most wanted was, of course, scientific cultivation immortality!
"At any rate, our initial goal is achieved. Your control over the Dragon Veins should be much stronger now. Can you calm them?"
Hearing this, Sara frowned slightly. "I can't be sure. The Dragon Veins' power is simply too vast. Looking back, I can't imagine how such force was ever gathered. Were our ancestors truly that mighty?"
Vegapunk had no answer. A thousand years ago, the cultivation system might have been far less universal and populous than the chakra system, yet the heights it could reach might not be inferior.
The only thing Vegapunk could be certain of was that, however strong that ancient system was, it couldn't surpass Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and Ōtsutsuki Isshiki—otherwise those native powerhouses would not have perished.
