Chapter 2 - Shadows in the hall

The early morning light filtered through the tall windows of Vale Corporation, bouncing off the polished floors. Colin adjusted the strap of his bag nervously, walking past the rows of sleek desks and softly humming computers. Today was his first real day as an employee not as Moonlight, not as the agent, but as a man with a new name, a new face, and a target that no one outside the top floor could even guess.

He had memorized every routine, every rotation, every minor security protocol. Yet, nothing could prepare him for the palpable intensity in the building an energy that felt alive, aware.

Colin paused at the coffee station, scanning the faces around him. Employees moved with quiet efficiency, murmuring to one another, unaware of how closely some were being observed. He picked up a mug, pretending to sip, pretending to be just another cog in the machine.

Colin shook off the tension from the hallway encounter and tried to focus on blending in. His first day meant observing, noting, and subtly testing the waters—but without leaving a trace that could hint he wasn't just a new recruit.

He walked toward the office wing where employees clustered in small groups, chatting over papers and coffee. He picked a random employee at a desk, a woman typing rapidly, her headphones in, completely unaware of the world.

Colin: "Hi… uh, I'm Colin, first day here. Mind if I ask… how's it like working on this floor?"

The woman blinked, tugged out her earbuds, and smiled politely.

Employee 1: "Oh! First day? You'll see. It's… intense. We handle a lot of confidential projects, and the boss expects you to keep up. But don't worry, they're… fair. Mostly."

Colin nodded, but his mind was elsewhere. "Fair" was a subjective term in this building. He remembered the last time he'd dealt with a man no hesitation, no mercy. That man had killed people, yet Colin had done what had to be done to make the world safer.

Flashback: His hands had gripped the steel cuffs tightly; the man had laughed as if mocking him, thinking he was untouchable. Colin hadn't spoken. He hadn't hesitated. The verdict had been in his eyes before the words were even formed.he said to a man with his deep voice you have killed so many innocent people i know how to deal with people like you .vincent wasa standing in his balck suit and tie hair back perfect with his deep eyes and blood on his hand .

He shook the memory away. This wasn't that mission. Yet.he see his hands empty cool then

Colin continued walking, trying to appear casual. Another employee, a young man carrying a stack of files, almost bumped into him.

Colin: "Hey, careful there…"

Employee 2:smirking "Relax, new guy. First day jitters? Don't let the place scare you. People here talk big, but it's all routine once you get the rhythm."

Colin smiled weakly, all while scanning subtle details the employee's ID badge, the files he carried, the subtle ways people avoided the top floor. He filed it all in his memory.

Internal monologue:These people… they don't know it, but the storm walks among them. One wrong move and everything could collapse. I have to remember the mission. Focus. Blend in. Don't get caught.

He bumped into a water cooler, spilling a few drops, and cursed under his breath. The employees nearby glanced at him, confused, but Colin simply smiled awkwardly. Foolish. Clumsy. That was his cover.

By lunch, Colin had already mapped several employees' routines, noting those who seemed suspiciously observant. Yet with every casual conversation, he felt a flash of the old Vincent the man who could coldly calculate, who had no mercy for murderers.

Internal monologue:If this were a target, I wouldn't hesitate. No second chance, no warning. Just precision. But not here. Not now. Keep the mask. Colin. Fool. First day, Colin. Fool.

As he returned to his desk, a soft click made him freeze. The elevator doors slid open, and out stepped a woman tall, commanding, flawless. Morgana Vale.

Colin's stomach tightened. She didn't even look at him. And yet he swore he felt her presence measuring him, weighing him, knowing more than any normal employee should.

Internal monologue:She's watching. Always watching. And I have no idea what she sees in me. Good. Let her think I'm nothing. Let her think I'm just a fool

he then think its a whole damn big building with so many people came and go how am i going to capture ahhhhhhh .

the day was tiring he wanted to go home

Colin pushed open the door to his apartment, a forced smile plastered across his face. The air was thick with the faint scent of burnt toast and lingering worry. His parents sat at the kitchen table, both .

vincent said ahh mom and dad what are you doing just tell me before coming into my apartment they said we wanted to surprise you

we know its your first day at vale building finally son you grown up and had a proper job

His mother, her hand resting on the edge of her mug, looked up slowly.

smiling faintly, trying to mask the weight of the world in his chest "I know, Mom. I know. But this… this is my job "

His father nodded, his face tight, protective.

