Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

I looked around my surrounding and it could be compared to the Royal Pack. It was vast but it was quiet. Too quiet.

"Follow me" the guard sounded angry.

I guess he hates me, everyone hates me. It didn't bother me but as I was in unfamiliar territory I didn't know how to feel. The guard led me through a wide corridor, the walls very high. I admired the house as we moved further.

I never got the chance to admire the Royal pack before. I felt eyes on me as I walked. I could hear whispers as I passed. Others didn't bother to hide the way they looked at me, curiosity sharpened with disgust. I kept my eyes on the floor to make myself smaller.

I could imagine what they whispered about. A human in their home. Who was I and what am I doing there? I wondered if the Alpha will tell them who I really was. I climbed a fleet of stairs and we stopped in front of a door.

"This will be your room" he said flatly.

"Thank you" I smiled but the look he gave me made my smile vanish.

"What of Alpha Hades?" His expression didn't change.

"You'll be informed if he wants to see you"

"I..." he turned and walked away. The sound of his boots fading slowly. I let out a breath and opened the door.

The room wasn't like the servants quarters I'd known all my life. It was clean and there was a huge bed in the middle of the room. There was a dressing table with mirror, there was also a small fire in the hearth.

This was more than I ever imagined. It was comfort and luxury but to what end? I didn't know anyone here, I don't even know why I was brought here in the first place and.....Lina. She would be worried about me. She might think something bad had happened to me. I didn't even pack my things....its not like I had much though but I still had things to take.

I sank onto the bed, the mattress soft beneath my bruised body. For a while, I had forgotten about the bruises on my body. I had other things to worry about. The scent of food filled my nose, I realized I was hungry. I hadn't had time to think about my stomach. I didn't even have the courage to ask for food.

I curled into the bed, the wolves fury still echoing in my head. The memory of Hades' voice, low and dangerous.

Mine.

Why me? Why did their goddess have to choose me for someone everyone feared. I am not even beautiful neither am I strong. I pressed my palms to my eyes, trying to steady my breathing. I wanted to wake up in the servants quarters, sore and hungry, and this night forgotten like it was just a dream, then the world would make sense.

Yes, that's what I would do. The fire in the room had gone low now, I closed my eyes and drifted off.

When I woke up, the light spilling through the window shone on my face and I jerked up. I panicked because I was late and Andrea was going to scold me or give me an extra work.

I stood up looking for a bucket and rag and then I remembered I was no longer in the Royal pack. I froze mid-step, so it was real. I thought I would sleep and wake up and last night never happened.

"Ahhhhh" I screamed out.

I felt like I was going to run mad soon. An idea popped into my head. I could run away from here, the Alpha won't bother looking for me because I am insignificant and he doesn't have any use for me. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.

Was I supposed to answer or ignore? Before I could pick a side, it opened and a small woman stepped inside, her frame delicate, her expression kind. She reminded me of Lina.

"Good morning" she said, her voice quiet but clear. "I'm Carina. I'll be attending to you. I'm here to take the dirty linens"

"Attending to me?" I asked in shock.

"Yes, it's anything wrong?" She raised a brow

"N-no, no"

"You are to prepare for breakfast, I'll get you something to change into and you'll remain in this wing till further notice"

"Am I.....a prisoner?" I tried to keep my voice steady. She hesitated, her hands clutching the linen she folded.

"No, you are not. You are.....the Alpha's mate. That means you are under his protection"

"That's not an answer" I whispered. She met my eyes then, something in her gaze.

"No one would harm you here. You must understand, we've never had a human live amongst us before. It will take time for them....to accept it" I looked down at my trembling hands.

"I don't even understand it myself" I whispered.

The Alpha's mate. Will I be treated differently because I'm the Alpha's mate? Carina was the first person I'm seeing that didn't look disgusted with me.

"Are you human?" The question left my mouth before I could think.

"No. I am an omega" I nodded. At the Royal pack even omegas were mean to us.

"Sorry if I'm bothering you but can I ask a question?"

"You're not bothering me, Luna. I'm here for anything you need to know"

I felt weird as she called me Luna. This was a mistake.

"My name is Iris. Please call me Iris"

"I can't do that, we address everyone according to their ranks here and you are the Alpha's equal. I'll be punished if I'm heard calling you by your name"

"I insist please" I pleaded with my eyes. She nodded.

"I'll call you that when we are alone" I gave her a weak smile.

"Go freshen up now" she said softly. "I'll bring food soon. You had a long journey last night. I'm sure you must be very hungry"

When she left, the silence crept back in, heavy as ever. I didn't know what my place in this world was anymore. I wasn't a human slave anymore but I wasn't free. I wasn't a wolf but I was tied to one by something I didn't understand or want.
