Chapter 10 - A Taboo

A/N: I need to clarify some things. First, this isn't a translated story like my other published works, so don't ask for raw or MTL; you won't find this anywhere.

Second, this isn't AI but I admit that I did use it to assist with grammar errors, but apparently, it backfired as some noticed an inconsistency in the story that even I, the writer, hadn't noticed.

I'll probably just stick with grammarly for now. If you notice mistakes or inconsistencies with the story feel free to tell me.

P.S - Limme rant a bit, okay I couldn't help but notice the obsession of chinese authors describing their OC's as extremely handsome, the most handsome man they've ever seen according to the characters, you see…I'M FUCKING TIRED OF IT LIKE THE FUCK DUDE! ARE YOU ARE THAT INSECURE, THAT YOUR SELF-INSERT ISN'T GOOD LOOKING?! I CAN UNDERSTAND BEING HANDSOME, BUT DESCRIBING THEM AS THE MOST HANDSOME MAN THEY EVER MET IS A LOAD OF CRAP! EVERYONE'S SENSE OF BEAUTY IS DIFFERENT! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR EVERY CHARACTER TO SEE YOUR FUCKING SELF-INSERT AS THE MOST HANDSOME MAN IN EXISTENCE LIKE WTF THIS IS NOT A DICK MEASURING CONTEST! FOR FUCK SAKE JUST SAY THAT HE'S HANDSOME AND THAT'S IT AND FOCUS ON HIS PERSONALITY AND ACTION RATHER THAN HIS APPEARANCE!

IT'S WORSE IF IT'S A HAREM BECAUSE YOU KNOW THE FEELINGS OF OTHER CHAPTERS ARE JUST SKIN DEEP! THERE'S NO SINCERITY IN THAT! ALL THOSE FEMALE CHARACTERS WHO FEEL FOR HIS LOOKS WILL LOOK SHALLOW IN MY EYES!

I SWEAR IF THE SENTENCE THE MOST HANDSOME MAN THEY EVER SEEN IS PLASTERED IN THE FIRST CHAPTER MY WILL TO READ THE STORY IS REDUCED BY HALF!

BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THEM HAVE A PREDICTABLE PLOT!

Okay, maybe it's just me but it's really annoying. I just want to let it out.

In the blink of an eye, decades had passed and their daughter was increasingly getting old, her wrinkles were now visible, in comparison to her youthful face before, it was vastly different.

Seeing her like this, broke the hearts of the two immortals, it was a painful realization that their daughter was getting closer to her end.

In comparison, her disciple still looks the same, which isn't a surprise since she's a pure-blooded elf.

Flamme noticed how her parents were looking at her with that kind of look, to which she told them. "Don't look at me like that, I'm not going to die, at least not this year."

It was said in a rather humorous tone, but that doesn't change the message behind it, it pierced through their hearts, as both of them have been trying to ignore the fact that their daughter's parting is getting closer.

Because of Fafnir's presence in this world, the trajectory of what was supposed to happen originally changed drastically, for example Flamme never left the temple and Frieren's relationship with Serie was different in comparison to the original love-hate relationship between the two.

Frieren treats Serie as her grandmaster, while Serie treats her like a granddaughter, indulging her in whatever she likes, even if she disagrees with some of them.

Like Flamme, Frieren likes magic purely out of interest and doesn't really apply them in a war perspective as she is a mage of peace.

Serie was a mage born for war, and couldn't really imagine a world where war ends.

But despite the difference in ideology, both surprisingly get along as their respective anchors reel them together.

That's why, Serie teaches her folk magics that she came across in her long life, even if the majority of them are frankly useless but since she asked she indulges her with it.

Making her have unlimited access to whatever magic Serie has.

"I really don't understand why you are so fascinated with these useless magic spells." Serie bluntly stated to her grand disciple.

Frieren however, didn't look back and continued to look at the scroll that contained the folk magic that she asked for, and replied. "Because it's fun and interesting, aren't you getting tired of asking the same question a hundred times now? I thought you'd know what my answer would be by now."