Dad: "Just… be careful, son. That's all. Remember who you are, and don't lose yourself to ''

Colin's smile faltered for a split second. He wanted to tell them everything the darkness he faced, the lives he'd ended, the truth about Blackshadow but he couldn't. Not yet. Not ever. He just nodded, tucking the words away.

Meanwhile, across the city, Morgana Vale returned to her own house. Midnight wrapped around her like a cloak, but it did little to calm the storm that waited inside.

Her mother, Salena, and stepfather, her uncle, were both in the foyer, their faces twisted with ruthless expectation.

Salena: "Morgana… you think you can just ignore what's yours? What your father left behind is not for you to hoard. Give it to us, or else ''

Morgana:coldly, moving past them without hesitation "Or else what? You've always underestimated me. If this weren't my father's house, I would live anywhere else and never look back."

Her uncle growled, stepping forward, but Morgana didn't flinch. She slid past them, each step echoing her confidence and contempt, and climbed the stairs to her room.

Internal monologue:If this wasn't my father's house… maybe I would just walk away. But it is, and I will not lose it. Not to them. Not to anyone.

She threw herself on the bed, staring at the ceiling, exhausted but unable to rest. Sleep felt impossible. Every memory, every betrayal, every strategy she had woven over the past years replayed in her mind.

Morgana:whispering to herself "Tomorrow… the judge comes. File in hand. Everything my father left… everything I deserve. And if anyone thinks they can take it, they'll learn exactly who I am."

The morning light cut softly through the blinds in Vincent's apartment. Colin ,Vincent in this world sat at the table, spoon hovering over untouched cereal. His parents, calm but anxious, watched him quietly.

vincent: "Mom, Dad… please, just eat something. I'll handle work today. I promise everything's fine."

His father gave a faint nod, placing a hand on vincent shoulder.

Dad: "We trust you… just promise me one thing come back safe every day. That's all we ask."

Colin's smile was thin but genuine. No one could know the truth that in a matter of hours, he would step into a building full of secrets, chaos, and danger beyond imagination.

Meanwhile, Morgana Vale returned to her own fortress of turmoil. Her mother, Salena, was pacing, hands wringing, voice rising in panic.

Salena: "Morgana! This house, the company, your father's estate everything! How can this be left to you? I am your mother! The judge will never "

Morgana:cutting her off, voice sharp "Salena, enough. Everything left to me… is my responsibility. You have no say. And your panic won't change that."

Her mind flashed briefly to her father's final moments in the hospital, the harsh scent of antiseptic, the beeping machines, the words he barely whispered: "I trusted you…"

Morgana:whispering, almost to herself "Overall… you are my mother. That's why I bought you a house. I gave you what you need. But nothing more. I am done arguing."

Salena faltered, her mouth opening in shock.

Salena: "Y-you… you did what?"

Morgana:turning to leave the room, stepping with authority "Yes. That is done. I have bigger things to handle."

In her private office, Morgana's most loyal operative waited, holding a fresh case file. The quiet click of the door behind her signaled her arrival.

Loyal Operative: "Company is running smoothly, Madam. But there is a new threat. One you should know about."

Morgana raised an eyebrow, crossing the room with calculated poise.

Morgana: "Go on."

Loyal Operative: "His name is Nolen. Not from our city… he's from Russia. His record is extensive murders, organized crime, manipulation of law enforcement. Yet he's never been arrested. Not a single case tied him to prison."

Morgana's lips curved into a subtle, dangerous smile.

Morgana: "I want everything. Every crime, every associate, every slip-up. Compile it. And double-check: if the police missed him, I will not. I need to know how he moved undetected… and why."

Loyal Operative: "Yes, Madam. I'll have the dossier ready by tonight."

Morgana:leaning back, her mind already racing "Good. Let the game begin."

Meanwhile, across town, in the same city, Morgana's loyal operative handled problem: Nolen, the Russian mafia mastermind now operating in their country.

A man with broad shoulders and a stern expression sat in the office, papers scattered in front of him.

Morgana: "So… Nolen. He doesn't speak English?"

Operative:shaking his head "No, Madam. He thinks he can operate freely here."

Morgana:smirking "He underestimates me."btw i know russian so it will go smooth

Morgana : "I know exactly how to handle you. Don't worry. I've done my homework. You won't find an opening."

Operative:nodding "I'll start cooperation talks. Also, the family connections they know who he is. Should we proceed carefully?"