"It's simply incomprehensible to me, how both of you master and disciple loved learning spells like this, what's so good about making a coffee hot when it's cold? I don't see any use for this spell. I would rather make a new one, maybe use your time to learn useful offensive spells." Serie once again started lecturing her ways to her grandkid, like an old fellow teaching their descendants what is right in their own perspective.

Frieren ignored it, she had learned by now that this wasn't going to end until she changed her view toward magic.

And after a half hour of imparting her 'knowledge' she only stopped when Fafnir arrived and Frieren's cute long ears perked up as she heard the familiar footsteps.

"Grandfather! Is it time for our lessons?" Unlike with her grandmaster, she much prefers her time learning with Fafnir, as he doesn't force her to change her ideology, interest, and hobby, not to mention learning runes was way more interesting than traditional magic.

Fafnir gave her that grandfatherly smile, but also not forgetting to put on a smug face at Serie, who looked quite annoyed at the difference in Frieren's attitude compared to hers.

While Frieren calls her 'Grandmaster' most of the time and calls her Grandma only if she needed something from her which has a 100% rate of being successful despite knowing she's being manipulated to do what Frieren asks for, but she was willing that's the difference, she just likes what she hears.

And Fafnir, who doesn't need to do any of that, just to make Frieren call him Grandpa, as it was her default prompt toward him.

Serie doesn't know how he does this 'trick' but she was jealous, and would rather die than admit it openly.

"Tsk, take her. I'm sure she'll be bored sooner or later with those runes or whatever it is."

If she could only hear herself, which Fafnir knew that she didn't because of the sheer bitterness and jealousy from those words, that even a deaf person would notice was so obvious to anyone other than herself.

Fafnir really wanted to expose her right here, but decided not to because it's cute for her to act like this, not to mention a rare event for him to see.

He wouldn't want to end his entertainment like that, so he just left with Frieren toward his workshop.

But before walking out of the hall, he thought to himself. 'Isn't she the one who was very excited about my runes before? Now she's trying to act like my runes are trash compared to her magic.'

Letting out a chuckle, he led Frieren out of the temple's hall.

Frieren was learning fast, at least in his experience. To be fair he doesn't have any standard of fast or slow learning, but from his experience, her learning speed was almost as fast as hers.

But that wasn't a fair comparison either as most of his knowledge of runes was innate. Like it's been there all the time, while he was just trying to relearn it.

He doesn't know if it was the knowledge of the original Fafnir or if it's because he's a dragon.

Honestly, he didn't bother going deeper into that issue as to him, runes were an indisputable tool for his survival from another world.

If it weren't for runes, who knows what would happen?

But one thing is for sure, it is extremely useful and part of the reason why he managed to create dimensional travel as early as a few decades ago.

Sure world travel already exists, but this was completely different from others' own 'dimensional' travel, as not only is it limited to their own universe, but they can only travel through a known world, or at least a planet anchored through a specific spell.

They never really bothered to anchor a new planet, because there's an incident where they almost got wiped out thanks to these otherworldly invaders.

So they never tried again, afraid to repeat this 'mistake' and only allowing safe worlds to travel in, which are the so-called known worlds.

Only fools or madmen, who have the balls to do so, would resort to things as he did.

But even so, he went to another step. Not just traveling to another world in the same universe, but in a completely different one.

What he did was essentially taboo, it was an unspoken rule back in the previous world.

If the dragons from the previous world were to find out about this, there's no doubt all dragons from the three factions would imprison him for all eternity and that was the best case, worst case they would hang his head somewhere.

But he couldn't care less about it, because they're way too far from his location, not to mention there's no anchor for this universe, looking for him is like looking for a tiny needle in the sea of the universe.

Not to mention he wasn't planning on coming back either, and if he did. He wasn't stupid enough to go back without sufficient strength because by now the factions of the previous world surely have noticed the potent dimensional magic that he used to travel here.

Coming back is equivalent to giving his head willingly to those factions.

Either way, he was content with his life, even if his coming into this world was purely by coincidence and originally didn't have any interest in staying for decades, but fate has a sense of humor.

What he originally thought was a slight detour to his way of finding his earth, not the 'earth' from the previous world.

Who would have thought he would get a family here, if it wasn't for this he would have traveled to another dimension years ago.

After all, he already has sufficient charge for another world detour.