Morgana: "Carefully? No. Strategically. Gather every detail. Who his allies are, who he trusts… every weakness."

Back at Vale Corp, Colin made his way through the floors, notebook in hand, observing everything as if he were just another new employee.

In the lobby, someone approached Ella. She had just returned from her trip abroad, her luggage in hand.

Ella:breathless, speaking to the assistant "I'm back… Morgana said to check in with you while she's away."

Assistant: "Yes, Miss Ella. Welcome back. You'll be helping as usual coordinating all operations while Morgana is unavailable."

Ella glanced around, her eyes landing momentarily on Colin, though she didn't recognize him yet.

Ella (thinking):Who is that new guy? He seems… familiar somehow…

Colin ,Vincent settled at his desk, pretending to sort through forms while his mind raced. His first assignment was simple: observe, note anomalies, and subtly gather intelligence. But his instincts screamed at him this building was not just a corporate office. It had layers, shadows, and secrets he had yet to uncover.

Colin's mind:Every movement, every whisper, every face… something's off. And Blackshadow… she's here somewhere.

He watched employees move like clockwork. Ella coordinated seamlessly with assistants and other staff, her voice calm, precise, like someone who knew the machinery of the company better than anyone else. Colin could tell she wasn't just a helper; she was the backbone when Morgana was absent.

Meanwhile, back at Morgana's private office, she was reviewing the dossier on Nolen.

Morgana:quietly, to herself "A Russian killer, a master manipulator… let's see how far he thinks he can go. He's about to find out… you can't escape me in my city."

Her operative knocked lightly.

Operative: "Madam, all preliminary cooperation arrangements are ready. Nolen doesn't suspect a thing. He believes he's controlling the negotiation."

Morgana:smile sharp as a blade "Good. Let him think he has the upper hand. By the time he realizes, it'll be too late."

Cut back to Colin as he moves through the office floor, notebook in hand, ears tuned for any hint of anomaly. He notices a certain confidence in the staff, a rhythm that doesn't match a normal company. Something is being hidden and he's here to find out.

At the same time, Ella is already solving small logistical issues, handling schedules, emails, and instructions like a seasoned second-in-command. She glances at the new employee briefly, then shakes her head and returns to her work.

back at the room where morgana held a meeting with nolen ,

The conference room was bathed in the sterile glow of overhead lights. Papers were scattered across the table, pens tapping, translators murmuring softly. Morgana Vale sat at the head of the table, calm as a pond, while the Russian mafia Nolen shifted nervously across from her.

Nolen (Russian):"Мы готовы подписать контракт. Но условия должны быть такими, как я сказал.""We are ready to sign the contract. But the terms must be exactly as I said."

Morgana's lips curved into a slow, almost predatory smile. She responded in flawless Russian.

Morgana (Russian):"Конечно, мы согласны. Всё будет по плану.""Of course, we agree. Everything will go according to plan."

The translators nodded, scribbling notes. Nolen, thinking he held the power, barely noticed the subtle signals Morgana's team exchanged behind him.

From across the city, Vincent disguised as Colin —watched the live feed from a mobile device, his team whispering over encrypted comms.

Team via mobile: "Blackshadow will moving. Nolen is dangerous police can't touch him. Keep your eyes on him, but let Blackshadow handle the extraction."

Colin's grip tightened on the phone. Blackshadow… she's here, she's watching him…

Meanwhile, Morgana, perfectly composed, leaned back in her chair, resting one hand on the table, her eyes calm but sharp. To the outsiders, she was just a CEO negotiating a merger with a foreign partner. To those who knew better, every word, every gesture, every sip of coffee was a trap waiting to snap.

Morgana (English, softly): "Let's proceed. There's nothing to fear."

The mafia boss, Nolen, adjusted his tie, glancing around the room, unaware that one misstep one glance too far would seal his fate. Even a minor mistake in his empire would have deadly consequences; firing a single employee recklessly was all it took to attract Morgana's attention.

She signaled subtly to her operative behind him. In moments, the carefully laid plan would spring, and Nolen would realize he had been trapped, right under the noses of his supposed allies.

Vincent could feel it too, through the encrypted feed: the subtle choreography of control. Blackshadow would strike soon. He just had to be ready to follow the trail and Morgana… she already knew the game had begun.

And in that quiet, deadly calm, Morgana's smile widened. She didn't flinch, she didn't panic. To the world, she was just a CEO closing a deal.
